Poll: McCain Led In South Carolina, But Before His Michigan Loss

The latest Zogby poll gives John McCain the lead in South Carolina. McCain has 29%, Mike Huckabee 23%, and Mitt Romney 13%, with all others trailing further behind.

The poll was taken before McCain's nine-point loss to Romney in Michigan, so the impact of that primary has yet to be measured. John Zogby predicted that McCain's loss will probably cut into his current lead in South Carolina.

I still think he'll take the nomination in the end.

I really hope he holds onto that lead. Obviously, he'll be the toughest to beat in November, especially compared to the Mittster. But at least we'll have someone who is sane to run against, rather than the God = Constitution rantings of Huckabee. Plus, McCain is pretty awesome on the environment.

What I found interesting was that Giuliani received only 3% of the MI vote.

NBC changed the criteria to only include candidates who had placed first, second or third in either the Iowa caucuses or New Hampshire primaries. The revised criteria excluded Mr. Kucinich, who has averaged 3 to 4 percent support in recent Nevada polls.

I hope that the GOP will exclude those candidates whom to date have not kept a 5% or greater turn-out in previous primaries.

I mean honestly, why should we have to listen to some lame ass candidate like Rudy when it is obvious that 'his strategery' is now bordering on the ludicrous, and his statements of winning in 50 states seems to be contradicted each time people actually get to vote.

...Ari Fleischer: "Great news for Rudy." (Currently in sixth place at 3%)

...Gloria Borger: "Just the scenario he [Rudy] wants..."

I don't know if McCain would be their strongest candidate. Repubs hate him for his immigration, campaign finance, tax, and environmental stances. He's flirted with switching parties and being John Kerry's running mate.

He has little money and the fatcats aren't likely to pony up for him for the general. Hillary already has outstripped everybody on both sides in insurance company donations for instance.

Why should we have to listen to some lame ass candidate like Rudy when it is obvious that 'his strategery' is now bordering on the ludicrous?

Why not? This guy was their frontrunner all summer. He tarnishes their brand and makes them all look worse with him on the stage next to him. He reminds voters that the Republican brand = incompetent cronyism.

Rudy is going to win Florida, and will win most of the Feb. 5th states. Then he'll win the nomination, and then the presidency. Here's why:

“Mayor Giuliani Inherited $2.3 Billion Budget Deficit And Turned It Into Multi-Billion Dollar Surplus.” (Steven Lee Myers,“A Deficit Revisited,” The New York Times, 7/31/94.)

NYC’s crime reduction under Giuliani was THREE TO SIX TIMES THE NATIONAL AVERAGE! His policies and steadfast determination, and yes, his love for New York City, turned NYC from a "failed" city into the safest big city in America.

I was in NYC on 9/11 - all I can say is that from great tragedies, sometimes great heroes emerge. Rudy was a hero to all New Yorkers, and the nation, on that day, and in the days that followed. Maybe some have forgotten how important it was to have strong and able leadership on 9/11. Why is leadership so important? Well, for comparison, just look at the disastrous tandem of Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco and their handling of the Katrina disaster in New Orleans.

But you know, given what we all know about international Islamic jihad, all I need to know about Rudy is this: in 1995, NYC hosted a big event at Lincoln Center for various foreign dignitaries. Guess who crashed the party? Yasser Arafat. Rudy’s response? HE THREW THE TERRORIST BASTARD OUT THE DOOR! When the city’s liberal elite cried foul, Giuliani replied, "I would not invite Yasser Arafat to anything, anywhere, anytime, anyplace. I don’t forget."

BE VOCAL, BE LOCAL – let’s get Rudy elected! The time to act is NOW!
