Early Exits: More Mississippi Voters Think Obama Is Qualified To Be Commander-In-Chief
Some interesting numbers from the preliminary exit polls:
According to numbers shown on Fox News, Obama holds a solid 10 point lead over Hillary on who voters think is qualified to be "commander-in-chief," 53%-43%.
We've been hearing that phrase a lot lately from Hillary, obviously, but among Mississippi voters at least her pitch doesn't seem to be working. On the other hand, that's a smaller spread than the margin of victory Obama will almost certainly emerge with tonight.
Separately, the Associated Press has an interesting finding from the exits: Obama voters appear to like Hillary better than Hillary voters like Obama. And they want him to pick Hillary as a running mate.
While six in 10 Obama voters said he should pick Hillary for veep, only four in 10 Hillary voters said she should pick him, suggesting that her harsh criticism of him may be sinking in with her supporters.
We'll be blogging the results right here at Election Central.

May just be that this is racial polarization--black voters still have significant affinity for the Clintons and the white voters supporting Clinton have ZERO love for Obama.

I think it might be racial polarization.
Everyone is probably a little racist, but some whites, especially less educated and economically depressed, are far more racist than many blacks.
ie. Some of these whites are totally opposed to BO. Many of the blacks are more forgiving, despite all of HRCs ugliness.
Sort of shows the lie to Ferraro's comments.

Well, mathematically it's impossible for her to overcome the delegate deficit. So, if she steals the nomination I don't think affinity would last an hour- blacks or young or latte drinkers.
Also, I don't think many would give a rat's ass about white f**ks in MS not liking a African American Candidate- that's why it's Missisippi. It's good they don't call the shots, otherwise we would still be going to different schools.

And they want her to pick Hillary as a running mate.
They want him to pick Hillary, right? I mean, sure, I'm just proofreading, but this whole top-of-ticket thing is getting confusing.

MSNBC's exits are completely different than the AP's, vis a vis the VP spot.
Also, waiting for idiotic ...

Interesting analysis on the VP question: but I submit that the reason her voters are less likely to say she should pick him is that he has publicly rejected the idea. So why should Hillary choose him if he doesn't want her to? He's told the world he doesn't want it.
She's never said anything like that & some of her campaign statements are ambiguous, such as Bill's, that definitely keep open the idea of her on the ticket.

And let's be honest here.
We know why so many Clinton supporters in MS wouldn't support Obama, don't we ?
Sad as it is, it is still MS.

Indeed. There are still pockets in the country where white people generally will not vote for a black person --- any black person. Encouragingly, there are many, many places where they will.

Yes, he sure does have an easy time of it with all those white Mississippians voting for him because he is black.
We really are giving Ferraro a hard time because she is white because Barack really has benefited from being black.

I think Jim Webb or Joe Biden will go a long way in assuaging some of that Hillary-supporter angst come the general election.
Seeeeeeeee-ya Clinton.

i'm not surprised that there's this difference in between clinton supporters supporting obama and vice verse. clinton has been trashing obama for the past several weeks. so it's natural that if you buy into the clinton campaign, you also buy into her idea obama not being a decent candidate.

Heres a fun stat on the exit polls.
Republicans: 11 percent total, 83 for Hillary, 17 for Obama.

Who would have thought Rush Limbaugh could have such an impact on our Primary ?

The gap between the number of Obama supporters who accept Hillary and Hillary supporters who accept Obama has nothing to do with her attacks.
There have been similar polls in other states, and the gap is nonexistent in states with different demographics (read: fewer racist whites).

Another fun stat
Dissatisfied if either one is the nominee: 6 percent
??? so 6 percent want neither of them to win.

Which candidate do you think is honest and trustworthy? Neither = 14 percent, 85 to Hillary 13 to Obama.

Since it's looking pretty likely that Obama is going to end up with more pledged delegates, for her to be in a position to be offering a VP nod to him she'll have to pound him senseless in every primary. If she can pull that off, her supporters are going to be flush with the thrill of vanquishing their rival and not in the mood for extending an olive branch.

O and here is the big one.
Is your opinion of John McCain:
Category % Total Clinton Obama
Strongly favorable 13 76 23
Somewhat favorable 24 54 44
Somewhat unfavorable 24 34 66
Strongly unfavorable 35 25 75

CNN has called MS for Obama already. No surprise, but interestingly they also have a calculation that shows Obama won the TX delegate vote by 99-94 after taking the caucuses 38-29. That, and the +8 CA gain makes me smile this week.

The Queen o' da Clintoids can even control her own campaign if you believe the integrity of the human-like noise that spews from her own mouth. Why is these even questions.
The sole reason for Obama to choose Clinton for VP is insurance against dying. NO one in the known universe would let Obama die knowing that HRC is a heart beat away AND the single person who would try to assassinate Obama would be under Secret Service guard and locked in the VP office.

In all good conscience I would have a difficult time reconciling voting for Hillary in the unlikely event she becomes the nominee.
Notwithstanding Iam not convinced Hillary would be all that different from McCain, but considering 8 of the Supreme Court Justices are over 70 years of age McCain vs Hillary is a non-brainer.

White MS Democrats pooled together wouldn't fill a short school bus. The Memphis Commerical Appeal reports that over 10% of the Dem primary voters in DeSoto County, MS, are Repubs, and over 20% are Indies.
I suspect this is an example of Idaho "Democrats" agreeing with MS, KS, UT, WY and AK "Democrats."
Obamas Demos are working closely with Repubs...that will work with McCain when the time comes.

Yeah that makes since since people who liked McCain voted for Hillary by huge numbers. She also won the conservative vote.

Have you tried looking at the exit polls? Obama is winning Democrats 67-33, Hillary is winning Republicans by an overwhelming 83-17.

I don't think that's it at all. I think the entire Clinton camp--supporters included--believe that Obama should wait his turn. They think Hillary was supposed to win this one, and that Obama is somehow "stealing" this election from its rightful owner.
They hate him because he's beating her. It's as simple as that. And if the situation were reversed, the numbers would be too.

Not impossible according to John King on CNN. He just showed on that map thing he uses that it is indeed possible that she might end up with more delegates. And the popular vote is a more likely win for her.
March 11, 2008 10:33 PM | Reply | Permalink
Yeah CNN shows the possible, if she wins by 65 v 35 for the rest of the states yeah she could win...
BUT ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. she cant even win NY by more then 57, and shes not favored in most of the states to go. Huckabee also had a chance to win if he won 65 to 35 for the rest of the states but that wasnt going to happen either.

F*ck CNN (Clintons News Network). They really are getting worse and worse and worse. What? Do the clintons own a majority of the stock? Or do they have king on payroll. She cannot catch up in pleged delegates and he keeps saying that its a tie. How is that possible????? Is he an idiot or a paid hack. Pathetic.
On another note, all day Mississippi government officials were expecting a "light to moderate" turnout of around 150,000. What were they smoking or was that a republican hack making the prediction. Based on vote totals, we are talking nearly 400,000, without all votes counted yet. That's another huge turnout. Any comments from any of the righ-twing corporate media on another huge turnout, even in heavily republican mississippi? If obama pulls this out, we are looking at a huge landslide, unbelievable election in November and the republican leadership is sh*tting in their pants. Look out 60 plus senators in excess of traitor joe and then he can take a hike. Holy cow!!!!

Yeah i don't get why the DNC is waiting so long, with Obama we can gain a 60 percent majority in both parts of congress and they also get a large amount of new supporters, and a huge amount of active young supporters.
