Hillary Bloodletting Continues: Two More Staffers Out
With Hillary's losses tonight, two more Hillaryland staffers have left the campaign: Kevin Thurman and Crystal Patterson, two key players from the Hillary campaign's Internet team. Hillary campaign internet guru Peter Daou sends me this:
"As part of the expansion of our Internet department following a tremendously successful month online, we will be adding 4 new staffers, two of whom will replace Kevin Thurman and Crystal Patterson, who moved on to new positions. Kevin and Crystal have been valued members of our team and we are grateful to them for their contribution to the campaign."
While those two staffers are out, Daou is apparently expanding the online department in the wake of their post-Super Tuesday online fundraising successes.

Hillary could not be bothered to show up for the Telecom vote. She spent the day in a TV studio doing remote interviews to local TV stations in Ohio and Texas.
She will get to that Fighting the Republican Dragons bit, after she tends to the really important stuff such as talking to talking heads about two primaries that are three weeks away.
She did manage to show up when Bush/Cheney/McCain/Lieberman/Kyl needed her vote on the Greenlight to attack Iran.

CNN's exits project Maryland, 62-38 Obama.
So, adding it up, we get roughly:
Virginia delegates, 53-30.
Maryland delegates, 43-27.
DC delegates: ?
As things stand, Obama looks to add at least 39 delegates to his margin. Throw in DC, which he'll take by at least 10-5, and you've got a bare minimum 44 pledged delegate gap on the evening. The race for pledged delegates, folks, is over in all but name.

If I were her, and I said this at the time, I would have totally shaken up the campaign after the iowa thumping and changed the message and campaign big time. Instead they got into race baiting and nasty politics. And, what did that get them? Zippo. Nonetheless, a shake-up would have sent a message to the money people and might have motivated people. Why are there so many people here taking so much joy from other people losing their jobs?
Did they kick your puppy or something?
February 13, 2008 12:00 AM | Reply | Permalink
Buddy was a puppy once, and what he got was far worse than kicked. But I owe my longevity to Ms. Curry, and a little known appropriation, intended to provide relief to displaced mascots. In my case, a weekly visit to Dr. Shapiro, mainly to talk about the things I saw and did while in the White House. Dr. Shapiro seemed to think that Buddy’s problems stemmed from his childhood. Only Buddy hadn’t had that idealized world; he had had to go to work. Buddy had that innate quality which makes all dogs to go to heaven, but it was at times supplanted by the White House rewards system. After consuming his first (sofa) pillow, Buddy was handed a Milkbone Dog Biscuit; he ate his second pillow with similar results, and received yet another treat.
It was during the Clinton’s second term, at the traditional Easter Egg Roll, a public event for children between the ages of three and six, and only days before Buddy was scheduled to be neutered. I was keeping an eye on Buddy, who sat amongst a group of parents and children on the South Lawn. It was a beautiful spring day and everything was going a little too smoothly. Janet Reno was reading from her favorite book, Queen Janet From The Bunny Planet. Art Garfunkel was about to perform the theme song from his latest children’s album, Why Paul Simon Is A Idiot. And I could see the wheels turning; with Buddy, it was never a question of if, it was always a question of when.
As fate would have it, a six year old who could have passed for sixteen, inserted a firecracker into an Easter Egg, produced a kitchen match and lit it. The fuse shorted, followed by a loud ker-pop, a shower of egg, and a howl that could be heard clear across the Potomac River. After a brief commotion and a negative damage assessment, Buddy was nowhere to be found. Bill Clinton credits himself with saying, “I couldn't figure out whether [the White House] was America’s most beautiful public housing or the crown jewel of the penal system.” One thing’s certain; Buddy couldn’t breach the perimeter fence. He was collared and subjected to the ultimate K-9 humiliation, a tubful of soapsuds – he could run, but he couldn’t hide.
Dr. Shapiro defines Buddy’s time, as before and after he was spayed. But as far as I’m concerned, what you never had, you never miss. The upshot of course, is that for whatever reason, Buddy often acted in an inappropriate manner with predictable results, but expected and often got a reward. He could pull it off, because after all he was your best friend. Buddy also had trouble with the principle of causation, as evidenced by his behavior after the infamous Easter Egg incident. From that day forward whenever anyone lit a match, Buddy would flee the room. Candles and cigars induced panic. Conclusion: Buddy had developed a sudden aversion to tobacco products, and fine dining.
Congratulations Barack Obama. Much Love, Betty & Socks

It is clear that Hillary could easily have started an Internet-based, low-average-contribution fundraising campaign, along the proven Dean/Obama model, months if not years ago. Maybe she was waiting for the general election. She finally went this route after Super Tuesday, when she announced that she had "loaned" her campaign $5 million, and it was immediately successful; but by then, perhaps, "immediately" was too late.
Was it the Clintons' hubris or Terry McAuliffe's "Not Invented Here" mentality that doomed HRC's campaign? (Hillary, note to self for next Senate run: "Just because we know how to shake the big trees for money doesn't mean we need ignore the small donors.")
Obviously, it would be far better to pay these mid-level staffers for another few weeks -- or years -- rather than let slip another sign of internal division at this critical juncture. A serious unforced error on HRC's part.

Nobody should discount the online operations of the opposition when it comes to activism. They actually have an effective and well-greased communication network in place for activities.
The recent battle in Operation NBC was a example of grassroots efforts (coordinated by Field Marshall Taylor) to soften up the targets enough for the Clintons to mount up and ride on to victory. The marshies were on the pimp thingie immediately and went right to work. FOX is an ally of sorts in this long campaign against NBC.
I wonder who the FNGuys are.
If they're reving up for Operation Take Down the infrastructure is in place for them to move whatever it is they think they have re Rezko and Kenya. Tom Brokaw even mentioned that a new area of "concern" were some of the folks Obama worked with when he was learning to organize in Chicago.

The deaparture of Patti Solis Doyle, who only real qualification was loyalty to Hillary Clinton, shows a Bush-style tendancy to value loyalty over competence and the self-serving filters and assurances of a sycophant over the varnished TRUTH.
The shameful race baiting by Bill Clinton and other Hillary surrogates clearly reflects the "win at any cost," "for me or your my enemy", "who cares about the party and the nation, it's all about me" approach to politics.
The refusal to make tax returns public, make the donors to the Clinton Library and "Foundation" public, open the archives of her years as First Lady, so we can see for our selves how involved she was in leadership, including the health care fiasco, the failed attorney general nominations, the use of FBI records of opponents, the Clinton pardons, and on and on
When Hillary tells us
that "the changes in campaign leadership have no reals significance,"
that she can assure the nation that "there will be no more personal or financial scandals involving Bill,"
that she has 35 years of experience working for children and change,
that she will be ready day one,
Does she really expect us to believe what she says about Iraq, healthcare, the mortaage crisis, iimigration, and on.
Hillary does not have the character and integrity, experience, or judgment we need in a president.
