Are You Trying To Tell Us Something? Hillary Campaign Sticks Reporters In Men's Room
Forget the dog house. The Hillary camp had other ideas for where to stick reporters assigned to cover her in Texas yesterday: In the men's room, right next to the toilets...
It was immediately interpreted as something of a metaphor for the Clinton campaign’s attitude to the press: With Sen. Hillary Clinton at Austin’s convention center for “a Texas-sized townhall,” her media entourage was taken to its work space — in a men’s room of a separate community center. The tables set up for reporters nearly abutted the urinals. That made for a more spirited rush than usual for the best working space, with female reporters quickly staking out chairs on the small room’s opposite side.
So was the Hillary campaign trying to tell the reporters something? No, claims Clinton spokesperson Doug Hattaway: “For the record, these accommodations should in no way be taken as a commentary on the quality of our media coverage.”
We believe it. If Clinton campaign advisers had situated members of the press in accordance with their attitude towards the media right now, the reporters would have found themselves sitting in the urinals, not near them.

Don't mean to be disrespectful, but you guys are really slow on the uptake. This was circulating the web LAST NIGHT.

If the media did hate the Clintons, this could hint at the reason, they always treat the media like shit, this is just the most visible example. Not saying the media has biased coverage, because if anything they have given Hillary a free pass, but if they weren't exactly happy with the Clintons, I think that is legit.

After the last five to seven days actually, I would say the press has worked hard to earn their way out of the toilet. Maybe into the Lincoln Bedroom?

They'll think twice about turning down her bagels next time, won't they?

No worries. I do have a question though, why do you post articles to the Horses Mouth and not allow comments? Particularly these hand wringing stories about the mistreatment of Clinton by the press or the coddling of Obama? Seems to me that those stories are rather pertinent to the election and given Clinton's heavy-handed manipulation of the press over the last week, I'd say it's the most decisive story effecting the elections today.
Just my thoughts.

One other question: There was quite the uproar over HRC's comments on her, McCain and Obama last night. I've yet to see a single TPM article dissecting it or discussing the ramifications of it. I'd be interested on your take and the relative silence amongst the MSM on this issue (save Olbermann and Maddow last night).

it's a funny story. thx for posting it.
i just got some turnout numbers for some central oh precincts as of 1:30 PM EST:
Franklin
14-D 152 voters, estimate 90% D
14-F 180 voters, estimate 90% D
Delaware
Orange 1 454 GOP, 115 Dem
as you can see, Delaware is a very GOP ex-urb and the Cols precincts are very Dem. there is levy (issue 29) that will drive some people to the polls in central ohio. turnout does not look good...yet.

And the press took this, because?

And what is the significance of this story anyway?
Why are more of the threads not about the real questions being raised in the campaign. For example, Clinton is pouring on the gas about how experienced she and McCain are, and posters are having to try to sneak in the discussion of that. In that spirit, let me try a partial list of some of the 80 leaders Hillary keeps boasting about having "met" during her 35 years of experience:
Russian President Boris Yeltsin - dead.
Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto - assassinated.
John Hume, leader of Northern Ireland Social Democratic and Labor Party and co-signer of the Good Friday peace agreement - retired.
David Trimble, head of Ulster Unionist Party and First Minister of Northern Ireland (co-signer of Good Froday agreement) - obscure member of British Conservative Party.
Czech Prime Minister Milos Zeman - retired.
Turkish Prime Minister Tansu Ciller - retired.
Jordanian King Hussein - dead.
British Prime Minister Tony Blair - resigned.
South African President Nelson Mandela - retired.
Chinese President Jiang Zemin - retired.
Philippine President Fidel Ramos - retired, former member of Carlyle Group International Advisory Board.
Indian Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao - dead.
Moroccan King Hassan - dead.
Bosnian President Alija Izetbegovic - dead.
German Chancellor Helmut Kohl - retired, enmeshed in scandal.
Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin - assassinated.
Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat - dead.
Saudi King Fahd - dead.
Indonesian President Suharto - dead.
French President Jacques Chirac - retired.
Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo - retired, serves on international advisory board of Coca Cola Company.
Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso - retired.
Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien - retired.
Australian Prime Minister Paul Keating - retired.
Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto - dead.
Argentine President Carlos Menem - retired, under investigation for fraud.

Wow, Kirk - very, very nice work! I would send this to the Obama campaign - it could be very useful if she doesn't concede tomorrow! ;)
That 35-years of experience is such horseshit, anyway, especially her 8 years in the WH. She had no security clearance so she wasn't at all privy to any national security issues, and as people have said here before, pillow-talk does NOT qualify one to be commander-in-chief. She has utterly and completely lost me after her "endorsement" last night of McCain over Obama. That was truly a big f**k you to the Democratic party - she will do whatever it takes to win, even if she has to take the party down with her. Disgraceful! I hope the voters in Ohio and Texas send her a clear message that they will not tolerate such a betrayal.

They weren't all dead/retired/assasinated all the past 35 years.

What's your point, that old people shouldn't die or retire?
March 4, 2008 1:43 PM | Reply | Permalink
Her argument is that she should be in the White House because she already knows the world leaders. If those world leaders are no longer leaders (either because of death or retirement) that undercuts her argument SIGNIFICANTLY.

Once again, the Clintons are following the Bush/Rove model: whine about bias and then treat the media like shit. And those masochists in the scribbling community eat it right up.
