Rasmussen: Romney Leads In Florida

A new Rasmussen poll in Florida shows that Mitt Romney's intense campaigning (and TV advertising) here might be paying off. Here are the numbers, compared to last week's poll:

Romney 25% (+7)
McCain 20% (+1)
Giuliani 19% (+1)
Huckabee 13% (-4)
Thompson 12% (+1)
Paul 5% (+0)

Can Mitt keep it up, or will John McCain be able to ride the momentum from his South Carolina victory? A win here would be big for the delegate count — the Florida primary is winner-take-all.

I haven't a clue what Romney has in regard to national security credentials, economic plans, or an energy policy.

At least McCain seems sound in the above areas.

If Mit is advocating more of the management style of 'big business' squeezing the last drop out of the American middle class, if he is the apologist for the bad managemnt that has created the sub-prime fisaco and that debt-debacle, then I would rate my support as: McCain, Huckabee, and then MIT and hope the convention requires that he state his policies.

"For too long, America has been entangled with and dependent on foreign suppliers of oil. As long as America imports much of our oil from unstable regions and countries around the world, our national security and economic prosperity is threatened. Because energy independence is crucial to our economy and our national security, we must establish it as a top administration priority, and lead the U.S. to a future with affordable and secure energy."

Sounds good MIT but where might I ask is the details?

If the above is true, then do you support targeted tax cuts for this plan and whom would the tax cuts go to?

Romney ought to give FL an answer as it is the second most favorable state for residential rooftop solar energy in our nation.

I'm waiting for a reporter to ask a question that gets a detailed answer, and why after all the years of GOP control of government should we believe MIT now?

That would be a huge win for Mitt. Florida will go a long way towards deciding who wins the Republican nomination.

user-pic

Wow, Giuliani really is just going to go down in flames, huh? I guess that will do one thing to shift the dynamic in the GOP race.

Mitt has taken more crap from the media over the past few months than any other candidate, but it all just seems to just roll off him as he focuses on racking up delegates. As good as current democrats poll against him, the guy should not be underestimated.

Mit says: Big Business acted with moral hazard in lending and financing, my plan is to reward them to do so, I propose feeding my crony business associates the seedcorn in a crack-pipe fashion instead of planting the seeds of real growth, a crack-pipe in every pot said MIT!

Romney Unveils Stimulus Package
By GLEN JOHNSON – 1 day ago

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP)

The big-ticket item is a proposal to allow any business to write off 100 percent of new equipment purchases for the next two years, retroactive to Jan. 1. It carries an estimated price tag of $81 billion in 2008.

In addition, the tax rate on businesses would be cut from 35 percent to 20 percent over two years, with the first 10-percent cut this year costing $51 billion.

Individuals, meanwhile, would benefit from a proposal to reduce the lowest income tax rate from 10 percent to 7.5 percent, which would cost an estimated $28 billion.

The plan also calls for instituting that rate for 2007 earnings, meaning those earning less than $97,500 — the cutoff point for contributing to the Social Security tax fund — would receive a rebate of about $400 when they file tax returns this winter.

That change would cost $22 billion in 2008, and be coupled with an elimination of Social Security payroll taxes for workers over 65 that would cost $20 billion and equally benefit businesses and individuals.

Coupled with a $32 billion program Romney has already proposed to eliminate taxes on all savings for those making under $200,000 annually, the package costs $233 billion — or about 1.7 percent of the gross domestic product.

McCain is a disaster on economic policies. He has, time-and-again, been against economic policies in the Clinton and Bush administrations that have actually benefited the economy.

His foreign policy is straight out the Joseph Lieberman handbook and what is his energy policy again?

McCain has nothing on Romney, or any other Republican. That's why they are struggling to come up with a candidate. You'll see 3 guys fighting for every state through Super Tuesday. Perhaps only then will the nominee become clear.

I'm banking on a brokered convention for both sides. Won't that be an interesting civics lesson!

Listen to my words

Romney belongs to a cult and is a hudge phoney.

But the people in florida who don't know how to read a ballot just may vote for the guy

user-pic

So..............the many Jews in Florida don't like Huckabee cramming Christ down their throats?

Who'd a thunk it?

I hope Rudy loses, but I also hope Romney burns out as well. McCain is the lesser evil among all of the Republicans. I sincerely hope a Democrat is our next president, but if not, McCain is the only Republican who may not be a complete disaster, especially if he picks a moderate VP.

Guiliani, Romney, or Huckabee win and I may move to Canada.

However, one point no one has been making is how the Democratic Party has been so short-sighted in stripping delegates from the states who moved up their primary. People are tired of Iowa and New Hampshire being so important in the US Presidential election. I think a wide open race going into super tuesday is a good thing. Michigan and Florida Democratic Party voters may be pissed off in November...

I'm kinda hoping Rudy 9iu11iani wins in Florida, but with Romney a close second, Huckabee in third; just to continue to toss spanners in the GOP works. Think of the weirdness which would ensue from having four different winners in seven contests. If Giuliani loses big in Florida after sinking lots of time and money into the contest there, he's pretty much done; but a win there keeps him in the race at least a little longer.

