Former Dem Governor May Run For Lott's Seat
Could Democrats wage a competitive Senate campaign in Mississippi? Former Gov. Ronnie Musgrove (D) says that he is "seriously considering running" for the open seat of retiring Sen. Trent Lott (R).
While former state Attorney General Mike Moore is most often mentioned as the preferred choice of Democratic strategists for the race, Musgrove is seen as one of the few other candidates who could be competitive in this deeply red state.

If you asked me, Musgrove is not very favored to win here. Let's be honest: Trent Lott is a partisan and no dummy and doesn't want to see his seat fall into Democratic hands. Look at how he did this - he waited until after Haley Barbour was re-elected Governor of Mississippi and after Thad Cochran announced that he won't retire. Senator Lott has likely planned the whole thing out with the Mississippi GOP to make a Democratic pick-up HIGHLY UNLIKELY. Folks, if you think that Mississippi, is fertile ground for Democratic gains, maybe you should look at the election margins the GOP scored there earlier this month on the statewide basis - it was a full-blow Democratic route, much the way Louisiana has gone.

Steve--
fine. Nobody's thinking Mississippi's Senate race would be a toss-up. But with Lott gone, whoever the GOP picks to run will necessarily need to work harder than Lott would have needed to get the win.
Dems need to push hard to win every race. If the GOP has to divert funds to the MS Senate race from a tighter race in Alaska or New Mexico or Maine, then that's a good thing.
Who knows, maybe the GOP candidate will turn out to share characteristics with Florida's Bob Allen. Stranger things have happened.

It looks like Barbour is unlikely to pick Pickering after all, contrary to what we though... And why could Musgrove who won statewide before not win this race? And Mike Moore even more so?! This is far from a slam dunk and the GOP is favored, but it is a huge opportunity for Dems.

We need honest democrats like Musgrove because
Rudy Guliani was too busy before 9-11 protecting the interests of Kerik who is now under federal indictment. He knew about his mafia connections and kickbacks.
He was protecting his friend - a pedophile preist.
He got kickbacks from the company that made defective radios that firemen had to use.
He was seeing another women while married.
No wonder he did not protect Americans before 9-11.
And murder rates went up by over 3000 in 2001 alone while Guliani was the mayor of new york.

Excellent! A Lott will become A LITTLE BIT FOR THE DEMOCRATS. Musgrove knows the state and set up a statewide network quicker than AG Moore. MS is a very Conservative state and Musgrove has the mentality and experience to deal with it.
Howver, the reality is that Musgrove would ONLY have a tough race against... THE CURRENT GOVERNOR. See y'all in November, 2008 - wearin BLUUUUUE!

About that "GOP rout." You may not have noticed that the Democrats won majorities in both houses of the state legislature. That does NOT qualify as a "GOP rout."
