New McCain Ad Features Curt Schilling
John McCain has a new ad up in New Hampshire — where he appears to be making something of a last stand after tanking in Iowa — featuring New England celebrity Curt Schilling:
"I've seen some tough competitors in my time," Schilling says. "But none tougher that John McCain. He's a winner."

on either side of the political spectrum, it appears that this is becoming more and more of a beauty contest instead of a seasoned political debate to hold the highest office in the land.
chuck norris? barbara streisand? oprah winfrey? curt schilling? who freakin' cares what these people think?
"vote for me because i'm popular" should never trump "vote for me because i would actually know what i'm doing and i would make this country better" despite the fact that it's a shorter statement given to folks with acute attention spans

This is exactly what I have been trying to tell everyone. I know that we only have one choice for president and that is Senator John Mccain. He is the only candidate that has the experience and the qualifications to take this country forward. I thank you for validating what I have been saying all along.

I can't pretend to be objective. I hate that gutless, hypocritical coward McCain, and I hate millionaire athletes who are young and fit enough to exercise for a living but not for a war they shill for with a sentimentality at once galling and cloying.
That said, does this seem fairly desperate?
(I would only disagree with what Art said wrt Oprah Winfrey. I have no idea if her influence will transfer to politics, but she's more a cult leader than an entertainer. Twenty million single women did not vote in 2004. It wouldn't take a large percentage of them to sway an election.)

Curt. Buddy. Seriously.
You came out strong in the last couple weeks of 2004 for Bush. How much credibility can you have?
(Though I wonder if that's what the appeal is here for McCain. There are still enough idiots who support their Idiot King that McCain maybe could benefit from the association.)
For Schilling's part, though, STFU. It's rare in baseball that you see someone who competes so hard on the field come off as such a consistent horse's ass in the rest of his life.

Any admiration I may have had for Schilling disappeared after he gushed support for George Bush after the World Series during the 2004 election. He stuck his 2 cents worth in during the media frenzy after the Red Sox World Series victory. It was not a political event, Schilling just took advantage of the microphone to sell his candidate. Now, there's a man who's a good judge of character. After that, do you want to support John McCain based on his opinion ?
