Hillary And Edwards Won't Cross Picket Line To Debate
Hillary Clinton and John Edwards have both announced that they will skip a CBS News debate, scheduled for December 10, if it involves crossing a picket line. The CBS News workers voted last week to authorize a strike.
"I will honor the picket line if the workers at CBS News decide to strike," Clinton said in a press release.
Edwards also confirmed during a conference call with reporters that he will not attend the debate if there is an ongoing strike.

This is intersting.. Anyone heard from Obama yet.

This is not interesting. Obviously, Obama will skip it too.

This is an easy one. I'd wager not a single candidate will "cross the picket line." It really is a can't lose situation.
I expect Obama and Dodd and Biden and the others to release their own statements very shortly. Probably by the time I finish writing this. ;^}

Oh, great. I'd like to see the debate.

If Hillary was third in line on this, there would already be 36 comments here excoriating her for her blatant disregard for working people.

Guys don't be so sure about Obama. He has a history of skipping controversial issues.

Jim J,
I think that's unnecessary at this point. Everybody is pretty clear on Hillary's blatant disregard for working people.

Siding with the Unions? Controversial?

Siding with unions against management of main stream media takes guts. My suspicion is Edwards did it first.

Indeed he does. However, according to Stein at the HuffPost, Sen. Obama will also skip the debate.

Loki, I think you are underestimating the power, and 'self-serving-ness' of our mainstream media.

Progressivepunch.com rates candidates by how well their votes compare to a group of progressive Senators when that group is opposed by a majority of the Republicans. On the subcategory of Labor Rights:
Dodd at 94.59 is 13 out of the 100 Senators, Clinton is 91.28 putting her 19th, Obama is almost identical at 90.91 putting him 20th and Biden is 73.91. For reference purposes, Lieberman at 57.58 is 49th.
These numbers will change as more relevant votes come in.

Jane,
Another link below of voting comparison of Hillary/Obama/Edwards when they were in senate. Title: "Is Hillary a corporate Democrat"
As per her voting record she is no more corporate democrat than Obama or Edwards. In fact according to ADA Edwards missed many important votes that he now says he would have voted with progressives which personally I think a cop out. Even counting that he gets similar rating as Hillary.
I also wonder how can Obama be critical of Hillary about her Kyle/Liberman vote when he missed that vote. May be Clinton needs to point that out in next debate.

How about producing a reality debate?
Get them together in front of c-span cameras for 90 minutes and see what happens.

This has always been Edwards policy. He cancelled events in 2004 because he would have had to cross picket lines to attend.

Leave it to Eric Kleefeld to put a spin on a straightforward report. All other blogs I've readr reported early Hillary and Obama or all three leading Democrats. Kleefeld raises questions about Obama by omitting him. Come on Eric. Play fair.

Obama who does not care enough to vote when human rights are on the line ans who throws tizzy-fits when unions support other candidates be sensitive to the plights of workers?
Let's see . . . Edwards said he won't cross the picket line today so by Monday we will know Obama's decission.
Did anyone hear the rumor that the reason that Clinton is going to not cross the picket line was cuz she thought the owners' at CBS were locking the rabble out and she wanted to show solidarity with the owners?

I guess everybody but ADA which gives Hillary a lifetime 100% rating on her Senate votes on labor issues.
And then there are all those major unions that keep on endorsing her.
But never let the facts stand in the way of your Hillogynist blinders.

I bet Hillary's lying about it. Watch and see--she won't pass up a chance to be the center of attention yet again and have 2 hours entirely devoted to her.
Just imagine the inane questions Katie Couric is dreaming up--she'll want to outdo the embarrassing lows of Russert and Blitzer.

Jane once again says :
"Progressivepunch.com rates candidates by how well their votes compare to a group of progressive Senators when that group is opposed by a majority of the Republicans."
What's your point Jane? That some percentage generated by an obscure website tracking meaningless votes on meaningless legislation makes Hillary less of a corporate-controlled warmonger?
Don't you get it? Votes don't matter when it is showboat deadend legislation. Both Democrats and Republicans go through the sharade, knowing their votes mean nothing except gridlock and sustaining the status quo for profiteering corporations.
The only votes that Hillary Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton has cast that made a difference were when she voted to give Bush authority to invade Iraq and attack Iran.
Progressivepunch.com is MEANINGLESS!

Hey, Anonymous,
In case you're wondering just who I'm talking about when I refer to the loony leftist-behind, irrational Hillary haters, please refer to the mirror.
The fact is when Senators were called upon to support union workers with their votes, Senator Clinton supported them 100% on issues that THEY rated as important for tracking and reporting to the rank and file.
When unions put a picket line in place, she supports them by not crossing it. When labor unions make their endorsments, Hillary is always under strong consideration and she receives more than her share from our major labor unions because of her record of standing with them against the corporations.
I'm afraid, with your blind, unsupported self-centered opinions verging on raving spittle - that anonymous is meaningless (with a capital MEANINGLESS!).

For what it's worth, which isn't a lot because this isn't a race to make the newspaper headlines, Obama released his statement before Edwards did.
