Hillary And Obama Square Off In Opening Statements
It needs to be stressed, in watching the debate, that the Hillary camp's belief is that when the two candidates are seated side by side discussing the issues she emerges as the clear victor.
In their opening statements, both sides lay out their messages, as clearly as possible. Hillary plays the work horse card: "There is a lot of work ahead. I offer a lifetime of experience and proven results."
Obama sounds a front-runner's note, saying again that he respects his opponent: "It's a great honor to share the stage again with Senator Clinton." But reiterates that he's the true history-changing figure. More coming.

Well, you can't be elected President unless you pledge to turn Cuba back into a U.S. controlled plantation.
Goes with the territory.

I've hoped Barack would learn to better debate, as he doesn't debate nearly as well as Hillary. She's doing it again tonight: more focused, more energetic, more determined, more passionate, and generally more lucid. I don't have to strain to understand her; I do have to make an effort to get what Barack is saying.
But Barack ~is~ doing something differently, and I'm not sure how I would describe it. It's not that he's ignoring Hillary -- he clearly is not -- but he's giving little or no importance to her debate. It's not about being aloof. Neither is he being patronising. He just seems to be doing his own thing -- regardless of whatever Hillary may be doing. It's as though he's not debating at all. He's just doing his thing -- and debate isn't one of them.
Ten minutes later ... oh, boy, not only did he just cream her on "plagiarism," but now she's putting her foot deeper into it.
