Hillary: Pledged Delegates "Just Like" Supers — They Can Switch

During an interview with the Philadelphia Daily News editorial board, Hillary Clinton again pitched the idea that she can close the gap in the pledged delegate count — by pointing out that pledged delegates can always switch their votes.

"And also remember that pledged delegates in most states are not pledged," said Clinton. "You know, there is no requirement that anybody vote for anybody. They’re just like super-delegates."

Hillary previously hinted at such a strategy about two weeks ago, while over a month ago the campaign had to deny reports that they would attempt such a thing.

desperation is a stinky perfume

I recall the Obama followers being so tickled every time Barack picked up extra delegates despite losing the popular vote in say Texas and Nevada.

user-pic

A bit disingenuous of you there.

Especially since it was the rules that allowed Obama those delgates.

No one is disagreeing with Clinton - she is right about the rules and the delegates are indeed free agents.

But that is the line a loser takes when the current count is not in their favor.

user-pic

She just makes herself look silly by making this extremely disingenuous argument personally and expressly.

These are people who liked Obama so much that they ran to be a pledged delegate, and the Obama campaign vets these folks in most cases, so the numbers that are all of a sudden going to flip to Hillary is going to be diminishingly low.

Maybe I'm starting to see this for what it is and it's astonishingly irritating. I kept trying and trying to look past it, but without anybody coming forward (except Bill Richardson) and so many people lining the fance like it's a trainwreck, this keeps dragging on.

She's honestly going to ride this thing out to the convention, isn't she?

Desperation. And she wears it so well.

Why doesn't she just say she'll run as an Independent and hand McCain the presidency. It would be more efficient than slowly tearing apart the party.

The Dems could make it clear to her that if she doesn't win this for herself, but instead just sets Obama up to lose, then she should not be the nominee.

Unless she can set up a good case for herself going forward, it should be Obama, or, if something happens that causes him to implode or trip down the stairs, it should be Gore or some other third party.

We just can't have her trying to tear him down all the way 'till June, thinking she'll win this thing.

I'm surprised that Hillary doesn't understand that these kinds of tactics just make her look desperate. They are admissions that she's losing and that she cannot win. Plus the idea that the pledged delegates should ignore the will of the people smacks of entitlement and the drive for power at any cost. I'm sorry, but it's over...the Wright "controversy" didn't stop Obama (and even gave him an historical moment), and with Florida and Michigan out, there is no way for her to overcome him in popular votes, states one, or pledged delegates. The sooner she drops out and endorses him, the better for the Party and the country.

To me, these comments make it look like she would rather sacrifice the Democratic party for her own ambition than let someone else win.

In other words, she does not care if the delegates do not want to represent the will of the voters and instead vote for her.

The non-stop train wreck that she refers to as her campaign needs to come to an end. Hopefully we will see the caboose hop the rails soon. Obama is winning, get over it.

It's incredible that she refuses to grasp:

1) how unlikely it would be for her to "unpledge" a pledged delegate, and/or

2) how utterly destructive it would be for the party if she somehow succeeded in doing so.

Desperation, maybe?

Ignorance is no excuse nor plausible.
Insanity,perhaps extreme disappointment?
Destructive is more to the point.

Have one hell of a time comprehending how someone at this level would make such statements to a major newspaper.

nice. it's not like those delegates were directly elected by the voters to represent the will and decision of those voters or anything, and are at least morally obliged to represent them fairly.

but if all of that pathetic "democracy" gets between me and a chance for the Presidency; it'll have to go.

Had enough?

the chances of this actually working are virtually nil, but what we REALLY have to ask ourselves is:

1) how can she think this would be acceptable?

and less importantly...

2) why doesn't her campaign understand how potentially politically dangerous for her this is among the Democratic electorate should the media start doing it's job and pick these comments up?

She's sick! She's absolutely sick! Someone needs to bring her down from wherever the hell she is and give her a dose of reality.

Meanwhile, the entire Democratic party is getting burned with her "do anything" to win politics. Something needs to end this.

