Flashback: Robertson Agreed That America "Deserved" 9/11

In light of Pat Robertson's endorsement today of former NYC Mayor and Churchillian 9/11 hero Rudy Giuliani, it seems worth recalling that even as the smoke was still rising from the site a few days later, Robertson had this to say about the disaster in a TV appearance with Jerry Falwell:

"God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve," said Falwell, appearing yesterday on the Christian Broadcasting Network's "700 Club," hosted by Robertson.

"Jerry, that's my feeling," Robertson responded. "I think we've just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven't even begun to see what they can do to the major population."

Falwell said the American Civil Liberties Union has "got to take a lot of blame for this," again winning Robertson's agreement: "Well, yes."

Subsequent to that, Falwell placed some of the blame for 9/11 squarely on a range of Americans -- civil liberties groups, feminists, homosexuals, abortion rights supporters -- who have tried to "secularize" America. Robertson didn't disagree. Today Rudy gladly accepted his endorsement.

More in a bit.

Can you see the party in hell that will be going on when Pat, Mr. 9/11 and the king join falwell. It will really hot and way too funny.

Robertson is a crook and a hack ... his endorsement should be worthless.

Also, are his various enterprises still tax emempt? They are obviously nothing more than political organizations since he is obviously willing to sacrifice his supposed "Christian values" when it comes to politics and endorsing a pro-choice, cross-dressing candidate with delusions of grandeur.

Rudi is obviously willing to sacrifice his principles as well in caving to the right on judicial appointments when it obviously goes against his long held personal beliefs.

Ooooh, now the religio-jackals are back to nip and tear at the long-dead corpse.

"God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve," said Falwell...

We deserve it alright, Jer, but for nowhere NEAR the reasons you think. This is the price paid for sleeping on our watch while greedy pricks and their idiots took over, and this is blowback for our criminal treatment of the world's sovereign states.

"I put all the blame legally and morally on the actions of the terrorist," [Falwell] said. But he said America's "secular and anti-Christian environment left us open to our Lord's [decision] not to protect. When a nation deserts God and expels God from the culture . . . the result is not good."

"Everbody has a big BUT." - PeeWee Herman

Well okay!, as long the (R) toetappers remain blameless, along with God. Tappers gotta tap and God's gotta lift that curtain. They just can't help themselves, y'see.

I skimmed the piece and went back again. "Churchillian 9/11 hero" is way, way off-base and demeans Winston Churchill. Churchill wasn't a hero because he was bombed in the blitz in 1940. He was a hero for what he did before, during and after the war. Could we please not demean and degrade Winston Churchill's legacy by tying his name with this abomination called Mr. 9/11. A more appropriate lead in to Mr. 9/11 would be "Hitler-like" as oppose to Churchillian.

It goes to prove that (a) Pat is greedy for power, (b) Pat is suffering from senile dementia and (c) he will betray any principle for advantage.

He's disgusting.

Does anyone recall the mess in Africa when Robertson used govt planes to ferry supplies to destitute people? As I recall the planes were "loaned" to him for that purpose; however, it was later disclosed that mining equipment had been transported to support recovery of gold from a river bed rather supplies of relief. When testimony disclosed this, it was reported that Robertson quickly made a token payment to the govt to resolve the issue. I think he is just another greedy Yale lawyer shooting off his mouth and nothing he says is worth repeating.

Pat was a biz-buddy with Charles Taylor, the despot of Liberia. They made a lot of money together. Diamonds and such.
But Taylor calls himself a Christian, which allows Pat to excuse his multiple crimes against his people.
Such a deal!
Suspend disbelief and you can get away with anything.

I dare any of the Fox News Stepford Children to raise this issue with their darling Rudy, who, as we are constantly reminded, was in New York City on 9/11 and was intimately involved in its aftermath (though certainly not involved in the event's PREVENTION!!!) as NYC Mayor.

If Rudy REALLY had an ounce of integrity he'd denounce Robertson for his comments back then... because I doubt Pat has changed his views on the subject since then.

And you can say what you want about Rudy, positive or negative, but his record is contrary to much of what the evangelical community believes, so why do they seek to endorse him, and why does he seek their endorsements? it's about time the Republicans stopped being held hostage by the socially conservative wing of the party.

Robertson's only allegiance is to money and power. Abortion and gay marriage are issues he knows will never go anywhere and are great moneymakers for his organization.

Time to put Robertson in moth balls.
He needs to take Rudy with him...

Rudy wrote on November 7, 2007 3:12 PM:

Just as Pat understood that America merited the atrocity of 9/11 because of all our gays abortionists and Korean delis, he understands that America deserves me. The logic is infallible:

* America deserved 9/11.
* Rudy is 9/11.
* America deserves Rudy.

I am trying to wrap my mind around this.

Let's see....Rudy Giuliani is running on the basis of September 11, 2001. He is trying to make himself acceptable to a lunatic fringe so he embraces the mouthpiece of that fringe -- the man who sat there nodding when another lunatic, since called "home" says that the events were the result of God's withdrawal of favor because New York is the home of some gay people. So he embraces the sonofabitch? Huh?

Two peas in one pod, the drag queen mayor, whom infamously had two gay roomates he bragged on he would marry them together if he could, who is anti-guns, anti-second amendment, pro-gay marriage, pro-abortionist, matched with a delusional false prophet who preaches murder, genocide with glee..., cannot say they do not deserve each other, and surely on judgment day Jesus will have a single name for them both, blind biblical goats whom jesus will not know and both will be in awe and shock when they ask Jesus when did we do these wrongs too you, ignore the poor, hungry, naked those sick and in prison, and it will likely still be beyond their comprehension when Jesus tells them when you did this too the least of these you did it unto me.., Giuliani advocates torture as if it is mere college initiation pranks, his fellow pea in the pod Robertson rejoices when entire cities are devastated, advocates murdering foreign politicians he dislikes..., do not think Jesus preached either...

Just shows that Robertson is not even a man of "conviction" -- by endorsing a candidate that is pro-choice.

All that "religion" stuff by these right-wingers is baloney. What really matters to them is the neo-con agenda: transnational corporate power, oil profits, and ensuring quagmire scenarios in Iraq & the middle east -- and thus ensuring $$$ military spending.
