Polls: After Fred's Departure, Mittmentum Grows In Florida
Two new polls out today give Mitt Romney the lead in the Florida primary, an apparent sign that he's the biggest winner from Fred Thompson quitting the race.
From InsiderAdvantage: Romney 24%, Giuliani 19%, McCain 18%, Huckabee 12%.
From Public Policy Polling (D): Romney 28%, McCain 25%, Giuliani 19%, Huckabee 15%.
If Mitt Romney were to win Florida, he would not only take over 50 delegates in this winner-take-all contest — he would also throw John McCain right off his game a week before Super Tuesday.

Which is exactly why we don't want to let Mitt win in Florida. The unelectable Mormon will not be our nominee.

You underrate Mitt at your peril. He might not be the world's greatest candidate, but he seems pretty unflappable by this stage. Unlike any of the democratic candidates, he's been on the receiving end of brutal press coverage and will provide a viable alternative to people who can't vote for a Clinton this go around.

Steve-
Good point. Know your audience, however.
Of course, I don't understand why anyone would say Mitt was "unelectable." Just look at Massachusetts!

I also think many people are really underestimating Mitt Romney. They're doing this mostly on the basis of polls, but those are really more about name recognition. I think Romney will be a stronger opponent than McCain in the long run.

Are not most of these polls done on 3 or 4 day rolling average? I don't think what you see here is necessarily related to fred dropping out.

Bill Clinton
Karl Rove

They tear democrats apart for sport
so that a phoney like Romney can win
the white house!

Let's hear it for the Mittster! If nominated the fundies will sit it out for sure!
Of course if Bill Clinton keeps it up, the Dems may sit it out too! He hasn't learned a thing from his public humiliation. Once a liar, always a liar! The incredible shrinking ex-president.

I don't think Mitt is a stronger opponent than McCain, but the dynamics of the race would be totally different. And he can beat Clinton, although things become much, much closer.
Mitt's got baggage in Massachusetts, but no one has more baggage than Hillary. Mitt also has solid links to the East Coast, which may both help and hurt him. With Mitt, Michigan is in play, Jersey's in play, and maybe Massachusetts. Also due to his religion, Virginia is in play, but I can't see any purple-red state going to Clinton.
Because she's vicious, she'll definitely subtly go after his religion. While this probably won't help her vote-wise, it might have the interesting effect of suppressing some of the downballot Clinton drag that would otherwise hurt some house and Senate races by keeping some of that evangelical/redneck vote home. But he hasn't backed away from going negative himself, and it would be a very nasty campaign.
Obama on the other hand would crush Mitt. It could be the type of stunning, transformitive victory for the party that he was alluding to. Nobody's blowing out McCain in a general election, but has positioned himself to beat both. I honestly can't say the same for Clinton right now.

Well, I guess this is a good insurance policy inbcase we accidentally nominate HC. I was getting pretty gloomy looking at a Hillary-McCain matchup. But In a battle of two phonies, the phony might win. Our phony I mean.
Maybe Mittmentum can give us back what we've lost of late.

Don't let Romney get past the nominating stage to the finals in November. This is what happened with Bush. He never should have been allowed to get that far, and we've paid dearly for it. Drive a stake in the heart of Romney's candidacy, now.

Thank the Daily Kos for telling Democrats to vote for Mit instead of Kucinich.

Isn't it interesting that Mitt Romney says he is TOTALLY AGAINST POLYGAMY - yet he lives his life looking forward to an afterlife where he'll be a SUPER POLYGAMIST with his own planet and his own Goddess Wives.
Mormon men are taught that after death (and if they are righteous) they will live forever as GODS over THEIR OWN PLANET - having unlimited sexual relations with MULTIPLE GODDESS WIVES so as to populate their own planet.
How can Mitt Romney say he is against something he believes is one of the greatest rewards in the afterlife. DO YOU really want a PRESIDENT who disavows something in his earthly life that he covets and aspires to in the afterlife?
Are you aware that Mitt Romney has performed death oath rituals hundreds of times in which he has drawn his thumb across his throat from side to side as if he were slitting his own throat and another where he has drawn his thumb across his abdomen as if he were disemboweling himself?
I am a former Mormon. I graduated from BYU. I was married in the Wash, DC temple.
I vehemently believe in freedom of religion. However, I am concerned that someone who professes questionable beliefs and who has participated in cult-like rituals involving grisly death-oath might become our President.
This information is not widely available to the general public. Mormons profess - what goes on in the temple is "sacred, not secret." Well if they are so sacred and "not secret" then why was I asked to make death oaths swearing I would not divulge what I had seen and experienced in the temple?
Visit my blog at http://justicefreedom4all.blogspot.com/ to see video re-enactments of the actual temple rituals and interviews with other individuals who also experienced the Mormon Temple rituals.
After participating in these rituals myself, I could no longer hold the Mormon faith in my heart and in my mind. As I exited the Wash, DC Mormon temple after going through the rituals for the first time I was asked by other Mormon's who accompanied me what I thought about what I had seen and experienced.
My response was that if those ceremonies/teaching were indeed of God, then I would rather go to hell with non-Mormons.
I feel that this information needs to be disseminated immediately. Voters must have this "sacred, not secret" information so they can make their own decisions about whether a practicing Mormon would be their choice under all
circumstances of national security.
How meaningful will an oath of office be for someone who makes death oaths to their God in the name of their religion?
And what I find even more frightening - why is mainstream media treating these Mormon issues like the naked Emperor is marching by?
I can longer live in fear of the millions of Mormons who have taken the death oaths. Citizens of America have a right to the facts.
