Hillary Goes After The Republicans In New Ad
Hillary Clinton has a new ad in New Hampshire, bashing the Republican attack machine for attacking her:
It would seem there are three reasons to run this ad: 1) Republican attacks against her that win over their own loyalists might also turn Dem-leaning independents against Hillary; 2) Going after the Republicans for attacking Hillary could have a rally-around-the-flag effect for Hillary with her own partisans; and 3) The Hillary campaign has been likening the intramural attacks from Barack Obama and John Edwards to those heard from Republicans, so this ad could be seeking to marginalize their critiques.

2a) I think she is also suggesting that the GOP is ganging up on her b/c they are afraid of facing her in the general election (an electability argument).

Eric K.,
You left out reason (4 may serve to blunt attacks by her democratic opponents -- mostly Edwards at this point I think -- on her alleged "corporatism," w/o driving up her own negatives by engaging them directly. Kind of a nice bank shot there.

For all those mindlessly repeating that Obama's smear of Hillary's record.
Votes speak louder than words:
As of 11/18 the Progressivepunch.com lifetime progressive score for Hillary is 91.21 tying her with Schumer for 16th. Obama is 24th at 88.73 .Lieberman is lifetime at 76.72. These numbers change as each relevant vote occurs. Essentially, Progressivepunch tracks how frequently each Senator votes with the progressive Senators when those progressive Senators are opposed by the majority of Republicans.
For 07/08 as of 11/18, Clinton has voted with the progressive senators 90.13% of the time while Obama has voted with them 81.64 % of the time. For reference this year Lieberman voted with the progressive 81.40 % of the time.

As a Hillary supporter, I just have to say that the hysterics against her on the left is very sad. I can't wait until
Denver when all of you will be writing fat checks to her campaign and celebrating the first woman nominee.

I'd like to suggest another reason....
Obama is slinging mud at Hillary, and Hillary isn't exactly keeping its hands clean -- and the only candidate who benefits from a Clinton/Obama food fight would be edwards.
So while fighting back against Obama via press release, she is putting an ad on the air in Iowa that presents her as being above the fray in order to minimize the damage that can result from a food fight.

Although (1) is relatively boring, it may be the most likely explanation. In fact, if I recall the cross-tabs in the recent UNH poll correctly, Obama was actually leading Clinton among Independents who qualified as likely Democratic primary voters, but they were also the most likely to report they were still trying to decide.

Not sure what you're refering to here. Can you please elaborate?
Did notice this today, but it's not a smear, just a statement of fact:
"My understanding is she wasn't treasury secretary in the Clinton administration. I don't know exactly what experience she's claiming," Obama told reporters in Iowa, where a new poll shows he's now leading among Democratic contenders.

And how incredibly generous of Obama to state these facts for all of us to see. I’m sure plenty of us thought that Hillary was Bill’s treasury secretary. Now we know better. Thank you, oh thank you, wise Obama.
*Duh*

I noticed that this ad creates a blanket category for 'Republicans' then generically blames all the bad stuff on 'them'.
This ad doesn't seem to fit with what Clinton recently said in response to a questioner who asked her how she would handle polarization.

DemAC:
Do you have anything beyond snark to offer to the debate over Hillary's alleged experience?
What exactly is it that Hillary accomplished as an unelected spouse of a popular president? It seems like she wants to claim the successes of a popular president as her own, which is laughable at best. She's barely into her second term in the only elective office she's ever held.
And with candidates like Biden, Dodd, and Richardson in the race her claims of massive amounts of experience are openly and obviously ridiculous. I'd love to see a bar graph comparing the number of years in elective office for all of the candidates so we can see how incredibly hollow Hillary's experience claim actually is. Biden's and Dodd's experience absolutely eclipse the experience of all three of the Dem front runners.
Maybe Hillary will pick Laura Bush as her VP, giving us the most vastly experience presidential ticket in election history.

Okay. Here's my quick attempt at a bar graph of experience in elective office for all of the democrats. Please let me know if I have the numbers wrong for any of the candidates. One "X" equals one year in elective office. I'm amazed that Biden and Dodd don't have a graph like this on the front pages of their web sites.
Biden (34):
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Dodd (32):
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Richardson (22):
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Mike Gravel (16):
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Dennis Kucinich (15):
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Obama (8):
XXXXXXXX
Clinton (7):
XXXXXXX
Edwards (6):
XXXXXX
Yes, clearly Hillary Clinton is the only candidate with the experience to lead from day one! LOL!

BTW, my numbers for Gravel and Kucinich are the most likely to be off. I didn't know much about them and tried to glean their years in elective office from quick web searches.