Maybe so, but why would they want to? Why does she think they would switch sides to support her?

Why would they want to? Well a current poll shows Barack's unfavourability rating has risen to 52% now. (That's from 23% at the beginning of the year.) That's huge.
If she pulls out a massive win in PA, which is likely, and then if she does very well in the remaining states (even N Carolina is looking like it might be dicey now) and if the delegates come to see the Wright factor as having made him unelectable, well then it's really very likely that many of the delegates would want to switch sides.
Did you see Joe Klein (on CNN) pointing out that if from now on the momentum grows for Hillary, and if Obama's ratings bottom, then it might go to the Convention where enough superdelegates might use the tactic of not voting in the first round forcing it to a second - where none of the delegates will be bound.

Basically it all hinges on whether or not Obama can come back and do well.

Look, I'm an Obama supporter - I dislike and don't respect Hillary - but I'm trying to look at the whole thing reasonably objectively. Why does everyone assume that the entire black community (as opposed to a small pocket of it) would be outraged if he doesn't get the nomination, if the circumstances were that it was patently obvious to everyone that he didn't have a hope of winning the general? Remember they only came over to him en masse from Hillary after Ohio when they saw that he could win over whites.

Bear in mind that part of Obama's huge success was that he was winning over Independents and some Republicans. If his relationship with Wright has ruined that, if all he has is blacks and some youtubers & latte liberals, then his electability argument is seriously damaged.

There's another factor in here too I suspect. I do believe that Obama is in a class apart from Hillary - he is a class act. I suspect that if Wright has damaged him irreparably, the polls show it conclusively and he does badly in the coming primaries, I think he'll withdraw. The man has true intellect and decency and cares about the Party which is more than you can say about the pathological liar he's up against. I'd bet good moola that he'll drop out in June if the Wrighting's on the wall.

Obama's negatives are not at 52%.

user-pic

No, he's right—I saw the same poll. Of course, in that poll it also had Clinton's negatives at 135%. I think the margin of error was about 30%, however, so her negatives might've only been 105%. ;)

Do you ever fear that we, the lowly obsessed political junkie, spends way more time paying attention to the race than many of the superdelegates?

After reading this claptrap, Hillary sure does.

Perhaps when her campaign previously denied they were going after pledged delegates they, um, misspoke. Yeah, that's the ticket. Misspoke.

I'm just curious what the hell can the superdelegates... oops, I'm sorry... the Automatic Delegates must be thinking? Do they really think she has a point? Really?

user-pic

Yes, and if enough of these pledged delegates switched over to Hillary, there would be rainbows, and unicorns, and fairies, and black voters would just overlook how she elbowed the winner out of the way and would come back to vote for the wife of the first "black" president.

And also, monkeys would fly out of her ass.

As unlikely as it is that under any scenario Hillary can win the nomination, it's even more unlikely that she could win the general if a significant portion of African Americans stay home on election day. I wonder what ludicrous arguments she plans to present to them to convince them to support her if and when she succeeds at manipulating the system sufficiently to push the guy who they supported and who won the nomination thanks to their support before she flipped them off by gaming the system to knock him out. These arguments will no doubt be even more detached from reality. Not to mention fruitless.

You have to wonder about the motives and basic grasp on reality of anyone who would sabotage the needs of an entire nation simply to safisy her own personal desire to stay in the spotlight for just a few more months when there's zero chance of ultimate victory.

user-pic

What you are really saying is that after Team America (fuck yeah) finishes invading the Iraquistan Primary, they will shower us with flowers?

Where have I heard that before?

Maybe she could engineer a made-for-television event where her supporters tear down some statue of Obama?

We could call it the Snark and Bawl tactic

Apparently, she still can't *#%*ing believe this young *#%* is taking away her title. I can't imagine what else would explain her behavior.

[Sigh]...

WHEN are the 'party elders' going to step in and make her realize it's OVER and that she has to pack it in?

