Hillary Wins Oklahoma And Tennessee

The networks call both states for Hillary.

Oklahoma exit polls here.

The Hillary camp is spinning these wins as proof that Obama isn't the candidate with the advantage in the red states. From their campaign:

For months, the Obama campaign has been spinning that they have a monopoly on red states; tonight we showed that they don’t.

With these first two victories, Hillary Clinton has demonstrated that she can compete and win in red states.

No surprise there, I used to live in OK, they are racist as hell.

With all of the states tonight and the rush to declare winners with no or little votes counted, I'm waiting to see which network gets stung first by predicting an incorrect winner.

lame. that is some weaksauce spin. not feeling the hillmentum.

But seriously, why is Hillary Clinton doing so well in Oklahoma?

Because they like it when a Big Wind comes sweeping down the plain.

Sen Clinton's "I can win in red states" is as silly as Chris Matthews waxing apoplectic about McCain only winning states which usually go to the Democrats in the general. Is not the purpose of a primary to select a candidate From Each Party, regardless of how the state usually comes out in the general?

Either Dem would do badly in OK, and any Rep would do badly in MA.
Or is that too simple a concept for Tweety?

Both TN and OK are adjoining states to ARK, that explains a part of it.

Well, in the Tulsa area it seems that HRC has sent at least a couple fliers out. Nothing from Obama.

Now, Huck has been doing the robocalls here.
However, HRC might want to say she can carry a red state, but from what I have overheard Edwards would have been the most viable in that regard (Oklahoma Republican voters here seem to really, I mean really, hate HRC).

I am watching MSNBC and I want to know if Hillary wins Mass. will Chris Matthews ask Ted Kennedy and John Kerry will they vote their super delegate vote for Clinton. He just pressed Senator Menendez from New Jersey about it. I doubt he will...shame on Chris Matthews.

More of my age-based analysis that is at least as valid as assuming widespread racism. I had no idea OK dems were so incredibly old.
18-29 = 9%
30-44 = 19%
44-59 = 27%
60+ = 44% (!)
were all the polling places in retirement homes?

Vaughan - because we here in OK lean more moderate to conservative, even among our Democrats. She's been expected to win here for a while, so no shock.

But yes, that campaign spin is lame. Obama's claim has been that he can reach out to Red State *Republicans and Independents* better than Clinton, not that he can snag more Blue Dog Democrats.

Anyone who votes for Clinton is called a racist. How shameful. Can someone not like another candidate without hearing that "word" thrown at them?

Oklahoma is the only state that Obama didn't campaign in. It's a small state that has been strong for Clinton for a long time (I don't know why, proximity to Arkansas?), so the campaign made a decision not to even try for it.

Clinton's claim, by the way, is specious. Obama's argument is that she can't win red states because she can't attract independents and republicans; thus she loses red states b/c they have fewer democrats. Winning democrats in red states, as Clinton has done, does nothing to demonstrate that she can win enough indies and repubs to win the general elections in red states.

Junionman,

I do not think racism had that much play here (Tulsa), while that can be a complicated topic in OK, I think these results are more of a function of targeted reminders by HRC of retirement concerns (looking at the mailing I have).

anyones knows the delegate count thus far?

Can someone explain to me how they can call a state with only 1 or 2% reporting? Just trying to figure this out.

I understand the complications. I just get so tired of reading these posts and people make this random accusation of racism. It is not helping anyone, in fact it inflames and actually promotes the very idea of racism.

Clinton voters are pro-plutocratic fascism . . . Racism is simply an ecomonic outcome . . . to those who shun flesh and blood humans for the favor of legal contructs, all flavors of the human race is an after thought.

Don't underestimate the pull of the Clintons on the neighoring states to Arkansas, that partially explains TN and Oklahoma being so strong for HRC.

That'll help her in Missouri too.

MSNBC just called Mass for Clinton.

Of course, you have Boren in there, too.
But since we are on Oklahoma I over-heard a conversation that went like this:

Setting: Diner, a father with his two young children.
Child 1(daughter) : I would vote for HRC, if I could. Who would you vote for dad?
Dad: Well, our family is Republican…
Child 2: What does that mean?
Dad: Two parties etc…(plays the god card).
% Now the interesting part
Dad:…but Obama would be closer to our vote.

That is what I found interesting. Of course one conversation, hardly makes a meaningful sample.
