House GOP Video: America Is In Danger Because Of The Dems
Here's a taste of what we can expect from the Republicans in the general election season, now that the primaries seem to be almost over. The House GOP has posted a Web video attacking the Democratic leadership for not moving to renew the Protect America Act, with the very straightforward message that the Dems will get us all killed by the gun-waving Muslims:
This video seems like it's more than just a political ad — it's almost as if it's a commercial for the next season of 24. And we'll be seeing a lot more of this stuff all year long.

Cooooool. When does the movie come on DVD?
Now all they need is that dramatic music to play whenever McCain gives his fluffy pronouncements about "transcendent challenges".
Without the music, it sounds like the gasp of a party in decline.

give me a BREAK. This whole thing is the biggest fairytale ive ever seen...
But really the prospect of having to listen to 10 more months of fear mongering makes me sick. Why cant the democrats run a tough add about how republicans are trampling on the constitution or point out that as franklin said "Those who would give up essential Libertys to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety"
are principles are the most important thing we have.

The problem with the advertising play is the GOP isn't going to ahve the money to pull it off effectively.

I'm sorry, but I sat and giggled during this idiotic video - it really is hilarious! I'm not saying that America doesn't have threats, but come on - the music alone is enough to make any sane person smile. This is such propaganda, and I really think (at least, I hope) that the American people are beyond this now and see through these thinly-veiled attempts to scare us - been there, done that.

It seems to imply that the administration is guided in its actions by law. Interesting.

Dramatic much?>?
It just goes to show they really are out of touch with Americans..
compared to the debate last night, it is amazing. The Republicans are all fear, fear fear whereas the Democratic party is actually trying to address real issues Americans are worried about; like healthcare, the economy and getting are troops home.

Why would they allow a reporter to talk about warrant less wiretaps right in the piece? If they just talked about the protect America act, they might make it seem scary, but when a journalist is right up there talking about warrantless wire taps, it really undermines their case.

When can we start countering with, "September 11th happened on the Republican's watch?"
I understand the need to avoid appearing to use the tragedy for political gain. But isn't that in fact what the Republicans are doing now?
I've yet to see/read/hear this theme presented by party leaders in any mainstream forum.

LOL. A parody of this is needed. Forget policy or issue discussions. A humorous and deeply ironic and scathing response is needed.

I was really getting nervous until I saw that California is in the crosshairs. I live on the East Coast. Whew!
I wonder how old that b&w Israeli-Palestinian conflict stock footage is. Late '70s?
It's definitely not the Taliban or Al-Qaeda.

Someonw needs to use the exact same music that is used in the video but edit in the Republicans walking out (or as I should say walking in lock step) and moving together compared to the armies and people of the Nazi's who used propaganda to curry national sentiment.
Come on is there any doubt that the Republicans in many cases would rather suppress honest discourse even within their own party to show that they are all in agreement. Their methods are quite fascistic, whatever one says they all say. They do not like differences, they like unity from the top down and anybody who doesn't agree with them must be a liberal, conspiracy theorist, socialist, terrorist sympathizer etc. You better not vote democratic or you will die mentality is a disgrace to Americans, its a disgrace to humanity, and its a disgrace to freedom.

The republicans demonstrate once again that their greatest fear is: brown people with guns.

As usual, the Republicans have conveniently ignored the fact that the NSA program was (and probably still is)collecting virtually all the internet traffic going through the US -- with the illegal assistance of the telecoms they now want to immunize for whatever exactly they did. See and would help.
It is difficult to understand how the NSA could possibly find any terrorist communications in that much data; it's like looking for a needle in a Mt. Everest size pile of hay. One can only wonder how many millions of dollars the government has wasted on this effort.
Of course, it could be that all those e mails from deceased Nigerian dictators' relatives and ads for "performance enhancing" products are part of a diabolical two prong terrorist plot. Prong one is to cripple the web by burdening it with spam; prong two is to have a way to communicate about upcoming attacks in code. (Ever wonder about all those strange misspellings of Viagra?) Plus, the terrorists get the added benefit of funding their program and weakening the US economy by defrauding gullible Americans.
The Democrats have enough material here to come up with a really entertaining ad.
By the way, in a recent issue of a magazine put out by the Cato Foundation (not exactly a far left think tank) I read that in a typical year, more Americans die from peanuts than from terrorism, and even in 2001, more died from the flu than terrorism. Also, it is worth noting that the number of children killed by gun violence in the US every year is as high as the number of people killed on 9/11. It really is time for Americans to have leaders who help us put the dangers in the "dangerous" world into some reasonable perspective, instead of using fear tactics for political advantage.

Fuck em! Who cares what they say anyway? They're nothing but a bunch of corrupt Republican politicians diverting public attention away from their crimes and failures.
The Democrats have nothing to fear if they just clearly and simply point out the truth which, coincidentally, is on their side.
1. The laws provisions are in effect for another year.
2. The GOP doesn't give one crap about public safety, it's all about giving immunity to big companies who have violated federal law by spying on US citizens without a warrant or approval of the courts. Every school child knows you can't just spy on citizens without getting permission and it's been that way for over 200 years.
3. The GOP is a party so corrupt and so incompetent (X number of Congressional Republicans are now under investigation, indictment, been convicted or have resigned in disgrace over the past X number of years) and they are desperate to have voters forget about their shameful misdeeds and crimes.
Pretty simple stuff. One wonders why the pantywaist Democrats in the US Senate are so spineless that they went along with that dog of a bill at all.

But wait.
According to Obama, the Dems are supposed to unite with the Republicans to change Washington.
Right?

This type of fear-mongering is effective. I worry that the Democratic party will yet again make the mistake of assuming people will not be swayed by fear mongering. This country voted for George Bush twice and while Bush's approval ratings are abysmal, so are those of the Democratic-led Congress. People may not associate McCain with Bush. Americans love a "hero" and "straight shooter".
Everyone who is not fooled by this type of ad is already prepared to vote Democratic no matter what.
Howard Dean better have a game plan.

I like how we're supposed to be afraid of some Arabs waving AK-47's some 10,000+ miles away. Frankly with all the high school and college shootings we've had, maybe we should be more concerned about real threats closer to home.
