David Paterson Admits To Past Infidelity

New York's new Governor David Paterson made a startling admission to the New York Daily News in an interview this past weekend, just being published tonight. Starting in 1999, Paterson had an extra-marital affair lasting about two or three years, and his wife Michelle also had an affair during this period in their marriage.

"This was a marriage that appeared to be going sour at one point," Paterson said. "But I went to counseling and we decided we wanted to make it work. Michelle is well aware of what went on."

It's an amazing confession from a governor who has taken office because of a sex scandal ruining his predecessor — though in this case his admitted past infidelity would seem to pale in comparison to Eliot Spitzer's habitual use of outrageously top-dollar prostitutes. It was probably a good idea to get it out of the way as soon as possible, so he can get on with governing the state.

"Startling?" "Amazing?" What is wrong with you? Hyperbole is appropriate because Drudge deems it so?

There is nothing remotely "startling" about a couple going through a difficult time in their marriage, seeing other people, and then deciding to stay together.

Get over yourself.

Well in politics it is startling and amazing that he would just come out and say it.

I suppose the national tabloids were after him.

Bush and Co. robbed the Federal Reserve of $30 billion in broad daylight, and all people care to do is stick their noses in other peoples' underwear, or tell them that their religion is the wrong one. Beautiful....

Amen!

Yes, Amen. It is ugly that non-issues have become an obsession with msm/blogs. Wake up people. Regardless of what happens, msm's will continue to make the money (because of your stupid addiction to them), while you guys will find that you have been screwed. once again.

It makes me sad that he HAS to get this out in the open. This was a private affair that his wife was well aware of. She had an affair of her own. It was a rough patch in their marriage and they decided to try to make it work. Seeing as how 50% of marriages end in divorce, like, say, John McCain's (after an affair of his own), I may likely call this a success story. A couple who took their marriage serious enough to make it work after stumbling.

I mean, I understand that the state of politics dictates that he gets out in front of this, but it's just depressing that he has to nip this in the bud. He wasn't purchasing thousand dollar prostitutes' services.

Paterson had an affair? He's human. He is not without sin. And he benefits from a very un-level playing field re: Spitzer.

Many people figure that because he was blind that he was a form of saint. He's a member of the human race. I take it as a bizarre sign of progress. All sorts of people are flawed.

We are all flawed.

I like it, good for them. I don't know what percentage of marriages have infidelities, but it's certainly a lot. It would be nice if we understood this as a given for our species.

I wouldn't call this a given (many of us regular folk have long marriages without any infidelities), but otherwise I agree with you (and others here). This is none of our business. Unlike Spitzer, he didn't break the law.

What's between two adults should stay between two adults. I don't see a problem with it. Spitzer was different since what he did was illegal. If he's done it with his own money in Nevada (or behind closed doors in RI apparently) I wouldn't have a problem with it, then it would be a thing between him and his wife.

No, it's not amazing. There is no comparison. That's because it's not scandalous.

It was probably a good idea to get it out of the way as soon as possible, so he can get on with governing the state.

Get it out of the way?

What exactly is "top-dollar" for a prostitute? Kristen was in the three diamond range, which went up to seven.

Please correct the article.

Further digging reveals that the range for models at the Emperor's Club VIP was from 3 diamonds to 7 diamonds.

Kristen was an economy model.

Bill is laughing at this man! Only one?
