Poll Has Bad News For Rudy: He's Way Down In South Carolina
On the heels of polls showing Rudy dropping fast in New Hampshire and out of contention in Iowa, a a new poll finds him sinking fast in a third key state: South Carolina. The Clemson University poll finds Mitt Romney now taking the lead with 17%, followed by Fred Thompson at 15%, Mike Huckabee with 13%, John McCain at 11% — and Rudy at only 9%.
It's definitely not a good result for Rudy, especially in light of recent polls showing him in third in both Iowa and New Hampshire. And it's great news for Romney, who apparently now leads in all three of the key early contests.
In Clemson's last poll in early September, Rudy was in a dead heat with Thompson for first, with Thompson at 19% to his 18% — meaning Rudy has sunk by nine points. Mitt Romney, meanwhile has gained six points, while Mike Huckabee has gained seven points and John McCain has lost four.
Rudy's advisors have been pushing a February 5 strategy, positing the idea that his national celebrity and post-9/11 prestige mean he can lose all the early contests but still win big on the national primary day. Romney, on the other hand, has focused heavily on those early states, following the traditionally accepted ideas of how to win the nomination.
Many Republicans are skeptical of the claim that Rudy can rebound after losing badly in all the early contests. Numbers like the above suggest that Rudy's hopes will be severely put to the test.

Well Romney no longer leads in Iowa... The latest poll out this morning has him SECOND to Huckabee, in a stunning turn-around.

How 'bout that -- gazillion dollars paid to two former Rove employees, who are now runnin' the publicity show in Texas, and they can't put enough positive spin on Rudy to get him out of the basement... guess they'll have to resort to whisper campaigns, following the oh-so-Christian example of their former leader.

One poll out of Iowa doesn't mean Huckabee is in the lead.
Rudy's advisers should be sued for malpractice.

As a southerner, I can tell you right now Rudy has zero curb appeal in the south. I want someone to tell me how he wins after getting whipped in the first 3 primaries.
If he comes in last in SC, I expect him to be a commentator on Faux news a week later.

Scrap all the old truisms about the need to win in the early primary and caucus states.
I do believe Rudy Giuliani CAN ignore poor showings in the early states and still win big in the Feb. blowout.
All one has to do is look at the number of electoral votes in the later-voting states to see how far more significant wins are in those states.
(Face it, once Iowa is over, NO one cares what Iowa did.)
As a matter of fact, NO one thought Rudy Giuliani would do as well as he has been doing in the Midwest and with the "Christian" fundamentalists.
The rules do not apply to Giuliani.
Be very afraid, because I think he is going to do very well unless we ALL get busy getting out the FACTS about Giuliani.
Too many Americans still believe his BS.

Giuliani deserves to be hounded to the ends of the earth for what he did to those brave firefighters before and after 9/11.
So where's Ron Paul? The last poll I saw had him at 8% and he's just beginning to run ads in SC.

I have to disagree with poetry, if Rudy loses the first three contests, he won't even be in competition for the delegate rich primaries that follow. The problem would be threefold:
1. Losing three straight contests will re-write the media narrative surrounding the candidate. No longer will he be the hero of 9/11, leading the national polls. He will be the Republican version of Howard Dean.
2. Once Rudy is laid low, media attention will focus on the other candidates and the "new" dynamics of the race. With the exception of campaign commercials, his face will disappear from television.
3. Wounded and ignored, the money will dry up, or more accurately, will be redirected to other, more credible canddates.
If Rudy loses the first three contests, he will disappear.

I live in South Carolina and have not seen a single ad for Rudy. Romney has his ads blanketing the airwaves with his b.s. and Thompson started airing ads about a week ago. Romney's been very visible in the state with yard signs and billboards on every corner. The only other yard signs I see are for Ron Paul. I haven't seen a single ad for the Dems, although John Edwards (and of course Stephen Colbert) have travelled the state a few times.
It's really amazing moving down here after being a 35-year resident of Massachusetts and living under Romney when he was gov. He must really think people are stupid with his fake conservative credentials. If he gets the nomination, expect to see a slew of pictures of him with Ted Kennedy, since they tried to appear as best of buds in Massachusetts. I'm suprised you don't see them already.

If the Republicans want to stop Romney then either Rudy or Thompson will need to drop out of the race following South Carolina.
I long ago thought that Thompson was the Republican insiders choice to stop Romney on the basis that Rudy would flounder badly in the early going. While it has taken a little longer than expected, the chips are now starting to fall in place.
I see that Rassmussen now has Huckabee leading in Iowa. Maybe the insiders need to switch horses and drop Thompson since he has been so dismal on the campaign trail. Early on I said that Huckabee would be a Republican sleeper and I continue to say that.

Look at all the good stuff and things he did for everyone in the big apple on 9-11.
Well except for 3000 or so people.
but it wasn't his fault he did not protect them.
But he says he will be responsible for protecting you now from them.
God is for Rudy and you can't go against the lord.

Did you fall and hit your head? I live in NYC, and he couldn't have won for dog catcher on 9/10. After that, he just looked like he was in charge. Good riddance to the little totalitarian.

Giuliani is looking good in the big states. Iowa, NH and SC, just don't have the importance they once did. Thankfully. Also, the bible belt is dwindling in importance too, so a tard like Giuliani could take a Fl, and maybe even Joe-Ja, and leave the rest of the bible thumpers and still win.

I'm sure that it is an oversight that Tancredo's numbers were not reported.
It remains my dream that Guiliani and Clinton will lose their respective Republican nominations and go all Connecticutt for Lieberman on the nation . . . That would be 'bitchen' AND . . . Hey! It would not matter which one had the top of the ticket!

Rudy will never carry the southern states that Bush did in 2004. And he won't carry any state that the Democrats won in the 2004 election. He doesn't unite Republicans and he doesn't divide Democrats. Of course the same could be said of every 2008 GOP presidential candidate.

I'm betting that the more poll points Rudy drops, the more mean-spirited the attacks will be against his opponents.
Rove's presence and practices live on in his firm, which is handling Rudy's publicity/marketing/glossy brochuring.
Wonder what order they'll go in (viewing all of this slander in the primaries, of course, as preparation for the '08 election):
Let's see . . . do we start with attacks on the others' 1)families; 2)faith; 3)friendships with -- gasp -- democrats; 4) failure to keep us safe from tearists.
How often can you say "9/11"?

If Conservatives open their eyes and stop listening to just the media, they will see that Fred Thompson is the only real Conservative in the race.
Rudy is pro choice and pro same sex marriage.
Mitt was pro choice all the way up until he decided to run for President.
Huckabee raised taxes more than Clinton did and ran a sanctuary state for illegal immigrants.
Only Fred gets it. The media keeps trying to bury him but it's because they fear him. They know people will like him and he will beat Hillary.
