Report: Talk Of Indictment Of Rudy's Man Bernie Kerik Is "Premature"
Legal sources are telling Newsweek that there not be an indictment of Rudy's man Bernie Kerik this month, after all.
"Kerik has agreed with prosecutors to extend the statute of limitations for investigating his 2000 tax return until Nov. 15, and he could agree to extend it further," the mag says, adding that Kerik's lawyer will meet with the Feds over next month. "The principal issue: does the evidence justify criminal tax charges, or could the case be resolved, like many other tax cases, with a civil settlement?"
Of course, the longer this drags out, the more likely it becomes that bad news will break when Rudy's campaign is in full swing. And lest this be forgotten, recall that this is the man Rudy recommended as his pick for chief of the Department of Homeland Security -- that is, as the man in charge of defending us from what Rudy calls the "Terrorists' War On Us."

I doubt Bush will allow it so Rudi's friend will be free til the election is over.

Prior to Rudy ill-fated attempt to get Kerik appointed Secretary of Homeland Security, Rudy got him sent to Iraq to help train Iraqi police forces. According to "Imperial Life in the Emerald City," Kerik did little more than have lunch in the Green Zone and watch TV. In retrospect, this gig was meant to burnish Kerik's "national security" credentials for appointment to higher office.
Kerik was Rudy's sycophant for years before and after 9/11 -- indeed, he later became Rudy's business partner in reaping profits as "terrorism experts." Rudy should be asked how he could put forth such a man as Homeland Security Security at every campaign appearance -- right after he's asked questions about his failure, after nearly eight years in office, to make sure the firefighters had radios that could communicate with police. If he had, many of the firefighters who perished on 9/11 might still be alive.