Well this seems to suggest soon.

http://www.lvrj.com/news/16948521.html

user-pic

That's pretty interesting. But I'll believe it when I see it.

if the outcome of this primary hinges on Harry Reid standing up to someone with a forceful personality...

I don't think this statement is actually about the pledged delegates at all, but rather intended to make massive lobbying of the super-delegates more palatable.

In effect, she's trying to make super and pledged delegates fully fungible and this lobbying as part of the expected process. Why should she drop out? NO delegates have made their choice yet, the delegate count is really 0-0 etc etc.

user-pic

And yet CNN's Polotical ticker has the "Blue Dress" story as their top.

No mention of the misstatement or the delegate headhunting.

Obaba's vacation is in the top 10 though. And Wright is still there.

That ruthless press corp can't leave her alone.

I'd been toying with the notion that she is posturing to run again four years from now in the event of a McCain win come Nov.. But even that doesn't make sense. Who would vote for her when she is so overwhelmingly responsible for the Obama defeat?

That was my last attempt to make any sense of her actions. Now all I can do is draw Lady Macbeth parallels.

user-pic

I've been promoting that theory for over a month now. There is no other logical explanation. She can't legitimately win the nomination and there is no way she would want to run in november if she is able to steal the nomination. The party would be in shambles and she would get hammered. Also, mccain would easily beat her with his cross-party appeal in any event. She is trying to set up an obama loss and then she can come to the "rescue" in 2012. She can be the rescuer of the party in her mind.

On people remembering, people have very short memories. People really have rewritten the drama and disfunction of the clintons first two terms in office. They ran a republican administration to stay in power and decimated the democratic party in the process. People have forgotten all that.

The clintons current strategy is tear obama down and help mccain win in November. She can't wait until 2016 because then the age thing starts to come into play. She'll be 70 in 2016.

Of course they think it will work and of course they think everyone will be over being mad at her by 2012. a) they're at that stage of the game where they've hunkered down in the bunker and started believing their own propaganda and, b) Reagan, 1976. Look it up.

At this point I am livid. We are losing to McCain, how bad is that?! If the DNC, her fellows Democrats, Edwards and Gore do not tell her to stop, she will give us McCain. What kind of legacy is that? Gore and Edwards should endorce Obama right now. Howard Dean should get HRC out, whatever it takes, for the greater good of the country. I appreciate all she has done and been through, but it is over.

user-pic

MSNBC's political section is ALL Clinton above the fold, all gushing headlines.

user-pic

Why should she drop out?

Because she has zero chance of winning the general. No democrat is going to the white house without the support of black voters, and she can't win the nomination without giving them all the finger. Which makes them unlikely to turn out to vote for her on the longshot chance that she "wins" the nomination.

That's why.

user-pic

Is it okay to just go ahead and say now that she's out of her #%%@! mind?

Someone at Kos referred to Hillary's Bosnia story as "WhopperGate", and they linked to this picture.

Now that is funny!

I hope the tags are right, new to that here.

I will say this (warning to all Obama supporters, of which I am definitely one).

Ask people you know at work who is winning this race. I do and I am surprised how many people have no clue WHATSOEVER what is going on in this race.

Most people have no concept of the state of the race and they think that this thing is tied.
The Clinton campaign realizes this and that is one of the ways they feel they can go forward. They will use Pennsylvania as further proof that they are turning this around, and most people who pay very little attention will agree.

This race is over, but it isn't. It's her only hope. Today's news cycle won't do any good for her. This Tuzla story has drowned out her economic speech, which was absolutely ignored on the news shows tonight (didn't see network news, just the cable fare).

So if you are an Obama supporter, it was a good day. For Hillary not so much. But she still has the busy voter as an ally.

"Ask people you know at work who is winning this race. I do and I am surprised how many people have no clue WHATSOEVER what is going on in this race."

Gawd, if they let people where I work decide who would be president, we'd end up with an idiot for sure.

user-pic

Like in '00 and '04? Just sayin'…

Pledged delegates can switch. One of the Hillary supporters from our precinct caucus switched to Obama at the county assembly.