The media has already picked John McCain. Mitt Romney is being attacked for flip flopping but his rivals have changed their positions on most of the major issues recently as well. McCain didnt used to support overturning Roe, now he does. He favoured amnesty, now he says it needs to wait ( but still supports it). McCain was one of two republicans who opposed the Bush tax cuts but now wants them extended. Huckabee changed his position on immigration recently and the cuban embargo recently too.

user-pic

I would not put much into these polls. I think it may be close with mccain and giuliani but I'm not so certain of Mit Romney. His economic push is a bit weak for me. Rudy's got the early votes and that may just push him to the top.

user-pic

Heres another point. I've noticed that only the Mason Dixon and Reuters polls have been accurate so far in the other primaries that are already over. Those two seemed to be right on where as the others have been way off. I"m looking for the latest Mason dixon and Reuter polls to come out.

I'm amazed at the negative comments for Mitt here. The man has an incredible resume of success in multiple arenas, which frankly I find refreshing after the presidential candidates we've been seeing for the last long, long while. I suppose we can elect a president based on his/her religious views, speaking ability, gender/race, party affiliation, etc, but why not also consider whether he/she is actually competent? By all indications, Mitt is very competent and a good man to boot. Seems to make sense.

Anyone who thinks McCain (or any other candidate) has a better idea about the economy than a co-founder of Bain should seriously re-consider.

McCain is a FRAUD. I’m from Arizona and I even have friends that worked for him and they say he’s a FRAUD JERK OLD IDIOT .

He’s a corporate whore like Ted “Chapaquidick Glug-Glug” Kennedy. He wants to send ALL of our young men to the other side of the world to die for his pet war projects and bring every damn murderous Mexican illegal into our country and let ‘em stay forever under his Comprehensive Immigration CLOAK.

If it smells like AMNESTY – it is AMNESTY. He wants the filthy Mexicans and cheap labor IT etc , to have ALL of our middle class jobs and, since all young American will be dying on the other side of the world, these low-life scum bags might just as well have their women too.

Remember The Alamo! Would Sam Houston and Davy Crockett vote for AMNESTY? Have we not learned anything from our history?

Do we not care about the quality of our American culture? The bleeding-heart liberals like McCain won’t become conservative and start doing what’s right until one of their new-style Americans (MS 13 types) rape and sodomize his wife, daughter and dog.
McCain and the other elitist democrats don’t give a rat’s ass about the American culture, only about the American corporations operating off-shore because that’s where these bastards can hide their bribes and payoffs without us seeing them.

It’s time for America to demand better. Besides, these Mexican scumbags and their whore wives are just UGLY! Mexico has always been our ENEMY and they always will be. Se hable your freekin ass Jose. Get out of our country and STAY OUT!

Isn't it interesting that Mitt Romney says he is TOTALLY AGAINST POLYGAMY - yet he lives his life looking forward to an afterlife where he'll be a SUPER POLYGAMIST with his own planet and his own Goddess Wives.

Mormon men are taught that after death (and if they are righteous) they will live forever as GODS over THEIR OWN PLANET - having unlimited sexual relations with MULTIPLE GODDESS WIVES so as to populate their own planet.

How can Mitt Romney say he is against something he believes is one of the greatest rewards in the afterlife. DO YOU really want a PRESIDENT who disavows something in his earthly life that he covets and aspires to in the afterlife?

Are you aware that Mitt Romney has performed death oath rituals hundreds of times in which he has drawn his thumb across his throat from side to side as if he were slitting his own throat and another where he has drawn his thumb across his abdomen as if he were disemboweling himself?

I am a former Mormon. I graduated from BYU. I was married in the Wash, DC temple.

I vehemently believe in freedom of religion. However, I am concerned that someone who professes questionable beliefs and who has participated in cult-like rituals involving grisly death-oath might become our President.

This information is not widely available to the general public. Mormons profess - what goes on in the temple is "sacred, not secret." Well if they are so sacred and "not secret" then why was I asked to make death oaths swearing I would not divulge what I had seen and experienced in the temple?

Visit my blog at http://justicefreedom4all.blogspot.com/ to see video re-enactments of the actual temple rituals and interviews with other individuals who also experienced the Mormon Temple rituals.

After participating in these rituals myself, I could no longer hold the Mormon faith in my heart and in my mind. As I exited the Wash, DC Mormon temple after going through the rituals for the first time I was asked by other Mormon's who accompanied me what I thought about what I had seen and experienced.

My response was that if those ceremonies/teaching were indeed of God, then I would rather go to hell with non-Mormons.

I feel that this information needs to be disseminated immediately. Voters must have this "sacred, not secret" information so they can make their own decisions about whether a practicing Mormon would be their choice under all
circumstances of national security.

How meaningful will an oath of office be for someone who makes death oaths to their God in the name of their religion?

And what I find even more frightening - why is mainstream media treating these Mormon issues like the naked Emperor is marching by?

I can longer live in fear of the millions of Mormons who have taken the death oaths. Citizens of America have a right to the facts.
