Poll: Ernie Fletcher Doomed To A Landslide Defeat
With only a week until Election Day in the Kentucky gubernatorial race, incumbent Republican Ernie Fletcher is way, way behind in the latest SurveyUSA poll — 60% for Democratic candidate Steve Beshear, and only 36% for Fletcher. It's usually bad news if an incumbent is below 50 points, but Fletcher is under 40 points.

If Fletcher is below 40% in the final vote total I will read that as an excellent barometer for the dems in the state in the next senatorial election. Mitch McConnel will want to get his resume in order!

I don't know if you can use this vote total as an accurate barometer of the anti-republican mood in Kentucky. Many members of Fletcher's administration were charged with felonies related to hiring cronies for state jobs. Fletcher pardoned everyone charged, and the Republican party in the state essentially abandoned him. Anne Northup (recently defeated Congresswoman) even tried to run against him in the primary, with official GOP backing I believe, but Fletcher won anyway.
Fletcher was doomed from the start in this election, so don't take it as a sign that the GOP will follow suit. They might, but this election isn't an accurate indicator.

Don't count your chickens. Remember, the GOP has lotsa dirty tricks up their sleeve. Hold up for a phony terrorism alert that requires that the votes can be counted in an undisclosed location under the watchful supervision of the Secretary of State who is also running to save his job.