If I were Hillary I wouldn't remind the pledged delegates that they can switch to Obama if they so choose.

Hillary is right about the delegates and once they discover that we have all been SWIFTBOATED by the Republicans into voting for Obama, who would get beat by McCain big time, they will vote for Hillary, who can beat McCain and that is why the Republican press has been so hard on her. We have all been fooled into thinking Obama was more than an EST trained speaker. Check out all the Republicans that have donated to his campaign. We have been SWIFTBOATED folks and Hillary knows that and that is why she is staying in the race.

EST. Werner Erhard!!

That's a new one. You must be a west coaster. and a baby boomer as well.

Does that make Hillary Dale Carnegie?

…SWIFTBOATED… …SWIFTBOATED…

<Princess Bride>You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.</Princess Bride>

user-pic

You are right on time!

Swiftboated by the Republicans into thinking Obama's a great guy?

My head is spinning.

user-pic

Again, if you have some links to this Republicans Fund Obama" story, I'm very interested in reading up on it.

Hey Pennsylvania, you have exactly four weeks to get a clue. She's a joke. Vote Obama if only to stop this madness.

There is proof that they actually are poaching delegates:

http://ruralvotes.com/thefield/?p=935
Fear, Loathing & Delegate Poaching in Texas

Have you stopped to consider that some Republicans really want to vote for Obama because they believe he'd be a good president?

Has Hillary lost her ability to separate fantasy from reality? Or does she know that the scenario she is laying out is unlikely to happen, but she is determined to damage Obama as much as she can, so that he loses in the fall and she can run again in 2012?

In a way, I hope it's the former. At least that could be forgiven.

What she is getting close to becoming, is Lady Macbeth. Her sureness, that it is "her turn", that no one would be a better president than she, that she "deserves" this at all costs, even to the point of "murdering" her rival and the party, is the stuff of Shakespeare, or perhaps Greek tragedy.

In the Persians, by Aeschylus, King Xerxes invades ancient Greece by building a bridge across the Hellespont. After defeating Xerxes, the Greeks then use the bridge to invade Persia. Rather than ending up victorious, as Hillary imagines, she may be building a bridge for her enemies (The Republicans) to take the WH with, in the fall.

She has already opened the door to using race and Obama's, Muslim sounding name as weapons against him. If she persists in her attempts to peel off delegates, she will damage the party beyond repair.

If the Republicans, bring out the Monica and other scandal guns in the fall, and Hillary loses, she could very well bring down a Democratic Senator or two and some House members as well.

That Hillary has a tendency towards hubristic pride, is nothing new. That her ambition is so vaulting, as to be this destructive, is something of a shocker.

Is she sure she wants to go there?

She's the one that lost delegates to Obama at the Iowa State Convention.

She ended up losing one national delegate to Obama.

Now it's okay to turn Judas, as long as you're a delegate.

Exactly.

Pledged delegates are *pledged* ....

So, Hillary, when you *pledge* allegiance to the flag of the United States of America ...

Just wondering ...

user-pic

In her dreams.

The pledged delegates will vote for Hillary, the sky will open, the light will come down, Celestial choirs will be singing and everyone will know we should do the right thing and the world will be perfect.

..snigger.

Ummm ... pledged delegates sent by their local parties to vote the candidate they pledged to vote for ... are so easily swayed, in numbers large enough to turn the outcome?

At this late stage of the game, what could the opposition candidate offer that would be powerful enough to change a pledged candidate's mind ...

Errr ... on second thought ... ... ...

"Hey Pennsylvania... Vote Obama if only to stop this madness. "

WE ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

user-pic

PENN STATE!!!!!!!

Send the clintons packing, PLEASE!!!

I have so come to despise Hillary.

Every day I wish for a massive, horrible, train wreck of a scandal to be exposed about her and her husband.

I wish for something that makes the Eliot Spitzer scandal pale by comparison.

