Poll: McCain In Dead Heat With Dem Governor For 2010 Senate Race
A new Rasmussen poll finds that John McCain might be in danger in his home state of Arizona — danger, that is, of not being re-elected to the Senate in 2010. In a match-up with Democratic Governor Janet Napolitano, Napolitano has a nominal one-point lead over McCain with 46% to his 45%.
In match-ups with the leading Democratic presidential candidate, McCain still enjoys healthy leads over all of them — 52%-40% over Clinton, 50%-36% against Obama, and 53%-35% over Edwards — but his failure to top Napolitano in a Senate race should definitely be of some concern to him if he fails to win the Republican nomination for president.

Perhaps you should state explicitly that hose presidential numbers are or Arizona voters, not nationally.

Nice to hear. But please don't tell me we're starting the 2010 midterm campaign now. We've already got presidential primary campaigns beginning in earnest before the last midterm congress is sworn in. I'm still trying to come to grips with Iowa caucuses the first week in January (or December for that matter) and a national primary election in February.

True, the permanent campaign is destructive to civil discourse and good governance. On the other hand, it keeps me in steady employment.
Bring it on.

These poll numbers may seem impressive but it is tough to unseat an imcumbent senator and it would not really benefit Napolitano to go to the senate anyway.
If she is looking at a presidential or vice-presidential run, then starting that as a governor is a better starting point then from the Senate.
She is well respected for the job she has done as governor and there is also the risk that things could go downhill in Arizona and diminsh her reputation.
If she was elected to the Senate, it would put any higher ambitions on hold for awhile.
In short, I don't look for her to risk her prestige in a tough senate race against McCain.

Has Napolitano made any statement on running for Senate? I know there was some speculation from a PAC that was formed but I've not heard any report that she has spoken on it. Please catch me up.
