Richardson Camp Puts Out Baseball Card Lit, Forgetting His Own Baseball "Draft" Mess

Oh boy. Bill Richardson's campaign now has a new motif for their campaign literature in Iowa, distributing information about him in the format of baseball cards, complete with him at mound and ready to pitch.

The back of the card lists "positions played" — congressman, ambassador, secretary of energy, governor — and names his accomplishments as "wins."

This is all very cute, but there's one big problem: Richardson claimed for about 40 years that he had been drafted in 1966 to play for the Kansas City (now Oakland) A's — he had not — then retracting it in 2005 and saying it had been an honest mistake on his part.

Mark this card down as an "error."

I got a copy of the Richardson baseball card at an event where he was speaking recently. It is a pretty clever item.

As for the controversy on whether he had been drafted by the A's, it seems, judging by the link that the author provides, that it was a plausible error by Richardson. He did play college baseball and was scouted by major league teams. It is not mentioned on the card that he was drafted by any team.

At worst, this is something that most people do on their resumes-embellishing their record with exaggerated achievements. At least he actually did serve as governor of New Mexico and in all those other positions that are listed on the card. Pretty much of a non-story here.

By the way, I made it to the final stages of PGA Tour qualifying back in 1982.

Of course it's a complete non-story. TPM EC simply has to run any story it can find, no matter how tenuous, that they think might negatively affect Hillary's primary chances. Ignoring the facts of Richardson's actual accomplishments and debasing them down to a single misunderstanding is typical Hillary propaganda used to distract from her own utter lack of qualifications.

Er... Hillary's _OPPONENTS'_ primary chances.

Richardson seems especially gaffe-prone.

I completely agree with Yawn. This level of dissection of any candidate is absurd, perhaps next we'll find out Richardson had french toast for breakfast on a day he claimed to have had a bagel.

Richardson is the best candidate on either side, largely because he comes across as a human being, and he makes mistakes just like all of us. Unlike Hillary, he has the courage to admit it. If there is any justice, he will be the nominee, and he will win the presidency. If Democrats choose Hillary, they will lose, because they will deserve to.
