Colbert Drops Out
Stephen Colbert has dropped out of the presidential campaign, after the South Carolina Democratic Executive Council voted 13-3 last week to not let him on their ballot.
"Although I lost by the slimmest margin in presidential election history — only 10 votes — I have chosen not to put the country through another agonizing Supreme Court battle," Colbert said in a statement. "It is time for this nation to heal."

Don't forget hte one poll of the race had Colbert in the double-digits in a Clinton-Rudy-Colbert race, drawing more from the GOP! He could have been a huge factor!!

My soul whimpers . . . scalded to the wick by this tragic squelching of democracy BY THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY. I weep . . .

He can still be our President. The public can vote for him, even if the DNC and GOP refuse to let him on the ballot.
Didn't they ever hear of the mulligan in Golf?

Can you honestly blame them?
Frankly, with the WGA strike I think he'd be dropping out anyway.

Actually with the Writer's Guild on strike, Colbert will have time to turn his fledging campaign into the juggernaut it could be . . .

The South Carolina Democratic Executive Committee did Colbert a favor because it gave him a way to drop this campaign. It had gotten to the point where it was not funny any more and it would have been hard for Colbert to keep the gag going for three more months until the South Carolina primary.

GWB "lost"? BTW: I thought Colbert's run was hilarious, but I already had an FEC Complaint drafted, just waiting a notary if the Democrats had let him in : )