I wish for something so huge, so massive, so emabarrasing that she is forced not just from the presidential campaign but from her Senate seat.

I have just totally had it with her and her manipulative, lying, exaggerating, self-centered, egotistical ways.

She represents everything that is wrong with American politics today.

Reality just like fantasy they can switch!

user-pic

Many posters are shocked, shocked!, that Hillary would consider targeting "pledged" delegates to try to make up her tiny deficit against Obama. A question comes to mind: Did any of those expressing their dismay at this potential move to check to see whether what she is claiming (namely, that "pledged" delegates can switch their vote if they so choose) was true or not? If what she claims is true, then why would it be unseemly for her to try to sway the delegates to the national convention to reconsider? After all, it is not like anyone would be holding a gun to their heads! All they would have to do is to stick to their initial choice. Hillary entered this race to win and looked very strong but now finds herself on the verge of losing the nomination because the media was so biased against her that they gave Obama a pass while relentlessly pillorying Hillary, doing her great damage. However, look at what has happened since the media's critical lens, out of boredom perhaps, was finally trained on Obama:

On Monday, McCain is viewed favorably by 55% of voters nationwide and unfavorably by 42%. Obama’s reviews are 46% favorable and 52% unfavorable. For Clinton, those numbers are 42% favorable, 55% unfavorable (see recent daily results).

Obama's unfavorability rating has more than doubled compared to where it was on Super Tuesday! Had Obama had such numbers a month or two ago, do you think would have done as well as he did? Very unlikely. Hillary on the other hand, has managed to stay within only 100-150 delegates of Obama despite having had negatives that have been high throughout the primaries. That being the case, why shouldn't Hillary attempt to "even the score" by revisiting the delegates' impression now that Obama has finally been "humanized"?

The voters clearly voted for a candidate they went gaga over without knowing much about. Now that the hype and hysteria have passed and the "messiah" looks like a common mortals, why shouldn't the voters be given the opportunity to reassess their choice soberly? Could it perhaps be that it was with such a scenario in mind that the rule that "pledged" delegates can change their minds was made so flexible? It would seem that it was a wise provision to ensure that if a likely nominee turns out to be a potentially weak GE pick, the delegates would have the ability to avert disaster by picking someone else. It is Hillary's most likely path to the nomination and more power to her for seeing it and trying to exploit it. She did NOT make the rule...the party did, so chill out and let this thing play itself out to the end! One way or another, the Dems will have a nominee and it would be either a woman or a black man...a historic prospect either way.

user-pic

So if the delegate that represents YOUR VOTE suddenly went gaga over "the Messiah," you'd be OK with that?

It is just sad to watch how crazy Hillary has become. Does she really think that the pledge delegates will overturn the election? Does she really think the super delegates will overturn the election? If such happens, there will be a riot in Denver and she will have a real Bosnia situation on her hands.

What are the chances she runs as an Indie this fall?

I'm being serious.

Right now, I'll go with a 25% chance.

Let's cut to the chase. It's not about the Democratic party anymore. It's all about saving Clintonism. I am a cradle to grave Democrat who has voted for every nominee since McGovern, albeit sometimes more enthusiastically than others.
Now, I am being asked to vote for a candidate who -- if she seizes the nomination -- has destroyed the party that has been my political home for over 30 years? Sentator Cliton has shown herself to be a liar and an opportunist -- in her made quest to seize a poisoned chalice. She has neither the judgement nor the wit to be president.

It's time to shut down Hillaryland and move back to Realityland.

user-pic

How much more contempt for voters can she express?

"It doesn't matter how many more citizens voted for the guy - if we can steal it it's ours."

Now just wait for the Hillary camp and their zealot followers to accuse Obama of doing this.

I Misspoke

It was a treacherous night landing. Ice had formed on both of our wings, and as I looked out the port window, I could see it breaking into shards, flying off into the night sky with each near barrel roll of our C-50, highlighted by the flares shooting past on either side of the cabin, turning them into falling prisms of wildly careening light.

