Girl In Red Phone Ad Denounces Hillary And Her "Politics Of Fear"
Now this is pretty cutting. Not long ago I noted that one of the kids safely sleeping in stock footage in Hillary's red phone ad was now of voting age and had revealed herself to be an Obama supporter.
Now, the young woman, Casey Knowles, has cut a new Obama campaign web video directly denouncing Hillary, the ad, and the Clinton campaign's overall tactics.
They had a little fun making this one, clearly. Knowles says that Hillary "wanted to scare you into voting for her" by cutting a scary ad with frightful blue tinting and a narrator with a "scratchy voice."
"That little girl was me," Knowles says. "And I'm here to tell you that I'm not scared. I reject the politics of fear that Senator Clinton uses to scare up votes."
And the kicker:
"I'm Casey Knowles. I approved this message. And not the other one."

Though at least Gov. Richardson can console himself with a personal shoutout from Penn in a conference call. I'm afraid Casey will have to make due with the blanket irrelevancy that covers the rest of us non-super delegates.

Because, of course, when we want to know whether someone is well qualified to be CiC we turn to the opinion of a 17 year old, whose qualification is that at age 8 or 9 she could look cute while sleeping.
Only at TPM could this be considered "cutting".

Funny, that is precisely what we do in America. Anyone who is of voting age and registered to vote makes the decision on who they think is qualified to be CinC with their vote.
Odd that you can't grasp the most basic premise of a self-governing people.
March 21, 2008 4:30 PM | Reply | Permalink
So I guess by your argument what Obama should do is get a telephone book, pick a citizen at random, and put them in an ad as if they are some kind of authority to whom others should pay special attention on the matter of who should be CiC.
Hey, now that I think about it, that is pretty much what they did, isn't it?

frankly0,
I am surprised that you have not realized that perception trumps reality, and it's not so much the cause that is reportable but the potential effect.
Cute girl featured in Clinton ad gives the smack down to Hillary. It'll make the news and reinforce the notion that Hillary is getting hit from all sides.
It worth a national ad buy at least, which btw generally don't have a lot of substance to them either, yet somehow still seem to work.

Hmm, ilitigant, sounds like you should go back to law school. Have you seen her contract? She "gave up the right to complain"? What's the basis for this suggestion? I'll also point out that she was 9 years old when this was shot--not an age at which children have the capacity to enter into or be bound by the terms of a contract. Any rights her parents may have given up were not, and could not, have been given up by her.
Of course, I'd be more than happy to see Hillary Clinton file a lawsuit against the 9-year-old girl from her "3 a.m." ad. You just can't buy that kind of publicity.
March 21, 2008 4:41 PM | Reply | Permalink
That's American law. She could be prosecuted in Canada. Fortunately, the U.S. has a policy against extraditing minors who criticize usage of stock videos in which they performed. But she could be renditioned to Egypt.

When Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton was first lady, their were no daily schedule records kept for the 3.00AM time slot, and that is why the following incident was not recorded:
One night, at around 3.00AM, as Hillary had just ended her late shift rounds of checking in on all the sleeping kids of America, and was about to bunk down for the night in her pantsuit pajamas and sleep wear pearls, the red phone rang.
Hillary answered it on the twenty seventh ring. NASA had discovered a huge meteorite bearing down on the earth that was projected to hit the planet within 15 minutes time, and destroy all life on earth.
Hillary calmly changed into her Wonder Woman Pantsuit costume, soared into space, deflected the asteroid, and returned back to her bed. She never revealed what she had done because NASA was afraid that if she revealed her super powers, then NASA would become redundant and would lose their federal funding.
Elect Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as your next President and she will protect Senator Obama's young daughters ever night while they sleep.
You know that Hillary cares more about protecting those young girls than their father and mother do!.

The kid got paid for being in a stock video. For her to now, after she's cashed her check, seek attention regarding her otherwise completely forgettable performance seems pretty smarmy to me. If she'd had any class whatsoever, she'd have pointed out to anyone who asked that she doesn't endorse anything in the video and that it's not really relevant who she, as an anonymous kid, supports for president.
It doesn't take a psychiatrist to figure out she's just using Obama to extend her own 15 minutes of fame.

Looks like the Dems are just as caught up in the cult of personality as the Redstaters are. There are a number of Obamaheads who seem to consider a 17 year old a hero for putting up a video on YouTube; while there's no shortage of Clintoncultists who are quick to point out the irrelevance of a 18 year old's opinion. (And, yes, I think it's great for an 18 year old to vote; but there's absolutely no reason for me to care WHO she's going to vote for).
