Pat Robertson To Endorse Rudy
Rudy Giuliani is scoring a huge endorsement from the Christian right. The Washington Post reports that Rudy will be endorsed today by none other than Pat Robertson — the televangelist, 1988 candidate for president, founder of the Christian Coalition, and self-proclaimed redirector of hurricanes.
The endorsement is a definitely a coup for Rudy, who has been working to assuage fears from Christian conservatives about his pro-choice stance and other socially liberal positions. Indeed, it's hard to even think of a leading televangelist endorsing a pro-choice Republican candidate.
This does beg an important question for Rudy: How does the former mayor of New York City feel about courting and accepting the endorsement of a man who said after 9/11 that America deserved it, on account of our sinful ways?

Brownback To Endorse McCain

Other huge news this morning: a new New Hampshire primary poll has Clinton stumbling down and Obama cutting her lead by 13% in a month!!! Link.

How does Robertson's endorsement make any sense? What manner of unholy alliance is this?

My take: Robertson wants the closest think he can get to a Holy War with Islam, and Rudy Giuliani is the candidate most likely to get him there.

How will the faithful take this? F. is basically saying that he was just joking about the pro-life stuff, the anti-gay stuff, all the social issues. Will the serious social conservatives realize they have been pawns and get genuinely pissed off?

The surprise is why the left always is shocked that the redstaters are ideologically inconsistent. It's really not about the bible, its about power and a certain type of authority. Always has been, always will be. The media and elites, like Robertson, will do what they have to do.

It just goes to show that the evangelicals move into politics is nothing more than a power grab. All the chitter-chatter about "morals" and "charactor" is just that.

Clearly Pat thinks Rudy is the candidate that will bring on the Apocalypse the soonest. He is probably right.

This is not at all surprising to those of us who have read Bob Altmeyer's online book
The Authoritarians
Robertson is a double high and so is Rudy. They're perfect together. The moralizing stuff doesn't much matter. Fundamentalists think that the world has no order. It is random, chaotic and violent. They believe in punishment and vengeance and obedience.

With Robertson, always follow the money.
Even more than James Dobson, Pat Robertson makes lots of Christian noises, but money and power are what he's really about.
