McCain Radio Ad: Republicans Can't Afford Mitt Romney
The ad wars in Florida sure have gotten rough. John McCain has a new radio ad ridiculing Romney's technocrat image, bringing up some "numbers" that Mitt might not like:
• Romney's health plan in Massachusetts has gone $400 million over budget.
• Romney raised taxes in Massachusetts by $700 million.
• Romney loses to Hillary Clinton by 16 points in a national poll.
"Republicans lose," the announcer says. "We can't afford Mitt Romney."
Late Update: A response from Romney spokesman Kevin Madden, via-email, is available after the jump.
Romney spokesman Kevin Madden:
"Senator McCain has, once again, launched a last-minute, negative ambush against Governor Romney with radio ads, flyers—you name it."This is just the McCain way. Senator McCain always sinks to a lower level and offers distortions and flailing attacks against his opponents when a campaign is close. His agitation is always on display when a race gets close.
"If you ever needed proof that the Washington insider with the wrong record on Republican policies is threatened by the new ideas and strong record of Governor Romney, now you have it."

At long last the truth about Mitt Romney is going out!

Republican bellicosity has reached it's peak in Florida. With right wing radio against McCain, a victory by Popeye in FL would really through things for a loop. WOOHOO!!
I fear neither of these jokers in the GE. Any Dem would have a field day with them, and even McCain, as long as they extended a large friendly hand to the press. That is where his strength lies.....

Funny, isn't it, how the Romney spokesman's reply does not address a single point made in the ad itself.
Which I guess means they accept the facts as stated.

Romney gets under my skin the way Bush does. I don't want to see him, or hear him speak, either. The level of self righteous hypocrisy is too much for me to take. I'm a MA resident, and have watched this behavior throughout his political career - this is nothing new. Finish him off - here and now.

WTF? I never I thought I'd agree with McCain.
Yeah, far better to do absolutely nothing about health care, right John?
OMG! But Saint John won't raise your taxes, even to pay for Bush's folly in Iraq.
And some Americans wonder how Bush was able to wreck America's finances.
Yikes! What could be worse? A Republican winning the White House in 2008, that's what.
In a way, he's right: we can't afford Mitt Romney. But the simple truth is that we can't affort McCain either.
I guess it never occurred to these guys that when Republicans lose, America wins.
