The Next Obama Smear

Courtesy of John Solomon's Washington Times, the next wingnut attack on Obama appears to be that senior members of the U.S. military establishment allegedly "fear" an Obama Presidency.

I'm sure this isn't true, but if it is good. They have been f*cking up big time - See Iraq. They better be shaking in their boots. Just like the "contractors"/mercenaries being employed in iraq. Times are a changin.

Laughable. why not just let the military run the country? Oh. That's right. That's something other than Democracy.

I knew there was a reason we didn't do that.

if the establishment doesnt like him, thats probably a good thing.

But soldiers who do the actual fighting in these botched wars are supporting obama overwhelmingly.

Which faction do you think carries more weight with the american people?

I can get behind that....

OK, really, now, how can the Clinton campaign claim that the press is easier on Obama? We're starting to see a whole lot of negative press, attacks and racist innuendo (did you see Stephanie Tubbs Jones state that Somalia was Obama's country and nation?) The press is going to be equally vicious about him now that he's the frontrunner. They can't let either Obama or Clinton defeat their golden boy McCain.

Obama could REALLY turn this around to his benefit - talk about how our brave soldiers don't fear anything. Something like, "They don't fear the insurgents in Iraq, and they certainly don't fear my pragmatic approach to foreign policy. Anybody who says that the military fears me, or my opponent, are woefully out of touch with how truly courageous the men and women who serve their country truly are. There may be concern in the hearts and minds of our military that this current administration has used them for political gain, but concern is not the same as fear. We have the greatest military in the world, the bravest soldiers, and all Americans share a dedication to keeping this country safe and prosperous."

It's been reported that most of the presidential campaign donations from military personnel are going to Republican Ron Paul and Democrat Barack Obama.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/02/military-donors.html

This tells me that Republicans should start waking up.

I agree. For more on Coonsey's views:

Sorry. Had to do it.

an attack easily derailed by pointing out that Obama has received far more in donations to his campaign from active-service military personnel than any other candidate excepting Ron Paul.

blunts the attack and brings up what has to be an uncomfortable situation for the GOP in that the candidate they have tried so hard to marginalize is getting money from "the troops" because of his heretical anti-war stance.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Our military is afraid????

Funny, because Obama gets the most support from soldiers, not that anyone seems to care what they think.

Expecting Hillary to desperately jump on this bandwagon in 5...4...3...2...

I may be alone in this, but it seems to me that the GOP is already going all "kitchen sink" on Obama.

I take that as a sign they got nothin'.

user-pic

They're working it, no doubt about it. But this is just the set up. If Obama gets the nomination, in the fall, this theme will be recast as "the military has long expressed doubts about Obama"...

Over the weekend, it was the patriotism issue. Clinton clambered aboard with her attacks. Tuesday, it's the military. Wonder what Wednesday will be?

They better be shaking in their boots. Just like the "contractors"/mercenaries being employed in iraq. Times are a changin.

Hey now, there's a helluva difference between the active duty military and the people who choose to cash out and join Blackwater--that's a one big tar bush you're slinging around there.

I concur. However, I also see that no offense was intended by that remark.

Incidentally, thanks and no offense was intended to our military who are doing an honorable and incredible job for the good of the country, like yourself. Thank You.

I am not trying to tar brush the soldiers or the lower ranking officers. Not all generals, but alot have sold out their soldiers for politics and this administration. That is deplorable and in my opinion a dereliction of duty. That is who I am trying to tar brush, along with the "contractors"/mercenaries. Also, concerning blackwater, alot of the mercenaries are not even former us soldiers. They are foreigners.

I am sorry for not being clear.

Fair enough. The lack of oversight/accountability with Blackwater is very alarming. Then when you consider that Cheney has been pushing various programs over many years that encourage privatization of the military... not in the least bit reassuring. He really wan't kidding when he said he had better things to do than go to Viet Nam.

loves their money in the Pentagon, and he has plans for some of it elsewhere.

Furthermore 'the Military', as well as the Republican administration, has shown itself to be all too willing to torture, misappropriate funds away from troop welfare, and prolong tours well beyond what is prudent.

