Obama Ad: Happy Holidays, Primary States
Barack Obama has a new ad in all four early states — Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina — in which he and his family thank the people for hearing him out, and wishing them a happy holiday season:
A lot of voters would probably be turned off by negative ads being run over the holidays, so expect more ads like this from all the candidates. And since the Iowa caucus is only two days after New Year's Day, there won't be a whole lot of time for any more negative ads.

It's interesting that Huckabee and Obama, the two candidates that have the most invested in keeping the status quo in place, were the first two out with "Happy Holidays" ads.
With less than a week before X-Mas, they're trying to manufacture an end to the "contrast" phase of the campaign. If it's all fluff from here on out, they're likely to hold their positions.
It will also make any negative ads from rival campaigns look kinda petty in response, I think.
Smart play, I think. We don't know what's going to happen in the next 15 days, but I imagine that's just about it for the boxing between the top 3 in the Dem caucus.

Great ad!! This really helps to close the deal for those leaning to Obama. Those kids are the best endorsement around. Talk about your family values.

Geez...
I do hope that the inevitable holiday ads from Edwards and Clinton are just a little more original than Huckabee's and Obama's!
I'm not holding out hope, though.

What could make an ad more 'original' than kids wishing people merry Christmas and happy holidays?

Guiliani also released a Christmas ad.

I knew you could do it! I knew you could find something to complain about in anything Obama does or says. Try being a little less cynical. Happy Holidays.

savvy, she's just trying to set herself up as being a neutral observer of the ads to find one that is "original." Then when clinton II comes out with her ad, loki will be praising it to high heaven as the most original and uplifting holiday ad in the history of the world. She is such a card.

Oh, and Michael,
Generally speaking people will pick a moniker or nom de plume that coincides with their gender. What gave you the impression I was of the female gender?

upper left,
I have to say, that was a good one. Very quick!

Usually in a campaign, a candidate will try to end on a positive note and the fact that Iowa is on January 3 creates a special situation.
The Obama guys knew that Huckabee was on to a good thing with his ad so they followed suite. Any candidate that runs negative ads run the risk that their ad could be run after the Obama/Huckabee holiday ad and suffer in the comparison.
But consultants for the other candidates know that they need to bring the frontrunners down and have little time to do so in Iowa. So they have to make the decision on whether to run attack ads and run the risk of being perceived as mean. That's why they make the big bucks.

Please post Rudy's Christmas ad. I hear the sight of him in a red sweater vest is just priceless.

I think it will be adorable having small children in the White House again! The Obama family is so warm, genuine and nice. What a change from half the country having to grit their teeth in disgust whenever the president makes a speach.

First, I did that intentionally. I actually first typed she/he, but then changed it knowing that it would get to you. You are predictable. In answer to your question, simple, comments that you have made and personal insults and attacks over the months.
Unhinged.

"Get to" me? Not at all. But it is interesting you think refering to someone as a woman is an insult or somehow bothersome. Which, incidentally, does absolutely nothing to reinforce the perception that you have sexist tendencies! No, not you! ...heh-heh.

Of course, the insulting, warped and twisted spin. I expect no less from you. Talk about unhinged.

Well, in one way this ad is different from others in the top tier of both parties is that I don't recall any unpleasant stories about the Obama children (the Huckster had the whole dog torture thing and Romney had that weird claim that his kids were protecting America like soldiers by protecting him) and there are no issues with Michelle being wife number 2 or 3 or rumors of affairs, so they do have the family values thing all set.

Michael A,
Spin? Nope. I was not at all bothered by you thinking I was of the female gender.
I thought it was simply an honest mistake on your part. According to you it wasn't a mistake at all... but an actual pathetic attempt to "get to" me. You obviously think calling someone a woman is a negative. Something to be used to "get to" someone. So... no spin...just pointing out the obvious.
You have a problem.

Obviously, loki is right: the last thing anyone would want during the holidays is something traditional.

It has gotten to the point where I know
that your posts will subtly endorse Hillary even if you do not mention her by name.
And when someone points it out in a not so subtle way you put them down with what I guess you think is a witty rejoinder.
Way too predictable at this point in the conversation.

Can't help noticing that Obama waited 'til Channukah was over for a week before sending out his happy holidays greeting . . . Is he just continuing his ass backward trend of making a decission or stating an opinion five days to a week late or should my tribe take this personal?
