Finally! Thompson Rolls Out A Big Conservative Endorsement

So Fred Thompson will pick up the much-coveted endorsement of the National Right to Life Committee, a critical get at a critical time for Thompson.

Last week, amid Thompson's dropping numbers, three of his top rivals -- Rudy, John McCain, and Mitt Romney -- all paraded out conservative endorsements. This was a blow, to put it mildly, to Thompson's efforts to portray himself as the person conservatives would rally around. But now that he's been embraced by this leading pro-life group, Thompson finally has a prominent conservative endorsement to call his own.

Well, Thompson and Huckabee are the most CONSISTENT right-to-life candidates out there right now -- unfortunately, Fred does not come across very well in person -- I'm still holding out for Huckabee!!!

This is also good news for Giuliani, as the Religious Right is dividing itself dramatically (read full analysis of what this news means here).

Also, Thompson REALLY needs good news: He came in sixth in two NH polls over the week-end, and he stumbled for second to fifth in yesterday's FL poll. And Rasmussen's daily numbers have him fourth for the first time in MONTHS.

So I LIKE Huckabee, but maybe I have a REAL manly mancrush on Big Johnny McCain! My little solider's cup runneth over for him, in a completely heterosexual way, of course.

So, the Doppelganger's back.

While being wholly pig-ignorant and lazy are excellent qualities in a potential GOP nominee, as a conservative Christain with good moral values, my ONLY problem with Huckabee AND Thompson is that I'm not entirely sure if either of them is pro-torture ENOUGH for me. Perhaps if one of them waterboarded a brown person, or crushed a child's testicals I would be convinced.

That poor confused old man. I've said it before, and I'll say it again - he should hole up in his mansion with his hot wife and a case of Cialis. Then he can't do us any harm.

Hey! I'm the real Jake D.

No! I am Jake D.

This National Right To Life group, they're opposed to the death penalty, correct? :)

This National Right To Life group, they're opposed to war, correct? :)

Jake,

did your mom refuse to send out for more pizza until you clean up the old cartons from your lair, or some other version of a bad day for you?

The act is a little more tiresome than usual ... I presume TPM infrastructure will only allow one Jake D. to be registered at a time ...

This National Right To Life group, they're opposed to loose firearm possession laws, correct? :)

featherfamily:

My mom is dead, so she neither sent out for more pizza nor did she do anything else for that matter. Perhaps you are referring to the "bad day" fake Jake is having above? If you really don't know which one is fake, let me know.

The main thing that confuses me is that during his MTP appearence, Thompson was clearly pro-choice. Allowing states to decide on abortion is, morally, a pro-choice position.

He is anti Roe v. Wade (but so are many pro-choice progressives, like me, for instance). But the entire moral underpinnings of the so-called pro-life position is that abortion = murder and therefore should be outlawed.

Or did I misunderstand what he said?

I disagree . . . The single most consistant candidate in the Republican field is Tancredo.
