Thompson Co-Chairs Include George Allen — And Dick Cheney's Daughter
A familiar name pops up on the new list of Fred Thompson's campaign co-chairs: George Allen.
That's right, the former Senator from Virginia is now on board for Thompson's campaign. It's an interesting turn for Allen — if not for his political implosion and re-election defeat last year, he might have been the Southern conservative candidate this cycle, not Thompson.
Also on the list is Washington lawyer and former State Department official Liz Cheney, daughter of Dick Cheney. Could this be a clue as to where the vice president's sympathies lay?
Update: George Allen and Liz Cheney will also be working the spin room on Thompson's behalf after tomorrow night's Republican debate — Thompson's first debate. This should be fun.

Now this is very, very funny. Mr. Macaca, the shoe in for the senate last year who couldn't run his own campaign in the lil ol state of virginia, is now running Freddie's nationwide presidential campaign. Priceless. When is freddie going to bail and go back to law and order? November?

Wonder what Mary thinks about this, given Fred's support for an anti-gay-marriage amendment? Well, the Cheneys show once again that concern for the well-being of their family members will not deter them from their conservative agenda one iota. The apple sure don't fall far from the tree. If Thompson is Cheney's idea of a 2008 Republican Presidential candidate, it makes perfect sense.
Cheney's real ability in the 'administration' has been to manipulate Bush. Granted, it hasn't taken much (but we're about to go to war with yet another Middle Eastern country, no matter what lies Bush spews to the media); By Shooter's own yardstick, he's doing well.
Fred Thompson would be yet another in a long line of empty, easily manipulated Republican figureheads. And I'm sure Jeri would love to play Nancy Davis to Fred's Reagan.

If Spencer Abraham and White Hood Allen (not to mention the Cheneys) represent the quality of individual Ol' Hound Dawg can be expected to surround himself with, I'm not so sure that a whole passle of GOPers will cotton to him and The Bauble as White House occupants.
More specifically, I realize America has little experience with Abraham, shockingly brief as his Washington stint was, so you'll just have to trust me when I tell you that he makes Hound Dawg, by contrast, look like a bundle of fiery energy and George Bush look like Stephen Hawking.

I just hope Allen won't be the one tasked to teach Fred "Love Brother Love Sweet Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show" Thompson about history and current events, given the former's deep respect for cultural issues ("Macaca!"). Someone needs to remind Thompson that he's no longer the Aircraft Carrier Admiral from RED OCTOBER, there isn't a Soviet Union, and Jack Ryan can't be his Secretary of Defense.

there is something repugnant about a senior ciitizen saying he'd pick up where bush left off on Social Security.
I'm looking forward to this 'debate'. Ever see Grampy Fred standing tall with his hands on his hips? Now thats a wide stance.
Just needs some heavy pancake and a face lift wouldn't hurt.

The story in USA-Today this morning on the this Thompson "Dream Team" had the following telling paragraph:
"Allen was a senator from Virginia -- and potential GOP presidential candidate himself -- until he lost last year to Democrat Jim Webb in what will always be remembered as the campaign that introduced the word "macaca" to American politics."
If the media is identifying one of your campaign co-chairs as having lost due to one of the great foot-in-mouth moments in American political history, then you have his problem already.

If you take it as given that Fred is running a campaign based on stuffing everything the thug party lost on in 2006...the Iraq War, homophobia, the racist Southern strategy...back in the face of every American voter while ranting "I am going to make you eat all of this whole 'cause my loyal base will carry me to the White House" then these two on his campaign make perfect sense. If not, Fred may be demonstrating what many already suspect...that he's just another dumb sh*t Republican.

Why would this bug Thompson. He thinks just like Makaka Allen. They are birds of a feather. Thompson must have found the disgusting statement made by Allen as being perfectly acceptable or he would have treated Allen like the pariah he is. Also, Thompson showed that attitude in the very few remarks he made on his last TV gig.

Ibd--I had the exact same thought, the other way around. Thompson will make the perfect front for another Cheney administration. It's struck me all along that Thompson is the real "W" candidate in this race: the substance-free front guy they can prop up to be the public "president" while the real power lies elsewhere. Can a Veep serve more than 2 terms? Or will Lynn Cheney be the head of Thompson's Veep Search Committee?

Its sooooo funny to listen to those with no intentions of voting republican whine and bitch and snivel about a candidate they would never support. I am a republican, I like Fred, and I'm voting for him. Either we get the guy who likes cigars and bourbon, or we get the democrats in conservative clothing. I like realism and I dont need a face lift to admire and like a candidate. Btw, realllllyyyy hot possible first lady too!!