As the cabin lurched back and forth and the sounds of rocket fire percussed the urgent, faltering rhythm of our right engine, I unfastened my seat belt, and, finding my center of gravity, rose from my seat, moving past aides shock still in their chairs, arms locked like girders against their arm rests in terror, and walked up the center aisle to the pilot's cabin.

"How long to Kosovo"? I shouted over the screaming whine of the altimeter's alarm, marking our steep descent. The pilot turned, looked at me in shocked recognition--"How...how did you make it up here? No one has ever walked up here in these conditions before! How..."

"Never mind that!" I barked, with what I hoped was a not too stern forcefulness, combined with sufficient steel and empathy to create the appearance of a firm imperturbability. "Check the master FMC! Is it working or has it failed?"

The pilot, paused, as if in amazement at my readiness, and then himself awakening to crisis, looked to the Control Display Unit . "It's down! It's down!" he shouted. A bead of sweat began to form on his brow.

I knew what I had to do. "Get out of there!" I commanded, and pulled him from the seat, from where he crumbled to a fetal position on the floor behind me. Stepping over him, I took the chair behind the console.

"Check the Central Maintenance Computers and activate the NAV RAD for alternate radio tuning capability!" I shouted to the co-pilot. He, too, had broken down in tears, his head buried in his hands. I looked to his ID on the console. Another newbie.

Well, this was another one where I would have to go it alone.

Quickly, I tore the scarf from my neck and fashioned it into a crude lasso that could be used for EFIS/EICIS control. Catching the lever with my right hand, I activated the cabin loudspeaker with my left. I knew that the passengers had likely been gulled by the earlier soft patter of the pilot. "Brace yourself! Get ready! These aren't just words!" Then I pulled the lever back hard, sending us rocketing towards the runway.

"You'll never make it!" I knew that voice, and turned. Richardson! How did he trundle up to the cabin? "Out of here, Judas! And take that quivering beard with you!"

I could feel bolts straining against Pennsylvania steel as I pushed the '50 down, down, down to the ground below us. Suddenly, an explosion punctuated the sky--Hand held rocket fire at 3' o'clock!

I quickly performed the evasive maneuvers that I had learned for so long, and so well. My face became angry, then sad, then gentle, then intensely serious, then was finally rocked by a powerful squealing, an unnatural burst of laughter. That did it! The rocket exploded harmlessly behind us.

Now. Now it was time to take the stick and bring this shaking, careening flight, parts straining against themselves until nearly ready to burst, down to the ground. I put my arms to the twin arms of the FO-AP, set the APC, and with all of the strength remaining in me, began to push the levers down. Straining, I pushed harder. And harder. I could see the runway rising before us in the glare shield. I would have to find the remaining strength to bring it down.

Finally, as if a burst of superhuman might had been somehow delegated to me, I pushed the levers into locked position. I could hear Penn in the cabin shouting "We're landing...We're going down!" as I felt the rough shock of the landing gear snapping into place.

Sparks flew as we hit the runway, bullets ricocheting off of the cabin, one wheel touching pavement. I looked straight through the windshield--the militia, arms at the ready stood at the runway's end. The last obstacle.

I turned the craft hard, sending it hurtling sideways across the pavement. It swept the militia away in a single screaming motion that combined with the screaming that arose from the cabin, as we continued to move towards the small, makeshift terminal, where the dignitaries, negotiators, and heads of state awaited for my arrival.

I did not close my eyes. I did not let go of the wheel. I watched--as we ground to a halt just before the doors of the terminal.

I looked fore, at the dignitaries protecting themselves from the sniper fire that raged around them. I looked aft, at the passengers, shaken but safe.

We had arrived. All was good.

Just a moment...

