Romney Pulls Ads In South Carolina, Florida
Mitt Romney's back is clearly against the wall after his losses in Iowa and New Hampshire, and he's become more choosy about where he's spending his money. The campaign is now pulling their ads in South Carolina and Florida.
Instead, Romney will be focusing all those resources on next week's primary in Michigan, the state where Romney was born and raised, and where his late father was governor. "We feel the best strategy is to focus our paid messaging in Michigan," Romney spokesman Kevin Madden told the Associated Press.

Wasn't Romney born in Mexico? (or was that his dad?).

Doesn't this decision run directly counter to some of the things they point out in the memo from the previous post? They point out that McCain will be hurt by not having indies available in closed primaries from here on out, and that in the open primaries, indies will mostly choose to vote on the Dem side. OK, both true as a general point, but NEITHER of them are going to be true in...um...Michigan!
I'm still in the "Mittmentum by default" camp as far as predicting who'll get the GOP nomination, but this doesn't inspire a whole lot of confidence. Then again, they know how their resources map out vis-a-vis the calendar far better than I do, so maybe this really is their best shot, and they have to spin things anyway they can while hoping that nobody notices the contradictions.

Romney's father was born in Mexico.
FWIW, John McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone.

Didn't Romney come in second in both IA and NH and is head of the delegate count as a result? Conceivably, if he continues to come in second regardless of who "wins" each state Romney will have the most delegates, right?

Well, conceivably, but only if the first places are taken by sufficiently different candidates.

Sounds like he is giving up. He's not exactly hurting for money (even if he has to use some of his own.) You really need to compete everywhere there is a primary. Picking your states just sets expectations too high that you'll win those states you've targeted. Ask Rudy how that is working out for him ...

Romney has NO CHANCE in Michigan. What's the unemployment rate there like? Huckabee's already running ads using the line that people want a president more like the guy the work with, rather than like the "guy who laid them off". Direct reference to Romney's Bain Capital past.
He's toast. Buh-bye.
