McCain Accepts Endorsement Of Apocalyptic Preacher John Hagee
John McCain went to Texas yesterday to accept the endorsement of megachurch leader and televangelist John Hagee, a leading figure in the Christian Zionist movement. However, the Dallas Morning News notes that McCain avoided a question about Hagee's eschatological brand of theology. "All I can tell you is I'm very proud to have pastor Hagee's support," McCain said.
Hagee's teachings, as laid out in books of his such as Jerusalem Countdown, center around the viewpoint that the Bible has prophesied the current war on terror, that the United States and Israel should wage a preemptive strike against Iran and any other Middle Eastern countries who pose a threat to Israel, and that an imminent war over Israel will culminate in the Second Coming.

Oh, God, my father knew this asshole (my dad lived in Dallas for a while - his church is a thing to behold!) He is a complete fraud and charlatan. Well, if you can't get Dobson's endorsement I guess you go with the next best wacko.

Ahh, you got to love that the conservatives aren't changing direction at all, I think they want to go down in a ball of flames.
Gotta love the crazies. I'm still waiting for Fred Phelps to endorse McCain. :P
Maybe he can run for VP.

McCain should denounce AND reject this guy. I wonder if he thinks Jews should be "perfected."

It'd be nice to see Tim Russert make McCain dance the Denunciation Dance for this.

I'd rather see russert and the right-wing corporate media make mccain dance over his lie that al queda in iraq could somehow take over the country if we left. The shiites and iraqi sunnis and kurds would never allow that to happen. It's a silly statement and mere fear mongering. If only the press would do its gd job. We wouldn't be in the situation we are right now in this country if the media wasn't a corporate tool used to spew right-wing propoganda. Pathetic.

Awesome endorsement for mccain, awesome. I hope lush and cutter and orally and insanity all endorse him as well. I hope they all go out and campaign for him and get all gushy together over the threat to western civilization by 10 feet tall islamo-fascists trying to come across the mexican border and steal our women folk. The more these bozos endorse mccain and the more he distorts the terror threat and preaches 100 years in iraq, the more moderate republicans and independants will vote democratic in November. Keep it up mccain.

I sometimes watch Hagee on the Jesus Channel - he is as ignorant about theology as he is versed in scripture. He recites random bible passages (mostly Revelations) to bolster his 'Run for your lives' scenario for the end of the world. Oh, and he will sell you tapes and DVDs of his sermons, copies of his books, and various tchotchkes for a love gift.
Hagee is a charlatan of the first order. He is also a proven liar (but liar and mega-church preacher are synonymous.) If he's the best McCain can do, McCain is more screwed than I thought.

I don't know where to post this, but this thread is related enough. I suggest for you to read today Novak's Washington Post column. The column deals on why Pawlenty should not be McCain's VP. (Basically, he wants to do something about CO2 emmisions, total heresy).
But the parts of the column in which he praise McCain (he is 'open' to big oil and big coal) would make a great commercial for Obama.

John Hagee and John McCain have more in common than their first name. Hagee, like McCain, is known to have cheated on his first wife (while pastor of a church no less) with his eventual, and much younger second wife. I guess now they'll be able to compare notes.
