Romney Blasts Huckabee — Says He's No Reagan
Mitt Romney clearly isn't ignoring the threat of Mike Huckabee. In fact, he's going right after Huckabee's central argument — that he, not Romney, is the true Reagan conservative.
Appearing Monday on CNN, Romney said: "I'll tell you, Ronald Reagan would have never raised taxes like Mike Huckabee did, Ronald Reagan would have never said let's give tuition breaks to illegals like Mike Huckabee did, Ronald Reagan would have never stood by and pushed for a budget that more than doubled during his term as president. Mike Huckabee as a matter of fact has a very different record than Ronald Reagan, and I'm pretty proud that my record stands up quite well."

Didn't Reagan say something about speaking ill of another republican? Quite honestly theres not a "Reagan" in the entire bunch, only pretenders.

Federal budget 1980: $590.9 Billion
Federal budget 1988: $1064.5 Billion.
So I guess Mitt is right--that is not quite a doubling.

It truly is amazing what these people think about the b actor. He was nothing like what these people claim he was like. He was mediocre at best and they treat him like he was a god. Clinton I was a better president and he was a little above mediocre, but not by much. Clinton I was far more fiscally responsible than the b actor or the shrubs. If that's what conservatives want, fiscal responsibility, why do they hate clinton I and love the b actor. If anyone spent money like a drunken sailor or a teenager with a credit card, it was the b actor. It boggles the mind.

"In 1982 alone, he [Reagan] signed into law not one but two major tax increases. The Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act (TEFRA) raised taxes by $37.5 billion per year and the Highway Revenue Act raised the gasoline tax by another $3.3 billion."

Who cares about what Regan did?
Why can't a politician be his/her own standard bearer?
Why must we always hark back to other presidents that made decisions based upon a myriad of different social/economic/political/historical contexts than faced by politicians in the present??

I think, in addition to their reflexive desire to go back to an allegedly simpler, purer time, conservatives this tme around have to run from the policies of their current standard-bearer as fast as their wingtipped shoes will carry them.

Reagan was Bush43 with antagonistic Congress . . . Gingrich's Contact on America and the Bugman gave Bonzo, the Chimp in Charge, a leg up that the serene dottering idiot did not have.
