New Hillary Ads Feature Ohio Gov. Strickland
Hillary Clinton has a new ad up in Ohio, featuring popular Gov. Ted Strickland:
The ad's focus on jobs and looking out for the middle class would seem to have a clear aim — Barack Obama has been winning the votes of white men in many primaries, so it's natural for Hillary to try to shore up those votes with a pitch to working-class voters.
Hillary also has a radio ad focused around jobs, available here, and a radio ad featuring Strickland, available here.

Bluepuppy - She looks so hot in this ad. Hot, hot, hot. She is going to win it all and vanquish obama and mccain.
(Sorry, I felt bad that noone posted a comment on this thread yet, so I thought I'd credit bluepuppy with a comment).

Is anyone else bothered that he felt it necessary to say she was a "person of deep faith"? (I know this is not unique to the Clinton campaign.)
I'm sorry, I'm just getting more and more sensitive to the fact that so many Americans (and from comments here, evidently quite a few TPM'ers, although hopefully not the majority) don't think an atheist can be a good leader.

Yes, Ben, I am extremely bothered by it as well. I can't stand that in the 21st century we still think we have to pander to the hyper-religious elements in this country and publicly profess our faith. We've backslid a long way from JFK's premise that his religion was his religion and no one else's business, and it had no place in politics. It is disheartening.
I am of the firm belief that an atheist can make a great leader. You don't need a belief in a god to be a moral, compassionate, and just person. You just need a brain and a belief in the innate goodness of most human beings and operate from that.

Be Jazuz, I think that Atheists and Believers are just two sides of the same coin. Neither one of them can actually prove what they believe in.
I happen to be an auld agnostic myself, Thanks be to God!.

I am both a strong atheist (I believe there is no God or gods) and a strong agnostic (I believe that it's impossible to prove that there is no God or gods).

Well, I really don't care if there is a Supreme Deity or not.
What I want The Merchants of Religion to provide proof for is there claim that each person has an immortal soul. I see not a shred of scientific evidence that there is such a thing, and if humans do not have immortal souls then there will be no after life, and hence no reward or punishment from some so called eternal supreme being.
Why not start there. Instead of trying to uncover the unknowable, why not prove that the soul exists, and if it does, how come humans can keep it trapped in a dying body with such a crude contraption as a respirator!
On a lighter note: Notice how all the religions of the book have their God as being a male. Since he is all alone, why does he have the trapping of a mating male. Why does he need a cosmic penis if there is no female to connect with.

I'm indirectly working on that one. :)
I create models of the mammalian hippocampal system that capture detail down to the synaptic level. The models can be extended to capture the entire brain, except for a lack of computational speed, computer memory, and the necessary neuroanatomical, neurophysiological, and neurochemical details. Details, details.
But seriously, I can imagine that in 20-30 years someone (probably not me) will be able to create a good simulation of the human brain. Depending on whether it experiences time at the same rate as us or not, it might start claiming a few minutes/months/years after that to have "free will". Assuming that quantum mechanics aren't required to achieve this (and I actually believe that they're not), then we would be able to have two exact copies, living in copies of a virtual world, both of which have the emergent property (i.e., not deliberately programmed in) of claiming to have free will, but doing the exact same thing as each other. For many people (but probably not most), I expect that will be strong evidence against the actual existence of "free will". The question of souls will naturally follow.

Wow, that's a wonderful explanation - thanks. I have to say that I'm in your camp - I don't believe in a God and I can't prove that there is (or isn't) one.

Well, just to be precise, a weak atheist doesn't believe in a God or gods, whereas a strong atheist believes there is no God or gods. Most people aren't precise about whether they lack a belief in one or more deities, or if they have a belief there are no deities. (Many atheists will claim that belief doesn't enter into it at all. I believe they're wrong.)
(Weak vs. strong is not meant in any way to be pejorative.)
A weak agnostic isn't sure whether or not there are one or more deities, but also isn't sure whether or not it could be proven either way. (It's a question of semantics as to what's more agnostic.)

Wow. You can actually, clearly see that Strickland doesn't believe a word of what he's saying. The John Glenn ad for Hillary is quite good, because Glenn comes across as natural, wise, and honest. He's a good advocate for Hillary. But Strickland! Man, I don't see why they would waste good money putting this on the air. Not to mention the fact that he's a very conservative Democrat and not incredibly beloved here in OH-IO.
Also, an anecdote. Just got back from seeing Chelsea Clinton do a Q&A here in Granville, Ohio. She was a great advocate for her mother, answering questions astutely and with a lot of detail. However, she looked and sounded tired, annoyed, and defeated. It must be a strain on her to have to march through all these little towns and try to fire people up, only to have people in state after state reject her mother.

Although many people will complain about dynasties, I'd love to see Chelsea run for an office somewhere. She's got class.

Oh, for heaven(or some atheistic substitute concept)'s sake! How many tens of millions of bright young people are there in this country?? Can't we let someone other than a Bush or a Clinton have a turn???
I heard about some guy named Osama or something. What about him?

Oh, and the midi trumpet soundtrack in the back sounds like it's from a Nintendo game. Eeesh. Hillary, you've done better.
This ad looks cheap, to be honest. I wonder if she's running out of money.

I saw Governor Strickland, for the first time, on a Sunday morning Network show, just a few weeks ago. Given his reputation, I was really surprised at how poorly he presented himself. During the last few minutes of the show, his head was trembling while he spoke like he had no control over it. It was very disconcerting to watch. Does he have a health issue, or was he just hyper nervous on that Sunday New program?

Hillary is not a fighter. She has a glass jaw. Obama has knocked her block off in eleven straight bouts. Hillary keeps claiming that she is a fighter, but she keeps on getting put down for an eight count, bout after bout.
Hillary is all Boxing Gloves and No Punches.

I second that! I honestly DO NOT trust people when they claim to be "faith based" anything. It says to me they are irrational in some profound way and YES I hate his implying that anyone else is not fully human and compassionate without being somehow .... someway .... swooning in faith a few times everyday.

It is a shame that we are going to have a new President but in about a year in to Barack Obama's presidency you are going to find that he is just like George W Bush. Unprepared for the job and unable to appoint the right people in his cabinet. He has surrounded himself with mostly young inexperienced people much like he is in the senate. We are fighting wars over seas, have an economy that will be in recession, and a national dept that is out of control. And all people want want to do is nit pick the woman candidate, who has never lost a tuff battle against the Republicans. You just want to praise the candidate that has Never had to get his senate seat, the republicans moved Allan Keys from Maryland to run against Obama. This race for President has been so for tilted against Hillary Clinton by the Media, and Press from the beginning. If you and not see that you do not have an open mind, or you are a Clinton hater from way back and it doesn't matter if it is Bill, or Hillary you just Hate. It is easy to see why the Fox types hate Hillary and try to shoot her down at every chance, a Clinton has Never lost to a Republican. But it is strange as to why there are democrates that hate her, must be that woman thing, ther are a Lot of men that I know that had said that they would Never vote for a Woman for President. It will come back and bite us in the end.