Due to the discovery of a video of the above described occasion, I would like to make few small corrections. The flight was in fact actually a regularly scheduled chartered flight that was actually flown by the pilot and co-pilot--although the pilot did have a cold, and during the flight, I did at several times give serious attention to our flight conditions (notes indicate that I found it "a bit bumpy") I would also note that the dinner, Salmon with Creamed Potatoes, was undercooked, and was served with a Riesling that was unusually dry. It is also true that we were met not by a militia but by a girl's youth soccer team. However, it was necessary for me to dodge a soccer ball as team members demonstrated their often aggressive skills. No other shots were fired.

In short: I misspoke."

I read all the speculations about why Hillary Clinton and her campaign are behaving the way they are behaving. Most of the assumptions folks make relate to her ego and quest for power being bigger than her loyalty to a united Democratic Party.

Maybe the answer is far simpler. Maybe the Clinton's are tied into and loyal to the status quo power sharing at the seat of the national government, which sharing is achieved by collusion between the DLC and the Republicans, and which continued power sharing depends upon the 'elites' holding out against the 'masses'.

Maybe Hillary is staying in the race to specifically do her best to damage Obama. Maybe Hillary is carrying water for the special interests who abhor the idea of transparency, and to the very elitist insiders who personally benefit by continuing income disparities, continuing wars, continuing pretenses about being 'opposition' parties, and continuing divide and conquer electoral strategies.

Since the Reagan years, at which time I sat up and took notice, it surely seems that 'progressive' politics has really been a shell game in which 'the common good' has been passed around more or less rhetorically, the masses of citizens keep painfully losing ground, but, all the while, the huge benefits to and power of the elites gained and has held the mountaintop.

Bill and Hillary Clinton somehow made their way to that mountaintop perch financially. How did they achieve that and what do they owe to that elite insider club?

user-pic

errr, sorry for the sentence structure.
. Should read, 'the huge benefits to and power of the elites keep gaining and holding the mountaintop.'

I was an alternate delegate for Obama to the Jefferson County convention here in Colorado. The night before the convention I got a robo call with Hillary Clinton's cheerful voice thanking me for my support and reminding me to go to the county convention to support her. Other Obama delegates and alternatives reported getting the calls too. I found it incredibly slimy and incredibly insulting.

"a current poll shows Barack's unfavourability rating has risen to 52% now"

Could you provide a link to that poll? I found a similar one, with Obama having a 51% unfavorability rating, but that was from January 2nd, 2008.

user-pic

Rasmussen, which s*cks as a polling firm. I take there polls at the bottom of the list. Heavy, heavy republican/right-wing tilt in polling. If you believed their polls clinton would be the nominee now. Here is the link.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/election_20082/2008_presidential_election/daily_presidential_tracking_poll

Well, let's look at the bright side. Debating this new bizarre story at least might push that unfortunate Bosnian "I was under sniper fire" story off the top of the stack.

For now.

Seriously, though. How long are we to pretend that these two candidates, these two campaigns are essentially even?

They're not. One is winning, one is losing, and all the chocolate ice cream in the world won't hide that fact forever.

I wonder whether this tactic is primarily intended to prolong the race to the convention no matter what. I mean, if the pledged delegates have free will to do what they want on the convention floor, then what does it matter whether the superdelegates put Obama over the top after the last primary? 2024 would become meaningless before the convention if you can't count the pledged delegates as a given.

If the campaign doesn't acknowledge 2025 the moment that Obama gets there, she should be punished by her Senate colleagues by not giving her a single leadership position on any committee in the Senate. And Senate Majority Leader should be absolutely out of the question.

There's "exclusive video of Obama in St. Thomas" on CNN.com. Seems like they've got the free time to look into this pledged delegate business.

Oh wait, never mind. The new gov of New York just admitted he used to use cocaine and pot too. Cue media overkill. I've never seen a politician use the "kitchen sink" strategy on himself.

user-pic

CNN really is awful. I can't stand to watch it anymore. WTF. Maybe they could spend time doing a piece on clinton's faux experience. I wonder if in the clintons' tax records it will show that the clintons have a 20% stake in CNN.

