Republican Presidential Candidates Taking Pass On Another Event Before Black Audience?
It looks as if the Republican Presidential candidates are on the verge of taking a pass on yet another opportunity to speak before an African American audience.
The Huffington Post reports that the Congressional Black Caucus, which had earlier announced that it had scheduled a Republican Presidential debate on Fox News for November 4, has abruptly postponed the planned gathering.
The reason? None of the GOP candidates were willing to show up. A CBC spokesperson tells HuffPo that the candidates cited that oft-reached-for excuse: Scheduling conflicts. That's the same excuse that the top GOP candidates used to get out of attending PBS's planned debate with Tavis Smiley.
Is there any date that will work for the GOP candidates? Well, of the frontrunners only Mitt Romney's campaign would say that he's even considering going.

Even Alan Keyes?
Damn that low of the REPs . . .

The more things change, the more things stay the same in America. Both Democrats and Republicans take the African-American vote for granted; Republicans think they can't get it; Democrats believe they can count on it in perpetuity.

The Dems should smell blood and make this the 2008 version of Bush going to the African American churches in Ohio. Plaster their "mommy gave me a note excusing me from your debate" note all over campaign ads in Ohio and elsewhere. Make them pay for this at the polls.

the Rove strategy ignored blacks... (see Katrina, Michigan college aff action, etc) but they went after hispanics strongly.
they seemed to believe the hispanic vote was more important and also capable of swinging. it kinda did in 2004 when 44% voted Bush, but swung right back in 2006.

The Rove strategy doesn't just ignore blacks, it was and still is loaded with the Southern strategy of the GOP which is to speak in transparently coded sound bites that appeal to the white supremacist base of the thug party. The thug base knows that one of their thug candidates would be shoveling pure BS if they ever showed up at a black sponsored event. The racist thug candidates know that the best coded way to show what they think of black voters is to tell them to stuff their debates. Meanwhile DOJ is doing its best to tamp down the black vote nationwide. All in all a well thought out...as in deliberate...strategy.

I'm on record as strongly supporting all Republican efforts to shrink and further marginalize their party.
