Top Iowa Story: Right-Wing Congressman Denounces Rudy Candidacy
Here's today's key story out of the Iowa local press: The Des Moines Register reports that Congressman Steve King (R-IA) is openly bashing the idea of the Republican Party nominating Rudy Giuliani, warning that a Rudy nomination would undermine the GOP.
King was critical of Giuliani's record on abortion, gun rights and illegal immigration, as well as his past support for gay rights. "All these things are essential to the Reagan coalition," King said, worrying that Rudy's candidacy could give rise to a third-party spoiler candidate.

Abortion, gun rights, illegal abortion, gays... all the usual break-out-the-garlic-necklace stuff Republicans get all shivery about... but he'd give him a pass on incompetence, serial lying, malfeasance, mob links, hypocrisy... all those good Republican virtues.
The World Turned Upside Down.

Eric -- you're missing the true potential of this story. This is loony-on-loony action. Empty mano a empty mano. Calling King "rightwing" is a bit like calling Stalin "strict."
The man HAS to be endorsing Tancredo, if not yet, then soon.

Given that Rudy is still polling much weaker than McCain in general election polls (like yesterday's national poll from Fox), not even his electability argumnet will save him.

Kings ideal candidate probably died in a bunker in 1945
Aside from Rudys' social issues issue. He is not going to play well at all to bubba. He is way to New Yawk. I expect him to vanish after losing SC.

Congressman King is spot on about Benito Giuliani, il duce, the leader of the fascist wing of the Republican party. Benito is as Jimmy Breslin once wrote, "a small man in search of a balcony".
But, the Reagan coalition?
Ah, yes the heady days of the Reagan administration marked by massive deficit spending and willfull disregard of the constitution.
