New Obama Ad: He Chose Social Change Over Money
A new Obama ad running in New Hampshire plays up the candidate's dedication to public service and social change, working as a community organizer in Chicago when he could have chosen to do something far more lucrative:
"It was inspiring, absolutely inspiring, to see someone as brilliant as Barack Obama, as successful, someone who could've written his ticket on Wall St.," observes Harvard Law professor Laurence Tribe, "take all of the talent and all of the learning, and decide to devote it to the community and making people's lives better."

Great ad.
Experience we can trust. Change we can believe in.

This should have been one of the first ads that Obama ran. It gives you a good sense of Obama, the person but I suspect most people's opinions of Obama are already formed. People really won't support a third year senator based on his judgment (really, it's hard to evaluate his judgment after three years in national politics).
He has such a great narrative, but the campaign chose to run with something else early on. Now they are getting back to what, IMO, is his strongest attribute. Changing themes this far into the campaign is a good indication that his campaign is in serious trouble.

gqmartinez,
Actually, as I recall a version of this ad was one of the first that Obama rolled out in Iowa.

"Most people" are not blog-reading and blog-commenting junkies like us who started paying serious attention last February. "Most people" really only start paying attention about a 89-90 days before the next election they're allowed to vote in.

DTM is right. This ran over the summer in Iowa. It does present a good narrative. But I guess it wasn't enough to capture the state.

Henry,
Of course, it is impossible for any strategy to capture a state at this point, since that won't happen until people actually start the process of voting. Rather, the standard goal at these earliest stages of ad campaigns is just to create a generally positive impression of the candidate.
