Report: Udall Will Run In New Mexico Senate Race
New Mexico political columnist Heath Hausaman reports that Congressman Tom Udall (D) has informed party leaders that he will run for the Senate, and will announce his decision within the next two weeks. Udall would be seeking the seat of GOP Senator Pete Domenici, who is retiring.
Udall had previously backed out of the race, then informed party leaders that he was reconsidering it. Albuquerque Mayor Martin Chávez, a centrist, is already in the race.
Polling has consistently shown Udall defeating the two Republican candidates, Representatives Heather Wilson and Steve Pearce, by wide margins.
Late Update: It's official. Udall's chief of staff has confirmed the news with the Associated Press.

All right, Tom! Git 'em.

Even with Udall in, this is by no means a done deal for Democrats. Contrary to what the media has spun, the GOP has actually recruited their strongest candidates for this seat. I think this race will get far more competitive once the race gets under way. One can be sure that Udall's closet isn't clean.
"so tell me again how 67 Democrat Senators isn't possible ???"
It's not possible because of the sheer number of red states. Don't forget how GW Bush lost the popular vote in 2000, yet carried a clear majority of the states. This is why the Dems are very unlikely to get anywhere in Nebraska or most of the Red States. Another problem the Dems have is that their speculative investment in Red States with moderate candidates is wrecking their party's ability to get things accomplished. Why do you suppose the Dems are incapable of effecting the withdrawal of troops from Iraq? Because Pelosi is conservative? Absolutely not. Because there are so many conservative Dems.
The recent vote on the homosexual ENDA had something like 30 Dems vote against it. That is a staggering figure. The Dems are putting quantity ahead of 'quality' and this is like speculative buying - it will catch up with them.
Finally, there's no doubt that the GOP has a tough road to hoe in 2008 in Congress, but I seriously doubt they will suffer a the blowout defeat that many seem to predict.

Dream on, dream on, Steve Mcqueen, ugliest republicans you have ever seen. Oh profit of doom, realize that New Mexico is not as backward as the deep south. But it is true that so many Dems are just not quite as bad as the Pepugnants!

New Mexico is ranked fourth on Campaign Diaries's Senate rankings and is now likely to jump to third, ahead of Colorado.

THE GOP's BEST CANDIDATES!!!! Excuse me for screaming, but both Wilson and Pearce are on the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington's most corrupt Congress members list. So I guess the best the Republican Party can come up with is people who can cheat their way into their Congressional seats. No thank you!
