Source: Dodd Will Pull Out Of Campaign Tonight

A source close to Chris Dodd's campaign tells me that he's expected to drop out of the race later tonight.

Huge huge huge: Turnout for Dems appears to be 220,000! As for Dodd's dropping out, it frees up the firefighter's union... and could push Teddy Kennedy to endorse.

so goes my true number one choice for President of the United States of America
thank you Chris!

You know, it's too bad. I really like Chris Dodd. His efforts on telecom immunity have been wonderful.

Dodd is a good man. But he'll be needed in the senate.

Marilyn Brown wrote on January 3, 2008 11:04 PM:

Let's all encourage Sen. Dodd to run for Senate Majority Leader. He has a backbone...unlike Reid. I think he would be an outstanding addition!! We need him!!!

Keith wrote on January 3, 2008 11:06 PM:

I hope he becomes Senate Majority Leader.

Third Place for Mrs. Bill
We just turned out the incumbent

Live by inevitability die by it

No coronations in the Democratic Party

Obama 38 Edwards 30 Clinton 29 Turnout Demo Caucuses 2004 - 125,000 Turnout 2008 - 220,000 Obama won on EVERY issue in entrance poll. Obama beat Clinton AMONG WOMEN among INDEPENDENTS among DEMOCRATS. Obama brought independents and new voters to the Democratic party and THAT is the story of tonight and the lesson for Dems nationwide

Too bad, this country doesn't care about what this country was supposed to be based upon - like The Constitution of the United States of America. Anyone want a real Patriot to run as VP?

Marilyn, I like it, I like it! Takes some of the sting away, too.

Tendrin wrote on January 3, 2008 11:09 PM:

Damn right. Dodd as majority leader? If he keeps up his efforts as they are now?

Hell.

Yes.

We Dems have had an embarrassment of riches in the choice of outstanding candidates we've had this year. I'm sorry to see Dodd drop out - he's been a principled and sensible Democratic voice in this race.

The media just didn't treat Dodd - and Biden and Richardson, for that matter - fairly. The amount of coverage they received in the msm was paltry, and I'm sure this had a lot to do with this outcome. I saw Dodd in his interview a few months ago with Charlie Rose and was impressed. I hope there will be a place for him in our new Democratic President's administration.

Get rid of Harry? Oh hell yes. Dodd will hopefully run for relection in his state. He is a wonderful voice and he has a big pair of nads, which he showed by standing up to the Telco's..unlike the current Maj. leader.

Count me in for the Majority Leader train. Dodd has done well in the last couple months.

Looks like Biden is about to join him on the sidelines.

We'll miss ya Joe.

I contributed to Dodd's campaign purely because he has been so stand-up in opposing FISA telecom immunity. I hope that he will continue to fight the good fight!

Biden and Dodd were both excellent candidates and ran good campaigns. I'm not sure why they never quite caught on, but I suspect it is more a reflection of the times than anything about them, and I look forward to their continued service in the Senate.

57% of the youth vote tonight went to Obama*..hopefully that signals a change that is both positive and hopeful!

*This according to the MSNBC pundits ;p

I'll be honest. I could never get behind Dodd. Everytime I hear his name, a whisper in my head says, "Banking Lobby". But he acquitted himself in my eyes in a huge way with his stand against the tel-com amnesty bill. He stood up when it really mattered, and for that, he gets my respect.

Biden was probably my second choice this race. Although I don't 100% agree with his ideas on what to do with Iraq, I thought he gave solid reasons behind everything he thought, and he was never afraid to come out and explain in detail exactly what he thought about something. Always interesting and quirky, Biden seems to truly attempt to do the right thing. I hope he gets a good look at a Cabinet position from whomever wins the nomination.
