Anonymous Flyers Blast Huckabee In South Carolina

With Mike Huckabee now surging in South Carolina as well as elsewhere, the anonymous rumor-mongering and mudslinging is now underway in that cesspool otherwise known as the South Carolina GOP primary.

A GOP operative forwards us the following flyer -- bearing no indications of its authorship -- and tells us that it was being handed out outside Huckabee events in the state this weekend. Note the reference to the big Huffington Post story about Huck pushing for the parole of a serial rapist. While Huck tried to dismiss the story as a left-wing smear job, Huck's wingnut opponents, of course, have no problem with the story's origin:

Huckabee is really the only candidate who really stands with God.
He realizes rapists are good at heart
in gods eyes. An eye for an eye does not nessasrily or literally mean ,you rape - we cut off a testicle.
Huckabee is what we need in this country -
the christain equivalent of the taliban.
We have to fight fire with fire.
Most of the republicans are fake - but when Huckabee addresses a letter to a rapist murderer and starts off with "Dear" he means it because he believes in god.
And he is smart enough to point out that Mormanisum is a cult.
God sees america and does not approve -
but he realizes Huckabee can lead us down the path of salvation where all rapists are pardoned and forgiven by god.

What's really hilarious is that if Huckabee gets the nomination (a laugh-inducing prospect in and of itself), this Dumond story will drop from the nutjob narrative faster than the speed of light.

"Every child should get an education in this country" is to be regarded as a point *against* Gov Huckabee? Man alive, these folks against him are worse than I had thought. Not that I am planning to vote for Huckabee (or any other republican), but he moves up a notch in my estimation if this is the sort of thing being held against him.

Why is it always South Carolina?

this was on CNN over the weekend

This story was making the rounds last week except it was being passed out in *Iowa*.

This version purports to be from a different group and has a couple changes.

Politically, Huckabee is a dead man walking.

His personality certainly does have a "Bill Clinton" quality. But when it comes to answer tough questions, Huckabee is no Clinton, Huckabee is a lightweight.

His poll numbers are up, but Dumond alone should be enough for his Republican competition to take him down.

Combine that with his stand on raising taxes, tolerance of illegal aliens, and the 5 ethics violations he incurred while Governor; his fellow Republicans should be able to destroy him.

If he were better at responding to these sort of allegations he 'might' have a shot of staying in the race. But he's actually very bad at responding to allegations. More often than not, he responds by digging even deeper holes for himself with easily provable lies.

He is a shining star. But his fellow Republicans will do their best to ensure his star has burned out by the new year.

Poor Mike Huckabee he's all wrong on terrorism, he's soft on immigration, he's too populist, he's too evangelical, he's against free trade, he's got no money, he has no foreign policy creds and worst of all his poll numbers keep going UP!!

Defying political gravity or just defying the pundits?
