New Obama Ad Pushes Change, Rebuilding New Orleans

Barack Obama has a new ad in Louisiana, seemingly picking up where John Edwards left off in highlighting the restoration of New Orleans as an issue:

There are 56 delegates at stake in tomorrow's Louisiana primary.

I realize the source is satanic, but this article has merit:

this ad is a slam dunk

If I were in LA I'd be pretty jacked up by this ad. Hell, I'm not in LA and I'm still moved by it.

If I were a cold hearted pragmatist, I'd think this ad was moving and effective but still vote for Obama

Does anyone know of any polls coming out of LA? I have seen polls showing that Obama is up big in VA but I have a feeling that it is going to be pretty close in LA.

Does anyone else think that this would be just the perfect place for Edwards to resurface and endorse Obama? I mean, how can Edwards, who was the real progressive in this election not stand by Obama, who best represents the progressive wing of the democratic party. I mean HRC voted for war, patriot act, Iran bill, bankrupcy bill, and unwavering support for the war up until it was no longer politically advantageous(2006). How others can not see this and just cling the clinton name is so sad. I think if people took their time to actually get to know Obama, he would be beating her overwhelmingly in the national polls. Look, middle class under educated people support HRC...gee, i wonder if they bother to read the news and get informed about each candidate and their positions. Or, do you think they just say to themselves, "Oh, I know Hillary, but this Obama guy I know nothing about....nor will I take the time to find out because I am comfortable with HRC". Stupid logic, but then again stupid people seem to be voting for HRC.

And Obama's plan to rebuild New Orleans is - surprise!- the same as W's. Wow! That's really change!

No, it isn't. Stop spreading lies, Moishele.

Barack doesn't care about black people?

Nope... no racial overtones here!

Which is it with you Clinton supporters, anyway? Does Barack love or hate black people?

Pick one and get back to us, m'kay?!

Louisiana needs President Obama. He understands building/restoring from the ground up and I believe he would honor his commitment to John Edwards' anti-poverty focus and the needs of New Orleans and the entire Katrina devastated region.

Wow look! Obama's elitist supporters are alive and well. Perhaps next they'll suggest that an IQ test be a prerequisite to voting. Look at how much they believe in bridging the divides and bringing people together! Keep posting stuff like this, you're bringing a lot of people over to your side. Just look at how he surged and overcame Hillary on Super Tuesday...

Obama's elitist supporters are alive and well

wait, i thought he relies on the black electorate to win. or white people in red states. so confusing.

I know. The steady stream of bullshit can be hard to keep up with.

Obama is slowly making inroads in the demographics in which he is weak - women and the working class. It's true that blue collar workers typically have less access to media and less time or interest to devote to politics. This doesn't mean that they are unintelligent or uninformed, it means that they do not necessarily go out of their way to decipher all of the differences between candidates. They remember the 90's, they have a favorable opinion of Bill Clinton, and so they are voting for Hillary. There's no malice there. In fact it makes a lot of sense. In addition, they are worried about the economy, as we all are, and so are probably hesitant to pull the lever for the new guy who may promise change but does not have the track record to compare to a Clinton presidency. The more Obama reaches out to these voters and the more they learn about him and his past, the more they will come to like him and perhaps even vote for him. Both Democratic candidates will be much better for the working class than the president we currently have.

Thank you billysunday for an even-handed response. I couldn't agree more with your evaluation of the working class demographic. Obama does need to make himself known to the working class that so far has shown a preference for the Clintons. I'm not certain that this mailer is the most appropriate means of doing so.

What mailer? This is a thread about a TV ad.

'This doesn't mean that they are unintelligent or uninformed, it means that they do not necessarily go out of their way to decipher all of the differences between candidates.'

There are no major differences between the two.

**other than those made up in the minds' of Obama supporters, yeah I said it**

There are very, very few differences in their positions on policy. But those willing to "roll the dice" on Obama seem to believe that he will be able to help the party win more down-ballot candidates. A larger Democratic majority in the House and Senate means an easier time pushing through liberal legislation. The difference is about the future of the Democratic party. If Hillary wins the general election (and that's a big if), she may be a good tonic for the problems of the Bush administration, but the significance of her and Bill's return to the White House does not bode well for future Democrats.

There are no major differences between the two.
As someone who came to Obama over policy (as did Gregory Djerejian and hilzoy at Obsidian Wings), you might be interested to know that Obama has strong policy credentials. In fact, what convinced me he has the vision for the job was his Foreign Affairs Magazine article, which presented a concept of American diplomacy and strength that did not, for my money, compare to Clinton's plan. It's subtle, deep, and not easily compressed into a sound bite.

Bill Clinton raised a whole lot of money after Katrina and people in LA remember that. If you look at the comments to the stories in the LA newspapers, you will see that Hillary has a lot of support because of this.

Don't forget that Edwards political career is over now. He has to be sure to pick the right person to endorse to be able to get a cabinet position. He would be wise to wait until after March 4. At that point the Dem party will likely broker a deal. He would be best positioned to jump on whoever takes Ohio and Texas.

If Edwards waits too long to endorse Obama, he's going to be left with the scraps... or with nothing at all. For this reason alone, I would expect him to endorse if he's going to before Texas and Ohio, for maximum effect.

I heard Hillary giving a speech yesterday, in which she said (several times): "YES WE CAN!!! AND YES WE WILL!!!"

She's pathetic and shameless.

Here's a message out there for everyone who hasn't donated to Obama yet.

I'm going to donate $10 today -- up to a max. of $500 -- for everyone out there who makes their first donation to his campaign, and replies back with a *ding!*

Any takers? Anyone else want to match my pledge to encourage other firsttime Obama donors?
