DCCC Lands A Major Recruit In Illinois Race

House Democrats have landed a major recruiting prize in the open seat race to succeed retiring Republican Rep. Jerry Weller (R-IL): Illinois state Senate Majority Leader Debbie Halvorson (D).

National and local Democrats believe that Halvorson, whose base lies in the heart of the suburban Illinois district, will give the party its best shot to pick up the moderate district that Bush carried by a 53%-46% margin over John Kerry in 2004. Republicans will be hard-pressed to match Halvorson's profile, but they believe that state Sen. Christine Radogno (R), a moderate who lost a race for state Treasurer last year, is their strongest option to retain the district.

Democrats had other recruitment successes yesterday in the SC Senate race and in MN-06, so this is definitely great news for them.

Check out these latest House ratings.

I'm not so sure a state legislative leader is going to be an asset or a liability, given the disgraceful performance of the newly Dem-controlled state legislature and governorship. People around here are more than ready to throw these miserable failures back out on their asses. For the curious here's the a href="http://chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/news.pl?rssFeed=news&id=26573" latest round in a totally irresponsible battle.> With basic needs like public transportation and school funding being held hostage as Dem "leaders" joust for partisan position, I'm afraid the public disgust could even put Durbin's Senate reelection prospects up for grabs.

Oops. The link above is http://chicagobusiness.com/cgi-bin/news.pl?rssFeed=news&id=26573 .

My mistake. And of course you can't edit or preview in this prehistoric sorryass excuse for an interface.

The district is better than 2004 makes it sound. All 5 Democratic statewide candidates won the district last year, including the unpopular governor and the Dem in an open seat Treasurer's race featuring a Republican who represents part of the district and is the most talked-about potential Republican nominee

Having watched how the publican party has trashed the country very few people are going to vote for the Rethugs in any context.