They need a big wake up call. Our economy can't afford their profligate spending and poor advice.

Why on earth would John Solomon move over to the Washington Times? Seriously? Was he "invited" to leave the Post?

user-pic

Hum?...

And who are the two candidates that are receiving the most support and contributions from the military? Thas right!

Ron Pauland ....wait for it.....

Obama

My guess is that this is coming from Wesley Clark.

Wes is afraid that Obama will do something naive like this:

Actually she's already thrown the Toilet.

This is the kind of crap the gop will use

Solomon's story is simply a stab at trying to provoke a negative response from the Obama camp against the military. Not gonna happen.

Any criticism of Obama is dubbed a "smear." Your headline is the only smear here. Its a smear against US military leaders who have legitimate concerns about the most inexperienced presidential candidate in more than a century winning the nomination at a time of decisive challenges for the future of the United States' position in the world. Since when did bona fide concerns, politely raised, become a smear. I applaud Josh Marshall, but have grave doubts about the tone here.

100 more years! Hoo-wah!

The concerns of one so-called military leader presented as the position of all military leaders is a smear... psychopathic Clintonites seem to be delusional enough to think that her 8 yrs as first lady gives her some kind of experience... HRC has less experience that Barack Obama in the real world.... "first lady" is not a qualification... considering she was surprised by the revelation that Monica was blowing her husband after everyone else knew tells you exactly how little her WH experience means.... and quite frankly, what the so-called military leadership thinks is of no relevance to the election of 2008... since when did the military rule this country? Our constitution is explicitly designed to prevent "military leaders" from having any power... The last people true Americans want in civilian power are so-called military leaders... most "military leaders" understand this... they understand their limitation....

It's time to face reality, HRC is past her prime and will not be the nominee of the Democratic party... her time has passed... she had a chance in 2004... it is time for her to be turned out to pasture...

Kimterry: Finally, it is not the job the so-called military leaders to express concerns about presidential candidates.... if they are, they are in violation of law. We do not live in Pakistan.

Why are we concerned with what John Solomon has to say... he is so stuck in the 1850s, he is irrelevant...

As the troops in Iraq continue to give to Obama's campaign...

File this one under "Dogs, won't hunt."

You are so right... Kimterry needs to answer why the troops in the field support Obama over HRC or McCain by double digits.... the best I can figure out is that they are tired of having old, incompetent people tell them what to do.

Just received an e-mail from a nephew of mine in Iraq... he poses the question this way: Why would we want to have Hillary or McCain continue the losing policies of GWB? Both are GWB lite.

Finally, Kimterry, I love you but you are part o the problem and not part of the solution.

Bingo. We have a bingo.

Dear Kimterry: my oldest nephew asks this question: When will you stop supporting HRC who has for the past 15 yrs denigrated his service to the United States because he is a gay man... He wants to know, if you can't confront the delusion of don't-ask-don't-tell, how can we ever believe you will till the military NO, NO, NO. Notice to Kimterry: I'm ready to expend all my financial resources to destroy you and other Hillary idiots... yes, you gave us an illusion of hope in the 1990s... but, Hillary is a Goldwater Girl deddicated to the destruction of the American electorate... From this day forward I will do everything in my power to protect my newphews from your Clintonite cabal...

As my nephew in Iraw says, We're not here for Hillary... we are here for post Hilllary.

Strange, seems like almost political interference in the democratic process.

Almost as if we are a Turkey or Prussia, where the military gets a say in the civilian government, rather than vice versa.

Seems almost like an orchestrated campaign by Bush to abuse the Pentagon for partisan purposes.

Strange. Couldn't happen, right?

"t's been reported that most of the presidential campaign donations from military personnel are going to Republican Ron Paul and Democrat Barack Obama.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/02/military-donors.html
"

Priceless. So the rank and file are sending cash to the very "cut-and-run" Democrats the Pentagon is badmouthing?

How come CNN and all the other news orgs don't talk about this? IS it because it doesn't fit the stereotype of unflagging GOP support in the military? Or the GOP as the patriotic party that was supposedly good at all things military?

What, an attack on Obama? Hillary must be behind it.
