Retired Lt. Col. Officially Enters Race To Challenge McConnell

GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell, whose support for the Iraq War has made him vulnerable to a challenge in 2008, officially has a challenger: Andrew Horne, a retired Marines lieutenant colonel who served in Iraq and who's also a senior adviser to the antiwar group VoteVets. Here's his announcement video:

Presumably Horne will be making an issue of McConnell's recent comments belittling the deaths of professional soldiers.

His official Web site, complete with bio and other stuff, is here.

Good stuff. I wish him well. I may send him some money.

Great. A poll that tested Horne last month had McConnell only up 11% on this political novice and under 50%!

user-pic

Oh and check out this poll from Idaho Senate which has Democrats much more competitive than expected!

Goodbye, Mitch. It never pays to be on the wrong side of everything...

This guy sounds good.

Does anyone else cringe when a candidate closes a statement by pointing out that they approved the message? Really? You approve of what you just said?

I know why the approval statements are used during ads where there is a voice-over and some other kind of sequence which, in the past might not have been approved by the candidate. That makes sense. But to add the "I approved this message" line to something you're actually saying stupidly speaks to the lowest common denominator.

Ahhhh, Mitch ain't skeerd. Just another terrorist loving liberal, no doubt.

You whiney wimps

Oh gosh, gee wiz, oh your so strong,
can I feel your muscles. Oh I am just swooning over the raw display of Democratic prowess. Oh my , I feel a bead of sweat trickling down my breast bone.
I do declare I think I may swoon.

Yeah , all you Democratic losers are so pitiful. Get use to republican power -
because there is more to come for many many years.

George Bush is the best thing that ever happened to you all, your like a bunch of
babies who need to be suckled on a republican tit.

But to add the "I approved this message" line to something you're actually saying stupidly speaks to the lowest common denominator.

There's really no excuse for ignorance on this point.

user-pic

Wow. Made my hair stand up.

BTW, it's my understanding that the 'approval' statement is required by Federal law on any commercials paid for with campaign dollars and has to be worded exactly that way (except for the 'Semper Fi').

short. declarative. sentences.

this guy is as stiff as cardboard. like what he had to say, though. even if it sounded like a bad parody of a political ad.
