Sorry, Huckmentum hopefuls: NBC and Fox call Virginia for McCain.

Maybe they should wait a little bit longer. Look at what happened in Washington.

I think it is a bit telling that states keep voting for Obama and McCain, not Obama and Hillary. It doesn't take an aerospace engineer to figure out who is most electable all across America (not just in states that will vote for a Democrat no matter who it is).

wwjb, I agree. It's very telling.

I so wanted Huck to win tonight. What a train wreck for the GOPers if their nominee keeps losing races.

NBC and barackobama.com are both claiming an Obama victory in DC.
Yes. We. Can.

What's this about McCain just barely escaping with his dignity? It looks to me like he's kicking Huckabee's butt.

This is what's telling:
78% reporting in VA, and it is
Huckabee 156,267
McCain 177,872
Clinton 245,741
Obama 430,244
Do the math.

CNN has it at 49% - 43% for McCain, with 78% of the precincts reporting.

Those are impressive numbers for McCain and Obama both, but what's your point? That there was a bigger turnout amongst registered Democrats?
February 12, 2008 9:27 PM | Reply | Permalink
Maybe it is that Obama beat McCain and Huckabee combined by himself.
February 12, 2008 9:28 PM | Reply | Permalink
Which only shows that more registered Dems showed up than Republicans, which would make a lot of sense since the Democratic race is hotly contested and the Republican isn't.

I usually like the veracifier but Josh just didn't get what was motivating MD which was the incumbant congressional races. Wayne Gilchrest (R-Md.) and Al Wynn (D-Md.) Now usually these races are not at the top of the billing in a political battle, but with Obama stomping Hillary in MD, and McCain awaiting the eventual ticket, the turnout despite the weather was for these races.
If anything MD should have been analyzed as how the Obama factor would impact Wynn and the McCain factor Gilchrest.
I read some negative commentary at FreeRepublic about extending the voting, and I agree that if people participated, donated, campaigned that they should get an opportunity to vote. Even if the voting was extended the news of that extension need to be factored into the extension time alloted.
Sooo.. I guess we wait to see how Wynn and Gilchrest do?
The other results are a given, McCain and Obama carry MD.
But the veracifier missed this turnout narrative motivator and that is what is driving MD.

I am not sure I agree, dilluminati, but I guess it depends on how hotly contested the Congressional races were. The turnout could be affected by how well satisfied voters are with the incumbent or how weak the challenger is, or any number of factors other than the weather.

What's really weird is that CNN is calling the MD primary for McCain, at 59% to 26%, with 0% reporting (under 1,000 votes). Same for Obama, even though he has fewer votes than Clinton, 667 to 681. I guess I just don't understand how these things are predicted!

Google news for Gilchrest, it was a dog fight.
1.5 million spent on direct mail in that district just for the GOP.
Highly unusual for MD politics. Make no mistake about it, Obama and McCain win MD, the question is if Wynn and Gilchrest win?
Club for Growth has spent well over a million trying to target the district.
