Jindal Wins In Louisiana
Rep. Bobby Jindal (R-LA) was elected governor yesterday, taking about 54% of the vote and avoiding a runoff. Jindal previously ran for governor in 2003, but lost to Democrat Kathleen Blanco by a 52%-48% margin. Blanco was not running again this time.
Jindal is the first Indian-American elected governor of a U.S. state, and at age 36 will become the youngest current governor when he is sworn in.

And now comes Kentucky, even more likely to switch parties than was Louisiana.

Clearly, I missed something.
When did the Dems decide they were going to give up the Governor's race? What was the problem there? Was there someone they wanted to have run, who decided not to? A small amount of backstory would be useful for those of us who weren't following along.

it just goes to show you: if non-christians allow themselves to be "perfected", there's a place in the republican party for them.

The Dems didn't have a chance because Hurricane Katrina has change Louisiana's demographics, and Gov. Blanco was blamed for the response, even though it was a combination of many levels of gov't in the flooding of New Orleans.
Jindal probably couldn't do a better job after Katrina, and he has been an awful congressman, because he has spent most of the time raising money to run for governor, and has been ranked as one of the least influential congressman.

Echos of Califonia . . . Republican ran Federal Government combined, Bush/Cheney related business types combined with a Democratic Governor with less than exciting personality.

Also, the Dems wanted Breaux to run. He wouldn't consider it unless Blanco bowed out. She did. Then the legal opinion came down that Breaux was not eligible because he doesn't live in Louisiana anymore - or something.
I doubt it would have mattered.
Seriously, a lot of people think that the only way Louisiana is going to get any kind of real Federal help to rebuild is if there is a Republican in the Governor's office.
I voted for Boasso, knowing it hopeless.

What happened in LA is scary! Two major elections in a row, a Republican has won outright without even bothering with a run-off. the most disheartening thing is that the Republican is counting on a Democrat by the name of all but John Kennedy to switch party and take on Mary Landrieu. Mary is still regarded as the most endangered Democratic Senator. Mr. Clinton won LA twice. What has happened over there?
Another nightmare for Democrats is Georgia. Man, this state has converted from all Democrat to all republican almost over night. Remember this state actually voted for Clinton in his first bid for Presidency. How things have changed. A lot of lessons to be learned there!!!

I've never understood minorities who go and do the dirty work for the GOP as though some day they will be full members of the club. Don't these guys understand that they are nothing but flunkies who will never, ever be allowed in the club?

Yeah, like Clarence Thomas, Claude Allen, and Dinesh D'Souza.

Exactly -- or Condi, or Colin, or Gonzo, or Rodney Paige.
The GOP has nothing against minorities, as long as they are ideologically pure, and don't expect the government to help the disadvantaged or powerless.

He'll be a one-term wonder. Once they figure out it's not a good idea to elect Republican Kool-Aid drinkers to statewide office, he'll be a lame duck.

Precisely, Rick
Let's not forget JC Watts, who was the keynote speaker and then Tom DeLay would not support him. But he sure trotted him out in the spotlight to pander to the base as not being 'agaisnt minorities' the same way they used Ken Mehlman to pander to gays. While touting that 'compassionate' conservative line.
JCWatts was used well and he got what he deserved coming from a long line of Democrats his own people told him how stupid he was to buy into that 'compassionate' conservative...but DeLay had to hand him his ass in his hand before he understood. He resigned from Congress but still hasn't learned his lesson well cause he carries the GOP message on CNN at least 1-2X a week.

New Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal's POSITIONS ARE SCAREY! (At least California's Governator pretends to be liberal in some arenas like the environment.)
Please note these Jindal positions!
* Creationism to be taught alongside evolution.
* 100% anti-abortion with no exceptions for rape or life of the mother.
* Wants off-shore drilling: Would eliminate moratorium on off-shore drilling.
* Enthusiastic supporter of Bush's War in Iraq.
