Florida Sen. Mel Martinez Endorsing McCain
The Associated Press reports that Sen. Mel Martinez (R-FL) will endorse John McCain, just in time for the Florida primary on Tuesday.
The endorsement is definitely a good get for McCain, and might especially help him build up his numbers among the Cuban community.

According to the Cuban-American republicans interviewed on NPR this morning, McCain is already doing pretty well among them. Evidently tough-on-immigrants is not an unmitigated positive for a Republican.

I believe this will definitely help Senator McCain, given his national security credentials and the fact that so many Cuban Hispanics in Florida are concerned about this. I wonder who Crist will endorse. If he endorses McCain it will really help.

I'm not sure the endorsements help all that much, I think that the candidate has to connect to the voter, in that respect the McCain camp has done a pretty good job. I credit the SC efforts of Graham for providing the team to McCain there, but know that FL is different, all one thousand miles of it.
McCain if he prevails will have to do so on being McCain and many endorsements backed up by organization similar to what Graham in SC provided at a more regional basis in FL.
You can drive accross many states in an hour, or less.. but FL requires you to take a day to do so, it would be a timezone if you stretched it in the other direction and the people of FL reflect that size difference in their regions, the panhandle is not the keys folks.

On connecting with voters well at least Mit seemed improved greatly in Boca Raton if not actually genuine.
Brutal, illuminating, and frankly funny.
I sort of get the impression he was concerned his wallet was going to get lifted like mingling with the kids in Italy.
I think the human element was best represented by some photos showing each of the candidates holding the same baby.

Does this really help? Martinez is unpopular even among Republicans. He's been a failure in the Senate. I can't imagine too many people changing their mind because of this.

Yep. It will help alright. It will help remind people that McCain and Martinez were two of the "grand barginers" who concocted the Senate Amnesty bill deal behind closed doors and then tried to ram it through the Senate several times. Despite the outrage of American citizens who burned up the Capitol switchboard with their protests of rewarding illegal immigrants with "paths to citizenship" for breaking U.S. laws.

Kinda surprising in the sense the Martinez only stepped down as Republican Party chairman a couple of months ago, right? If I was him i wouldn't be taking an intra-party side this soon after that was over.
Oh well, here's to Romney crushing Florida.

Okay, where's the telltail endorsement from Lazy Fred? (ah, my beating heart)
All this is irrelevant (imho), the well-dressed dogs (hounds, sorry) of the Republican Party won't let McCain get the nomination. They HATE him. And Huckanut. (So naturally I root for McCain and the very charming Huckanut.)
In Republican circles, well-groomed business money & crazy (if nouveau) conservatism ultimately trumps all, and after the floor show ends & the circus has left the stage, it's Mitty Haskell behind Curtain No. 1.
So what's with the mysteriously mum Lazy Fred? Seems like he must be betting on Romney or he would have endorsed his good friend John McCain (over Romney or the Huckanut or Commandante 9/11) Lazy Fred wants to be VP, it's so much better than TV.

Mr. Obama,
I have been a Republican all of my life.
I am 54 years old. I want you to know that you are speaking the truth. The truth America needs to hear. I have much respect for your wife, Michelle, and you children.
Thank you for bringing hope to this nation again. I had almost, given up. Notice I said 'almost'. You see, I believe that God brings the leaders that we need. You are that leader. I wish you the BEST of luck.
Thank you for representing me.
