Zogby: McCain Has Slim Lead In Florida
The final Zogby poll of the Florida primary gives John McCain an apparent lead in the Republican race, though like practically all other polls the race is still too close to call. Here are the numbers, compared to yesterday's release:
McCain 35% (+2)
Romney 31% (+1)
Giuliani 13% (-1)
Huckabee 13% (+2)
Paul 2% (+0)

Sen. Barack Obama refused to make himself available to greet Sen. Hillary
Clinton before the speech.
When members of the Senate entered the chamber, Obama came in before Clinton
. He went out of his way to greet as many House members as possible and
walked halfway across the chamber to greet members of the Supreme Court, the
president's cabinet, the military joint chiefs.
That made what happened next even more striking. Obama returned to stand by
his seat next to Sen. Edward Kennedy.
As Clinton approached, Kennedy made sure to make eye contact and indicated
he wanted to shake her hand. Clinton leaned towards Kennedy over a row of
seats and Kennedy leaned in towards her. They shook hands.
Obama stood icily staring at Clinton during this, then turned his back and
stepped a few feet away. Kennedy may've wanted to make peace with Clinton
but Obama clearly wanted no part of that.
The sense in the press gallery was that Obama didn't cover himself in glory.
Someone even used the word "childish." (Not this writer.) Judging by how
much conversation there was about this brush off in the press gallery,
Americans will be hearing a lot more about this tomorrow and in coming days.

The relationship began to change, according to several Democrats who are friendly to both senators, when Mr. Obama began musing aloud about a presidential bid. The day he opened his exploratory committee, several Senate observers said, he extended his hand and said hello on the Senate floor. She breezed by him, offering a cool stare.
So I'm not sure the Hillary Noise Machine really wants to go there.
nogop wrote on January 29, 2008 9:14 AM:So Hillary snubbed Obama first, Obama had to snub her back? How mature is that?
coyote wrote on January 29, 2008 9:17 AM:It's been a mutual snub since Hillary first acted like a jackass. So how mature is that of Hillary?
Liam wrote on January 29, 2008 9:19 AM:No wonder the MSM is held in such low regard, and newspapers are in trouble; they were there to cover the State of the Union by the President of the USA, and this Frank chap leads with a bit of speculative snub gossip.
Did Hillary make herself available to Senator Obama, or was he supposed to behave like a supplicant and bow to her?
You stated that Senator Kennedy was the one who reached out to Hillary, so apparently she was not doing the reaching out, and you want to lay all the blame on Senator Obama!
Why did she not approach Senators Kennedy and Obama. Why does she get a pass.
She claims that she is a strong independent person, so why are you treating her like some Victorian era damsel who must be treated like a shrinking violet. Did she reach out to Senator Obama?. The answer is no, so was she snubbing him? You can not have it both ways, less than perfectly Mr. Frank.
So Obama can never do anything wrong or improper. He is either snubbed or wronged. He is totally a victim and/or saint. I thought Obama was supposed to be BETTER than Hillary. How funny is that? I don't think Ican get myself to vote for any of these clowns.
coyote wrote on January 29, 2008 9:29 AM:You're right, nogop--Hillary can and has been doing a lot to try to bring Obama down to her level. That's predictable, given the type of campaign Obama is running. But it's not going to serve Hillary very well in the long run, if she wins the nomination.
Darrell wrote on January 29, 2008 9:42 AM:GO HILLARY!!
Obama won south carolina by 28 points
Hillary is going to win florida by more than 30 points:)
GO HILLARY
May be no delegate seats in florida, want matter.... florida will help other states vote for hillary and turn obama off:)
But Obama's behavior is not gracious, especially if he claims that he is a uniter and will work with everyone. Hillary is not really his enemy. It all came across as arrogant and immature. It won't play well with women. I am thinking of switching party to GOP, so no more nogop.
coyote wrote on January 29, 2008 9:52 AM:So you're going to switch parties because Hillary and Obama don't like each other? Have you noticed how the Republican candidates feel about each other?
nogop wrote on January 29, 2008 10:05 AM:You guys are good at interpreting other people's words. Really, Obama's supporters probably annoy people as much as Bill Clinton does.
I don't support Obama because I don't think he is qualified and all the empty words don't mean much to me. He is not better than Hillary. If he is easily brought down to Hillary's level, how do you he will be whoever he claims to be? It's all wishful thinking. How to make the change? By getting supporting from the status quo that he has been criticizing? By all the talking? The speeches are well written, but so what? I've heard some pretty good motivation speeches too.
I was leaning Hillary and I may still vote for her next Tuesday. I am leaning Romney now because economy is the most important thing and he or Hillary probably would be able to do better job than the empty-word-change person.

besides, what is all this experience we keep hearing about? there seems to be a disconnect... 35 years experience? what was she doing that was so meaningful at 25? (as pointed out by other TPM readers.
Amy wrote on January 29, 2008 10:34 AM:Grow up. All of you, please, grow up. Campaigns are nasty. They are especially nasty when there are those who have an overwhelming sense of entitlement to the Presidency. Obama's reaction reveals nothing of how he would react to leaders on the other side of the world.
Bret wrote on January 29, 2008 10:46 AM:Why are Obama's supporters so hateful?
Alicia wrote on January 29, 2008 10:46 AM:They ignored each other! Who cares? No one to blame here. It's all fake anyways when they smile at each other. So they both did each other a favor. Let's act real. Ignoring one person does not mean you cannot be a uniter.
Hillary will be a great president. So will Barack. Unfortunately they have to differentiate each other in order to win.
Everybody chill out and get out and vote for your candidate.
Darrel,
It is good to see the enthusiastic support for Clinton to WINce the Republican nomination for President. Go Darrel!

People who claim that Sen Obama is an all hat no cattle big talker with no substanitive policy proposals obviosly did not listen to his acceptance speach in South Carolina or to Sen Kenedy's endorsement. The SC speach was a 17 minuet speach and 14 minuets of it were one policy proposal after another, Pay teachers more, build more schools, cut taxes for the middleclass, end the tax breaks for offshoring, etc, etc. Sen Kenedy's speach listed several important peices of legilation and credited Sen Obama with being key to their passage. If you think that he has no policy behind his rhetoric just click the links in the pane to the right of this one.

Most people I know are not paying attention to the nitty-gritty insider gossip. I have spoken to my friends about the racial stuff coming from the Clinton campaign, but they don't know much about it.

How mature is it that you're dwelling on handshakes? Grow up folks. We're talking about nominating someone to become president of the United States. I couldn't give a ratt's a$$ about whether or not the two like each other or are able to make pleasantries for the sake of the cameras. Sheesh!

Bret, it's not a one-way thing. C'mon, read the posts and you'll find plenty of hateful Clinton supporters. This is an open forum, and there are always going to be loudmouths, bad-eggs, and cynics in every crowd.
Plus, keep in mind, there are quite a few professional political operatives trolling the blogsphere and comment-threads of news stories, all pretending to be a supporter of candidate A, but really a supporter of candidate B - or even an operative from the other party. Remember that old saying: "Don't believe half of what you see and none of what you hear." Don't let 'em pull your strings or push your buttons.
One might even wonder if you're one of 'em? ;-)

That's pretty ironic for a name like "nogop"... real backbone there "nogop".
Speaking of political operatives, I hope the GOP isn't paying you much because your arguments hold up about as well as a New Orleans levee in a hurricane.
