Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick Endorsing Obama

Governor Deval Patrick (D-MA), who served as assistant attorney general for civil rights during Bill Clinton's administration, is now supporting Barack Obama for president over Hillary Clinton.

The full benefits of Patrick's endorsement will depend on how many of his volunteers — who helped him immensely in his dark-horse candidacy last year — he will be able to recruit for volunteer work on Obama's behalf in New Hampshire.

In 2006, Patrick became only the second African-American to be elected governor of a state. The first such man, former Virginia Governor Doug Wilder, is also supporting Obama.

Dude, I'm pretty sure Patrick is a "(D)" not an "(R)."

Here's your cue, Hillary folks. It's time to diss the endorser, right?

Deval Patrick is a Democrat. Great endorsement for Senator Obama!

I just fixed the party identification. This is what I get for being up last night reading some history on 19th-century politics, when liberals and blacks were Republicans, and racist demagogues and other right-wingers were Democrats.

Governor Patrick is not a good governor and he's not that popular either. His approval rating is deadlocked 47%-47% in the latest SUSA poll and he's like Eliot Spitzer - he just can't stop making mistakes. He's actually a dangerous radical and I think Obama should distance himself from Patrick.

Steve is not even close to correct about Governor Patrick, clearly as he gets his news from USAToday. I'm not really sure what mistakes he made that he refers to but as a citizen I really haven't seen any. Perhaps he should not have told off the editors of the local papers but as every newspaper I read is just one giant hackarama I applaud him calling out the Boston Globe and the New York Times.

I'm sure Steve will refer to the drapes, the caddy and Ameriquest as "mistakes" and maybe they are but they don't disparage the myriad of thing he's done right. Honestly, he's the first politician, in Massachusetts, that I've seen begin an open dialog about this state's problems.

Most of our problems are imaginary such as our self-deluded moniker as Taxachusetts but no one wants to talk about the real issues and that a state's infrastructure, education, and health care systems are a burden to be shared equally. He recognized and stated we need to pay for these costs now and not foist them onto future generations for the sake of a couple of bucks in tax cuts.

The most astounding phrase is to call him a dangerous radical, phraseology used to describe Marx, Lenin, and Castro. Deval is a probusiness governor that wants everyone to pay their share. It is a sentiment that we should all agree with that every person and business must pay their fair share. And I for one applaud Governor Patrick for standing up and taking the hard but intellectually honest position rather than easy but dishonest "I'll cut your taxes" stance.

Steve = HRC backer?

Patrick is a fine governor. He made a few rookie mistakes early, but none of them amounted to anything real, just dumb media/communications stuff about the cost of his office curtains and his car. His resort casino plan is pretty popular.

Obama endorsed Patrick in the Mass. Dem primary, and those events were HUGE, so I would imagine Patrick's volunteers are already pretty strongly behind Obama, but adding even more of them to Obama's email list and getting them to head up to NH should be pretty helpful.

I've been kind of suspected for a while now that Eric is not exactly a morning person.
