SEIU Not Endorsing For Dem Primaries

One of the most sought-after union endorsements in the Democratic primaries, that of the Service Employees International Union, will be going to ... nobody.

SEIU announced today that the national union did not come to an endorsement for any one Dem candidate. Instead, locals will be permitted and encouraged to make their own endorsements on a state by state basis.

In that case, it's a safe bet that the candidates will be courting the SEIU locals in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, etc.

Isn't this sort of a blow for Edwards?

Clearly a victory for the girls club and Obama. They couldn't get the SEIU endorsement so they denied it to Edwards precisely because of the boost it would have given his candidacy. Edwards, who stands out clearly as the most liberal of the three remains a major threat to them both. But, unless he can break out between now and Iowa and drive the debate it looks like Republican Lite wins again with either of the other two though it looks like the Republican Lite choice will wear a skirt this time fooling all those expecting significant change into thinking that the gender and not the actual substance of the policies is what is important.

I am glad that they aren't committing resources to the Dem primary. It's best to save the time, money and energy for the general where there will be a stark difference between the candidates.

At least, Edwards has a good chance to get the SEIU's endorsement in Iowa (in addition to the powerful Californian organization)

This would mean both a boost in the polls and many dedicated boots on the ground.

The Bloomberg/Perot strategy is working to perfection.
