GOP Ramps Up Spending For Ohio Special Election
Even though they've had notorious money problems this cycle, the National Republican Congressional Committee is spending a lot of money for tomorrow's Ohio special election — a sign that they could be worried about a weak showing or even a loss, which would profoundly damage them in further fundraising and candidate recruitment.
Roll Call reports that the NRCC has spend over $400,000 on the race, compared to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee spending a little over $240,000. The NRCC's spending has come despite the fact that the Fifth Congressional District, vacated by the death of Rep. Paul Gillmor (R), voted for President Bush by a 22% margin in 2004.

Matt wrote on December 10, 2007 10:54 AM:The outcome of this can only benefit us Dems. If we win the seat, it will be a harbinger of what is to come in the next election. You'll see a lot more retirements of Republicans who were on the fence.
If we lose the seat within 5 points, it will still send the message that we are bound to pick up many more seats this cycle. Plus, we are making the NRCC spend money it doesnt have on ONE seat in a solid red district. They have spent nearly one quarter of their CoH on this race in the past week. A true sign that fiscal conservativism is dead?
Dan wrote on December 10, 2007 11:30 AM:The DCCC could really do a bit more though to get this seat blue. It has not really spend much money since the beginning of last week while GOP money is pouring in the district.
Jon wrote on December 10, 2007 2:22 PM:The DCCC is doing even less in Phil Forgit's race in the Virginia 1st on the same day. It is also very winnable.