By Barack Obama’s own admission, at the conclusion of his Iowa address, he noted, "we are not a collection of red states and blue states." He failed, however, to specifically identify the colors that should be assigned to the states. If anyone is to resolve this question, it is Wikipedia, the repository of all human knowledge, which makes clear that we are a nation of green, yellow, red, and pink states. It’s important of course that this study be conducted in a fair and nonarbitrary fashion, so I determined the color metric (yellow) by eliminating the states least frequently associated with submarines in Beatles songs. This yields a slight advantage to Hillary Clinton, 5 to 4.

Total number of Commonwealths

CLINTON: 1 (Massachusetts)

OBAMA: 1 (Virginia)

Here the race is neck and neck, but Clinton is expected to take Pennsylvania. As there are only four commonwealths total, it is virtually impossible for Obama to beat Clinton on the Commonwealth count. If Clinton beats Obama in Kentucky, his claim that he has won more states will be canceled out by her claim that she has won more Commonwealths.

Total number of "New" States

CLINTON: 4

OBAMA:0

Hilllary Clinton has won New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, and New York. By contrast, Obama has failed to win a single state with the word "New" in its name. Obama’s failure among self-proclaimed new states, raises serious questions about his supposed strength among young voters (new people) and his supposed message of change (new policies).

Average Highest Elevation

CLINTON: 6135 Feet

OBAMA: 6097 Feet

Frankly, I’m surprised that more attention hasn’t been drawn to this. Obama claims to want to elevate the level of discourse, but he has failed in states with the highest elevations. Clinton has won on Mount Whitney (California), Humphreys Peak (Arizona), Boundary Peak (Nevada), and Wheeler Peak (New Mexico). Perhaps more significantly, there are so few peaks left that despite the close margins, Obama has no hope of regaining the altitude vote. Clinton also leads among states with the highest average mean elevation: (Clinton: 1908.8 feet Obama: 1457.7 feet).

Average Official State Mixed Drink

CLINTON: Wine, Milk, Coffee, Cranberry Juice, Orange Juice, Tomato Juice

OBAMA: Kool-Aid, Beer, Conecuh Ridge Whiskey, Milk, Moxie, South Carolina Grown Tea

It’s a close call, but on balance, Clinton has the better tasting official state mixed drink. Here’s how this is tabulated: Most states have an official state beverage (Wikipedia State Beverage List). Using equal parts of each state beverage from each state that each candidate won, I was able to produce two mixed drinks. I don’t want to go into the judging details except to say that Obama’s combination of Whiskey and Kool-Aid left me questioning whether his coalition of voters can hold together beyond the late night taco bell run.

So what she is saying is that Obama can also WIDEN the gap between her when Cliton pledged delegates switch over to him?

Nice! Thanks Hill!

I wish the media would just say it for what it is, each delegate she uses to hijack the election and overturn the will of the people equals the disenfranchisement of over 10,000 for superdelegates, and anywhere from 4,000 to 12,000+ for pledged delegates, depending on state and turnout. This is her only path to the nomination, basically stuffing the ballots with 10,000 at a time, while at the same time whining about Florida and Michigan and the importance of every single vote. The hypocrisy is astounding, just as is the fact that NO ONE will point out the obvious. Here is my full take on it:

THIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS!! FOR HILLARY!!!

If someone can reconcile Clinton's new delegate-poaching plan with her previous talking points about respecting the "will of the people" who voted in Florida and Michigan - please enlighten me.

Because, if getting delegates who were allocated to particular candidates - based on the outcome of primary elections (or caucus attendance) - to vote for the opposing candidate isn't effectively disenfranchising the voters, what, pray tell, is?

Senator Hillary Rambo Clinton's next book will be titled:

IT TAKES A CLINTON TO RAZE OUR PARTY

In the 'First Read' section on MSNBC they pointed out that the party that has its nominee chosen first has won nine out of the past ten elections **sinking feeling**

It is apparently lost on Mrs. Clinton that she is advocating that delegates break their promise or "pledge."

This, along with the duck and run in Bosnia lie, falls under the heading "dishonesty."
