Romney: Let's Give Rudy A Chance To Explain Shag Fund Allegations

Mitt Romney was asked today in Iowa about the Shag Fund accusations against Rudy Giuliani, and for now he's declining to condemn Rudy. It's possible Romney doesn't want to look too negative in piling on in this case — or perhaps he just doesn't want to interfere while Rudy is busy treading water here. After all, staying silent will deprive Rudy of any plausible chance to blame his rivals for fanning the story.

"This is something the mayor is addressing and I think we ought to give him the opportunity to address that as he feels appropriate," Romney said. "I really don't have anything to say, or to add to the discussion other than, let's let him have an ample chance to look at the history and explain what he feels is needed."

Translation: Romney thinks Giuliani is doing just fine with the rope that has already been handed to him.

DTM is exactly right. Romney is playing this perfectly. No chance for Guiliani to play picked on by his rivals.

Pass the popcorn and watch him twist slowly in the wind.

"Treading water"??? With cement shoes...

Truth is, I'm going to kind of miss Rudy. He was always good for entertainment. Imagine if he had won the nomination and this stuff started coming out next fall.

All Mitt has to do is get out of the way. Rudy's bad judgements are coming back right like a heavy boomerang into his jaw. Judi Shtups Rudy/Rudy Shtups the Taxpayers. On top of Kerik and Placa, this is the end. Across the political spectrum people, but particularly among independents and so-called Christians, have had enough scandal. Rudy is a dead man walkin'. Time to start paying attention to Mitt--clean as a whistle and empty of any heart-felt feeling except for his family and his fellow wealthy folks.

Dare I say Romney sounds gleeful?

I will not miss Rudy if he falls early. He is toxic and the longer he's in the race, the more poison he spews on all of us.

This hurts Clinton. She needs Rudy to be nominated if she is to have a chance.

When your opponent is shooting himself in the foot, it's not the time to step on his toe.

In more bad news for Republicans, a new general election poll of Alabama (a VERY red state) has Clinton very competitive and within 5 points of the top Republicans!

Any loss for rudy helps one person...John McCain..

Guiliani has already tried to pin this on Democrats but the Politico reporter demurred. You can only consider him to be treading water if that water is full of flaming excrement and shit eating sharks.

If I'm Romney I don't say a word until one of Guiliani's goons punches a reporter.

Reminds me of a song, somehow...

Shag Fund!
You load my love gun
You make my motor run
Come on, Shag Fund!

Meanwhile, bad news is accumulating for Clinton as a new poll from New Hampshire (the second in two days) shows her slipping down to single-digits... for the first time since July.
